Though there may have been published
material similar to a magazine in antiquity,
the magazine as it is now known began only
after the invention of printing press by

In 1731, an Englishman named Edward Cave
distributed a periodical called The
Gentleman's Magazine. He developed
"magazine" from the Arabic word makhazin,
which meant storage facility. Cave’s objective
was to make a magazine that the overall
population would be keen on. His distribution
contained everything from articles and
sonnets to stories and political insights.
