3.1.1 Go back in time!
Student Book
   pp 78–81

On page 81 of the Student Book you will find some information about the Industrial
Revolution – a time that saw big changes in the way products were made and how people
                     lived.

Today you are going to consider what the processes of producing artefacts may have been
like before machines were invented. Your teacher will give you an everyday household
object. Look at it carefully and answer the questions below.

What materials do you think I think this object is made out of paper
                     this object is made from?

Do you think this object I think this object is made by hand and machinery.
was created by hand or by a
                     machine?

Now imagine you are designing an object to do the same job that this item does (e.g.
scissors = to cut paper) but without machinery to help you make it.

What materials would you make Newspapers, wires and glue
                     your object out of?

Would it look different from the Yes because its made from different materials.
object you have in front of you?

Would it operate differently? No because they’re both used manually.

How would you make this object I would make this object by hand using materials
without using machines? and equipment such as recycled paper, scissors,
                                                                                  glue and wire.
