4. What is SHM.
A motion in which acceleration is directly
proportional to the displacement and is
directed towards the mean position
a ∝ x
a ∝ -x
6. Horizontal Mass Spring
System
Let we consider a mass spring system.
One side of spring attached with hard rigid
body and other side with mass “ m ”.
7. Hook’s Law
Force that is applied to spring is directly
proportional to the displacement.
If the spring is un stretched, there is no net
force on the mass or the system is in
equilibrium.
If the mass is displaced from equilibrium,
the spring will exert a restoring force, which
is a force that tends to restore it to the
equilibrium position.
F = -kx
9. Simple Pendulum
Consider we have a string (Not Flexible)
with attached with a mass “ A “. And other
side with a hard rigid body.
When pulled to one side of its equilibrium
position A to the position B through a small
angle θ and released, it starts oscillating to
and fro over the small

11. Oscillation
OSCILLATION IS THE TO AND FRO MOTION
OF THE PENDULUM ABOUT A FIXED POINT.
THE BOB COMPLETES ONE OSCILLATION
WHEN IT SWINGS FROM ‘O’ TO ‘B’ THEN
TO ‘A’ AND RETURNS TO ‘O’.

12. Equilibrium Position: When the pendulum is
at rest ,it is said to be in equilibrium .The
position of the pendulum at rest
Amplitude: The maximum displacement of the
bob from the equilibrium position.
Time Period: The time taken for complete one
oscillation
Frequency: Frequency is the number of
oscillations per second
