Reception - role of receptors, when are the receptors cell membrane receptors and when are they intracellular? What is a ligand-gated ion channel? What is a ligand? What is a signalling molecule (or just signal molecule) (don't need to know G protein- coupled receptor) b. Transduction - what are relay molecules? What is a phosphorylation cascade? Relate to the "roleplaying" activity we did in class where each volunteer changed their "shape" as a result of "binding" to another (don't need to know the specific molecules involved in transduction, the 2nd messengers such as protein kinases and cAMP) c. Response - describe different types of cellular response, eg what is the role of transcription factors.
