  2. 2. History St. Brendan’s is a Roman Catholic Church that is located in Los Angeles, Ca. Its Gothic Revival style structure was built in 1927. This church was not only used for mass but also in major movie production such as “ War of the Worlds.” This church was named after St. Brendan who wasknow for his voyages. He was a monk born is Tralee, Ireland.Saint Brendan is the patron of sailors and traveler.
  3. 3. Inside St. Brendan’sThis is the inside of the church. On the wall there is a crucifix which is common for aCatholic church. For Catholics this cross represents the burden of sins that Jesus Christcarried on his way to death. It signifies the pain and suffering that Christ have done forthem. The “INRI” are initials for the Latin title, “LesvsNazarenvs Rex Ivdaeorvm.” Thismeans “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” Pontius Pilate had given him this title.
  4. 4. Here are stainedglass window withthe images ofJesus and some ofhis disciples.Stained glasswindows are verycommon in Catholicchurches alwaysdepicting momentsof biblical history.This keepsmembers inmemory of whatChrist has done forthem.
  5. 5. This is where the scripture of the Bible isread, by either people of the church or bythe priest. All the members of the churchhave copies of the book that is read herealong the booths.
  6. 6. Places at thefoot of a statueare prayercandles. Thesecandles are lit bypeople whorequestedprayers for aparticularintention.Catholic’sbelieve that aslong as thecandle is lit theprayer continuesto be offered tothe saint and beheard by Christ.
  7. 7. This is an altar which is use for theoffering of the Eucharistic Sacrifice. Ifsignifies the table of the Lord. Here thepriest prays and breaks the bread anddrinks wine. Bread meaning the body ofChrist and the wine meaning the bloodof Christ.
  8. 8. Here is a structure with holy water in it. The water is considered to be holy because it is blessedby the priest. This is a reminder of baptism. When Catholic’s enter and leave the church theycome here and dip their fingers. With the dipped finger they make a sign of the cross along theirbody. Some Catholic believe this water to bring healing.
  9. 9. Outside of St. Brendan’s Here is a Statue of the Virgin Mary. The Virgin Mary has a very important place in Catholicism. To Catholics, the Virgin Mary is said to be the mother of God. She is what every Catholic women looks up to. She was the most devoted person to Jesus Christ. Many Catholics come here to pray to her because they think she’s the closet to God so therefore he will surely get their prayers. Being the central role in the Roman Catholic Church she has her own prayer that’s called the “Hail Mary Prayer” which Catholics prayer every day.
