Couch-Potatoism
Couch–Potatoism health issues Imagine: A small kid is in class while their teacher explains the
instructions to their math test. As the teacher hands out the test the class begins to flip through the
test. Tap Tap Tap he is clicking his pencil against the grey table. While the bright students get to
work he looks to the side of him and he scans the girls test and begins to copy everything down on
his worksheet. He saw this on a TV show so he thinks it is okay. Kids that are younger will copy
whatever they think is cool. If they see a cool in a cartoon they will try to copy him thinking that
they can be him. Although TV can be educational, TV is more harmful because it steals time, causes
health issues, and displays inappropriate images.
TV is beneficial to raise intelligent children. Everyone can agree that TV can be profitable. Even
teachers use programs to inform and teach their students. In addition there are a plentiful supply of
TV shows of kids educational programs available. "Studies show that kids who watch educational
and non–violent children's shows do better on reading and math tests"(The Good and Bad Effects of
TV on Children 3) Additionally, experts agree, "some TV shows can educate, inform, and inspire.(3)
This highlights television may be able to educate or teach millennials more efficiently. Even adults
refer to invert videos to learn everything from grammar and making stronger sentences to riding a
bike. As an outcome, TV used with

Northwood's Farewell Speech
Good afternoon Northwood administrators, teachers, staff, family and most importantly
Northwood's Class of 2018. Before I begin, I would first like to thank Mrs. Friedman for that lovely
introduction. I would also like to thank Mrs. Carey, Mrs. Hollister and the entire Northwood staff
for giving me the opportunity to speak to you all today.
Believe it or not, five years ago I sat in those same seats you're in right now. It's funny seeing you all
today, so grown up compared to the little 3rd graders I remember you being back then. Just like you,
I was a young thirteen–year–old kid eager to graduate and excited to walk through those big high
school doors in September. I couldn't wait for my first day. I'd imagine myself making friends,
playing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coming from a great school such as Northwood, you will have a solid foundation and all the tools
necessary to succeed. Again, you have to make that decision to use those tools to help you.
Assignments will primarily be given to you with due dates. For example, my second week at Central
I walked into my English 1 class and we were given our first book. Coming from Northwood, I
assumed that we would be given a reading schedule along with the text but to my surprise we were
told to read the entire book by sometime the next month. Not to mention the papers, book reports
and projects that were all due in between that time. Again this was one class out of six I was taking
so you can imagine my facial expressions when I heard this. However, instead of letting my fear and
anxiety get the best of me I talked to my grandparents about my classes, got help from
teachers/tutors, and used the tools I had. If I didn't learn things previously that I should of for a
class, I made sure I gave maximum effort which always makes up for a lack of previous knowledge.
Long story short, I ended that year with a 4.07 GPA so again, I'm telling you, no matter how
challenging it may seem always give your maximum

Homework Is Too Much Homework
The debate regarding exactly how much homework is too much homework has been an ongoing
debate for years. As of right now, there seems to be no end in sight for this debate. Various adults
believe that if children do not obtain homework, then they are not learning properly. However,
numerous children are obtaining a substantial amount of homework per night, as well as per each
class. Once a child exceeds a certain amount of homework, then it is no longer beneficial for the
child's education. An excessive amount of homework can essentially become harmful to the child's
education. As a result, teachers are struggling with finding the right amount of homework to assign
to students. The National Education Association as well as the National Parent–Teacher Association
endorse the "10–minute rule" for teachers to follow when assigning homework to students. If a child
is assigned an excessive amount of homework, then the child might experience more harm than
good when attempting to complete the assigned homework. The National Education Association as
well as the National Parent–Teacher Association strongly advocate for the "10–minute rule" when it
comes to the amount of homework that a child should be assigned. The 10–minute rule is a
guideline for teachers when assigning homework to students. When following the 10–minute rule,
teachers should assign ten minutes of homework per grade level of the student for each night.
Therefore, first graders should obtain no more than ten

Persuasive Essay On Cyberbullying
Every day I go to school and meet my best friend at the front of the school. Today as I got off the
bus I walked straight to the front doors to meet her. Weirdly, today she was not there, I was
surprised. I just think "oh it is cold outside she is probably inside waiting for me, so I go inside. She
is not there and this point I am getting very curious. As I walk to the spot we always sit I look and
she is not there, I see her with the mean girls bullying a kid. When I see this I am so surprised that I
don't even think this is actually happening! As a kid that has been small all my life (So far), I HATE
bullying. I was bullied as a kid in 2nd grade because I had just joined the school and I was very

Those are some of the problems that start cyberbullying. The negative effects of cyberbullying are
that people get depressed and they get very sad, then they do not tell anyone that this is happening
because that don't want to get in trouble. There are other effects that are worse Such as committing
suicide and they do not tell anyone, receive poor grades, have low self–esteem, and miss, skip or
drop out of school. In conclusion, my problem of cyberbullying is a worldwide issue. The world
should care about it and try to help because every year more and more kids are committing suicide
because of bullying and cyberbullying. There are many ways to solve the worldwide problem of
cyberbullying. These ways to solve the problems of the teens and some kids that are cyberbullied or
cyberbullying other people. Sometimes cyberbullying gets so bad that the teens or kids that are
being cyber bullies commit suicide or get so depressed they drop out of school. One solution that I
came up with is: you can tell a teacher or a trusted adult if you or your friend is being cyberbullied,
if you don't want to tell a teacher or a trusted adult to their face then you can write a note and leave
it on the teacher's desk or leave it on your trusted adults doorstep or bed( only if it is your parents).
Another solution that I have to prevent cyberbullying is: to talk

The Movie ' The Night Dad '
The ideal family has a father and mother with children living in a home full of happiness. That may
be true in a movie but the reality is not every child has both of their parents. The number of
incarcerated parents has been rising for years now, so why have teachers brainwashed themselves
along with the students, that if you don't have a father and mother, it is not normal. In the story, The
Night Dad Went to Jail by Melissa Higgins, a young rabbit named Sketch, takes the reader through
his experiences that happen during and after his father is arrested. Higgins acknowledges that many
child are in the same position as Sketch and wants children do know there are books that relation to
them. Some parents may have an issue with a child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His life has changed with his father being away. The story of Sketch touches on many different
aspects of children going through struggles of having a parent or parents in prison. The story should
be allowed in library for children to read because there are hundreds of other children just like
Sketch.
Educators need to understand that not all children have both parents in their household. There are
large groups of kids who have parents in person. From The Night Dad Went to Jail, Higgins presents
a statistic that states, "One in every 43 kids in the United States has a mom or dad in prison. Sixty–
five percent of men in prison are dads and 75 percent of women in prison are moms". (Higgins).
Clearly, this shows there are more children with incarcerated parents then some people assume.
Since the 1980's, there's been a steady increase in the amount of people sent tor prison, and there is
not a sign of the number of prisoner decreasing. Making this a perfect opportunity to help those
children with parent in prison to understand there are other children going to same experience. An
easy way to start assisting those children is by having them read a story that is relatable to them and
make feel less isolated.
Having a connection with a book and having it be comparable to an event that a child id going
through can affect them tremendously.

Autism Communication Strategies
Strategies for Autism as a Communication Disorder There are many disorders that can effect a
child's learning process. Autism is just one of these common disorders that effects 1 in 68 children
(Balch). The American Psychiatric Association defines autism as, "a neurodevelopmental disorder
characterized by deficits in social communication and social interactions as well as restricted and
repetitive behaviors, interests, or activities (Balch, p. 429)." These deficits in social communication
greatly hinder the teaching–learning process within the classroom when successful strategies to help
these children are not being pursued. Autism effects the communication skills of the child, and there
are many effective strategies that can be implemented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can also be represented within the child's visual schedule to provide understanding for the child
("Strategies for Teachers"). A recess buddy allows for a child to have guaranteed social interaction
during any play time. It can be difficult for children with autism to make friends because they have a
hard time understanding social cues ("Your ATN@Work"). The recess buddy can also provide a safe
and comfortable environment for the child. Since this will be represented in the child's personal
visual schedule, the child will have an understanding of who they can spend their social time with.
The child's friend can give them comfort in any situation, and allow them to develop their social
skills. In order to provide a child the ability to communicate effectively with their peers during their
play time, assistive technology can be used. Picture Exchange Cards can be an effective way for
students with autism to use pictures of an object to show to others and communicate what they need.
Sentences can also eventually be formed with these cards, so the students can progress in learning
how to communicate effectively ("Autism"). The cost to implement Picture Exchange Cards ranges
from $19.99 to $69.99 for a full set of words (pecs

Some things that sound like more work than just going to school where you are supposed to. As
Greatschool says some parents create and teach their own curriculum, while others buy a

children. So, parents can make up anything and give it to their child, or buy a pack from from the
school so your child is learning the same thing everyone else is parents just now have to drop a few
hundred bucks, What I do not understand is that a parent who are most likely not a teacher or would
not qualify to teach are making up lesson plans and at the end of the signing off their child 's
diploma. This seems almost idiotic that the school system allows this, when the rest of America has

Cyberbullying
We use the internet to communicate with people worldwide. With the freedom of being able to send
anything, anytime, to anyone, this could result is a bad situation. Many people do not realize that
things online stay forever. Sending one text to the wrong person triggers a misunderstanding.
Expressing any hurtful feelings towards someone by online usage could result is a bad ending for
the receiver if not resolved quickly. Cyberbullying affects everyone who is involved, and many
things can be done to help stop cyberbullying.
Many ways exist that can help prevent cyberbullying. Young people who are involved is
cyberbullying and need help to stop it, can always talk to their parents. The important way that a
parent could help their child with cyberbullying is to discuss what it is. "Cyberbullying refers to
internet bullying, an act of bullying through electronic devices such as smartphones and computers"
(Lacko). What this means is cyberbullying occurs online. Parents need to monitor their child's usage
online. "Putting password protection on the computer, so that you have to log your kid on when they
want to use the internet" (DiMaria). Putting passwords on computers that their kids use could help a
parent see what is going on. Parents should try hard to have a bond with their own kids. "Make sure
your child knows that he or she can come to you if there is a problem online" ("Cyber Bullying &
Other Social"). Kids should not be afraid to tell parents about anything, especially cyberbullying. If
a child is going through hard time, talk with them. It is important to have daily conversations with
your child. Parents also can prevent cyberbullying by figuring out the response together with their
child. There can be ways to figure out a respond to the bully. "It is important to equip your child
with the tools they need to know how to respond to bullies" (Jordan). Sometimes it is hard to find
the right respond, but you should try your best, or better yet don't respond. Not only can parent help
prevent cyberbullying, schools can too.
During school days, kids can be mistreated in person, and then after school it could continue online.
The teachers may see their kids skipping a lot of school days. They may

On Life After Death Essay
Bereavement is an issue that affects families all across the world. It is often hard for parents and
families to comfort bereaved children as they are grieving too. Grieving parents many times ''feel
like they are losing their minds" (Dickens). But if parents are actively involved in helping their
child's healing process then children can learn coping flexibility and resilience and can deal with
their grief in healthy ways. However numerous parents are "too emotionally wrought to comprehend
the grief of their remaining children (Dickens). They, as well as other family members, experience

Kubler–Ross. This book is a collection of inspirational essays about more than 20,000 people who
had near–death experiences, and report the afterlife as a return to wholeness of spirit. This book may
be particularly good for families with a religious background who may want to know where their
deceased loved ones are. Another book which may work for both religious and non–religious
families is A New Normal: Learning to live with grief and loss by Darlene Cross. This book focuses
on the healing processes and how to deal with loss in all forms. It gives clear instructions for life
after loss and how to have hope and move forward in a healthy way. For adolescences experiencing

Why School Violence Have Such Of An Effect On Our Society...
Speech 131– T/TH 7:30 am Section 33282
Courtney Mathis ID # 2899247
Why does school violence have such of an effect on our society today? School violence is the
intentional use of physical force or power, group or community, with the behavior likely to cause
physical or psychological harm. Most school violence start from differences between teenagers.
Like for instance about some weeks ago this girl named Amy Joyner died over this boy. The girls
that jumped her was mad that she was dating one of the girl's ex boyfriends. It was not her fault that
the boy had no more interest in them and wanted to try something new. For the careless actions
upon the situation caused one girl to die and 3 charged with attempted murder in the second degree.
School violence is just a cry for help in need of attention because of the home training they are
lacking at home. I am arguing today we look past our differences and actually communicate and
come to some sort of agreement. Let your understanding speak louder than your misconceptions.
We as people have to own up to our mistakes and not make every little thing an issue that causes
another's life at jeopardy. In the article school violence by Jaana Juvonen she states that "Bullying
and more serious violent behavior are not separate problems. Childhood bullying predicts person–
oriented crime in young adulthood." How do you feel when you lose another loved one due to
violence? What if you try to make a change, but it has gotten so worse

this has happened which resulted in him going to the office countless times."Jonathan, all you have
to do is read the article and answer the questions. What is so difficult about that?" Jonathan then

Qualities of a Good Teacher
Qualities of a good teacher Teaching is a difficult occupation. Teachers play an important part in
training children, teenagers... So, a good teacher must have some special qualities. They are:
knowledge, creation, confidence, empathy, sense of humor and passion. Imagine you are dreaming
being a teacher, you must accept that there are no doubt that knowledge is the first quality of a good
teacher. A good teacher need to enlarge his/her general knowledge on culture, society, biology,

However, a good teacher need to believe that he/she can solve those problems. A teacher is a
window through which many young people will see their future, so he/she has to be a fine role
model. He/she need to show his/her confidence with the future, thereby teacher can teach student
how to believe in themselves. Empathy is the third quality. A teacher must have the ability to bond
with the students, to understand and resonate with their feelings and emotions. He/she need to put
his/herself in students' situation to understand and solve students' problem. A good teacher must
know that the aggression, negative attitudes that he/she can see in some students have a root cause.
He/she know that they are really scared young people who have come through some bed
experiences in life. This will keep a teacher calm and have control. If a teacher can do this, he/she
will gain more than love from his/her students. As we know, sense of humor is a key to surviving as
a teacher. A teacher who is humorous and funny can reduces barriers and lighten the atmosphere
especially during heavy period. By telling funny stories, joking with the students, a teacher can
makes class more enjoyable and makes students pay attention to the lessons. An ability to make

The Teen Drug Abuse
The teen drug abuse is extremely bad now a days because that's all what mostly all teens wan and
they can never stop because they use it to their advantage and they convince their friends and other
people to do it with them. The feelings that are associated with using drugs are relief, silliness,
euphoria, and happiness. After all those good feelings they have side effects after that and those are
headaches, drowsiness, nausea, dehydration, exhaustion, and fever. They can even have side effects
like vomiting and a little bit of loss memory. But when you abuse drugs and by that means that
when you use drugs to many times and too much it can lead to death. The ways you can die from
drugs are overdoses, traffic accidents and that's if and when you use it when driving, crime related
activity or other causes. These side effects and death and long– term consequences.
The first topic I'm going to talk about is marijuana and that drug is actually bad for your brain cells
and this drug is a derived flower of the cannabis plant and the ways it is consumed is the dried
cannabis plant, the hashish is made from the resin of the cannabis, and hash oil and it is a think oil
extracted from hashish. You can have memory loss and etc. When you use marijuana and you are
also in a sport like soccer, football, etc. and you are doing drugs your physical dependence will be

Persuasive Essay On Sexual Education
Let's teach our kids about sex
"Does sex education encourage sex? Many parents are afraid that talking about sex with their
teenagers will be taken as permission for the teen to have sex. Nothing could be further from the
truth. If anything, the more children learn about sexuality from talking with their parents and
teachers and reading accurate books, the less they feel compelled to find out for themselves" (Spock
62).
I will argue teaching sexual education once a child starts kindergarten will have the most effect on
their life. I strongly agree it will lower teen pregnancy, teach kids that sex is a desire, and it's okay
be curious. With discussing sex earlier on, it would help them realize to take it more serious, less
kids would regret having sex before meeting the right person, and it would teach them relationship
advice. Even though adults don't think it's right for kids to be taught because starting in
kindergarten, their too young and might think it's us telling them to have sex. The purpose of my
argument is to show parents sex causes curiosity into children's minds and they need to be taught the
right way from the wrong way and don't need to be bashed for having curiosity about sex.
Why is teen pregnancy becoming another topic individuals don't talk about? More and more teens
everyday are popping out babies left and right. In the United States teens have the most pregnancy
and STD's. Many advisors, and adults in the United States feel as if the problem can't be

Ethics And Moral Analysis
Introduction
Everyone's views of ethics and morals are different because we all have experience different things
in life that have contributed to the way we view things ethically acceptable. Throughout my 21 years
on this earth my views on ethics and morals have change. I think that ethics and morals are taught to
us by the people we surround ourselves with and the environment that we are in. For example, the
behaviors that I experienced in public school on the regular basis, would seem bazar to the people in
the North Hills school district, where I transferred to in my junior year of high school. In public
school people would roam the halls, talk over teachers, and do a whole lot of other things that aren't
normal in a high school setting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In college people value their education, respecting others, communication, and other things that
rational people value. I learn a lot about ethics just from being in the college environment and also
from a lot of my course material. I actually took a business ethics class last year that focused on
ethics and I spent a whole semester talking about the subject. In the class, we learned about how
your environment can affect your ethics and values. I also learned this in my psychology life span
class, which was about studying humans and how they evolve over a life time. In this class we learn
about how your parents can have an effect on your ethics; but, they only can teach you so much.
People learn more from experience than they learn from their parents. We also learn how your
perspectives of life change through different stages of your life. For example, when you are young,
you value the opinion of your parents more than anything. In your early grade school years you try
your best to make your parents proud. At a young age parents have control of persuading their
children to act in a way that is ethically correct. If a parent encourages their child to be respectful to
others the child will try their best to follow their wishes. If a parent encourages their child to curse
and hit people as an adolescent the child will think that type of behavior is acceptable. This is

Failing Students In Texas
Prompt: How are schools failing students in Texas?
Schools in Texas suffer a large amount of dropouts, some believe the students are to blame and other
believe it is the teacher's/school. However, schools are not the reason for students failing out
because teachers would much rather support and help their students rather than fail them. There are
multiple reasons why students are failing due to where they stand in society, how they are socialized
throughout their lives, and the social forces that influence their decisions as students.
According to the "Social Forces" note sheet, social forces are the most influential aspect of society
and they are big part of everyone's everyday life The many social forces can all come into play

The socialization review guide states that self–concept is based on our idea of others judgement and
is a big part of who we are. Teacher want to see their students graduate rather than failing. Being a
senior in high school, teachers are very supportive and are always open to helping their students
because teachers want to see their students be successful. However, that can negatively affect a
student's self–concept. Although the teacher is helping the student, the extra attention given in class
could result in peer judgement which impacts the student's self–concept. Peers jump to conclusions
thinking that student is "stupid" because they are asking for helping or staying after class. Which
can be beneficial but shortly after the student begins to believe that they are "stupid" and peers
lower the student's self–esteem, and it starts to affect their school work negatively. Maybe being that
the students stops asking questions, falls behind, and fails or the students discontinues showing up
to class to avoid peers bullying or name calling. Also, in the twins reading it shows a lot of
examples on how and why children turn out the way they do based on nature vs. nurture. Oskar
grew up with a very religious mother that went to catholic church regularly. Which influences
Oskars decision to follow that religious value. Parents of children that do not graduate from high
school increase the likeness of their children not graduating either because children look up to their
parents and share the same

someone to more extreme drugs such as heroin, meth, and other harmful drugs (Myers 23–24).
Gateway drugs lead more people to use and abuse the drugs they find to cope with the life they have
now or maybe in the future. Substance abuse has negative effect on young teens and adults in the
real world socially,physically, and emotionally.
The first effect is the social effect this is more harmful than physical and emotional put together
("Social Effects of an Addiction"). Social effects can cause depression this can cause more effect
like suicidal thought. Drug abuse can also lead to crimes like stealing, underage drinking, and
underage buying (Myers 47). Leading to crimes are bad enough but getting caught up with trouble
can ruin your life ,you can be sent to jail for wanting to get high. Adding to this is that dropout drug
users are much more likely to be involved with violent criminal activity.(Ojeda 24). Young teens are
suffering from addiction in school this can cause teens to start failing or stop concentrating and
learning you can not study while high or out of reality ("Substance Abuse"),(Myers 13). Teen will

People Who Influence Learning The Most Essay
The People in a Child's Life who Influence Learning the Most The human brain is most vulnerable
to change throughout the early years of a person's life due to its development. The people that enter
a child's life can alter their attitude and their effort later on. Most importantly, the skills that they are
taught can stick with them until the day they die. Most people in a child's life affect them in some
miniscule way and although children never realize it, some people are more crucial to their success
than others. Children engage in relationships with their parents, their peers and friends, their
teachers, and they take part in their community. Different factors within these relationships can
affect how they learn and perform as students. Students encounter many influential people through
their childhood that affect their learning abilities and characteristics, but parents are statistically
proven to have the most impact on learning by assisting their children with their schoolwork and
holding them to a standard that other people abandon. Parents Clearly, parents spend the most time
around their children, which means they can have the biggest, beneficial impact or a bad impact.
Parents have the option of being very helpful throughout their child's school years or they can
neglect them and let them figure life out on their own. Parents are the child's first teachers.
Supportive parents help their children with homework every night, putting in as much effort as
possible.

Bullying And Teasing
Bullying and Teasing: No Laughing Matter
Unfortunately, teasing is often part of growing up almost every child experiences it. But it isn't
always as innocuous as it seems. Words can cause pain. Teasing becomes bullying when it is
repetitive or when there is a conscious intent to hurt another child. It can be verbal bullying (making
threats, name–calling), psychological bullying (excluding children, spreading rumors), or physical
bullying (hitting, pushing, taking a child's possessions).
How Bullying Starts
Bullying behavior is prevalent throughout the world and it cuts across socio–economic,
racial/ethnic, and cultural lines. Researchers estimate that 20 to 30 percent of school–age children
are involved in bullying incidents, as either perpetrators or victims. Bullying can begin as early as
preschool and intensify during transitional stages, such as starting school in 1st grade or going into
middle school.
Victims of bullying are often shy and tend to be physically weaker than their peers. They may also
have low self–esteem and poor social skills, which makes it hard for them to stand up for
themselves. Bullies consider these children safe targets because they usually don't retaliate.
Effects of Bullying
If your child is the victim of bullying, he may suffer physically and emotionally, and his schoolwork
will likely show it. Grades drop because, instead of listening to the teacher, kids are wondering what
they did wrong and whether anyone will sit with them at lunch. If

Freshman Year Research Paper
Freshman year can be described as the worst year of high school. The effects of puberty have sunk
in, for better or worse. Young fourteen or fifteen year old is still trying to figure out who he or she is
, and who they want to be. Middle school is over and the transition into a world of independence has
begun. A whole new world is emerging and surviving jurassic change is hard to do. Three ways to
survive the dreaded freshman year include discovering the right group of friends who support your
character, managing your studies, and valuing relationships with teachers and parents. Finding the
right group of friends is key in every aspect of life . A comfortable friend group gives you

Going into freshman year the realization that grades do matter and are important for your future is a
very nerve racking thought. Unlike in middle school, high school requires an abundance of time
management and self discipline. Knowing when you need to stay home and study and when it is
okay to go out to dinner with friends is something that is needed for success. One thing to remember
is trying your hardest always pays off in the end. It might be hard to see at times. For example one
time I studied for three hours in order to do well on a history test and I failed miserably. My hard
work felt like it was all for nothing but when the next year of History rolled around we began
studying the same topic as we did on the test I had previously failed. I ended up remembering the
section so well I aced the test. Even if at points it feels like all your studying was for nothing, it
shows when you try your hardest in every aspect of

Persuasive Essay On Anti Bullying
Anti–Bullying
Bullying has become a very hot topic in schools and on social media. There is a chant kids say
"sticks and stones my break my bones, but words will never hurt me." This is totally false. In truth,
words can kill. Bullying is a fact of modern society; it can cause psychological effects and in most
cases result in self–harm. I believe preventative measures to reduce bullying in schools and social
media should be taken. About twenty–eight percent of student's ages 12–18 reported being bullied at
school during the school year according to the Indicators of School Crime and Safety report, by the
Bureau of Justice statistics. Across thirty–nine states survey, 7.2 percent of students admit to not
attending school because they do not feel safe. The importance of bullying can't be undermined.
Teachers and parents must understand the importance of looking and listening for signs and
behaviors of bullying. This will help tackle the issue before it gets serious and someone gets hurt. To
successfully prevent bullying you must be able to spot it. Parents and teachers need to watch for
instances of bullying. A person who is isolating themselves from a group doesn't necessarily
categorize a person as a loner. That could be a sign that they are being bullied. Just by noticing those
warning signs and intervening can help the situation and possibly allow the person being bullied to
find comfort in confining you. What is a bully? A bully is a person who uses strength or power to
harm or intimidate those who are weaker. There are many types of bullying. There is verbal bullying
when someone is saying or writing mean things. Verbal bullying includes teasing, name–calling,
inappropriate sexual comments, and threatening to cause self harm. Another form of bullying is
social bullying. It involves hurting someone's reputation or relationship. Social bullying includes
spreading rumors about someone, telling other children not to be friends with someone, and
embarrassing someone in public. Then there is physical bullying which involves hurting a person's
body or possessions. Which includes hitting or kicking, tripping, taking or breaking someone's
things. Bullying can occur during or after school hours.

Causes Of Students Dropping Out Of High School Across The...

Student Drop Out There are many numerous causes of students dropping out of high school across
the country. However, there are three causes that are most prevalent in students across the globe.
One cause is having a lack of parental involvement and participation in a child's life. The
atmosphere in homes and neighborhood play a role in kids dropping out of school. Teacher
qualification in teaching is a third reason. High School dropout rates have declined a significant
amount since 2000 (Fry 1). Only seven percent of students drop out annually compared to the 12
percent that dropped in 2000 (Fry 2). Substantially fewer Hispanic has driven the decline in the
national dropout rate, in part, and black youth dropping out of school (Fry 2) Students dropping out
of high school are a very serious topic to talk about and have to be taken extremely serious.
One of the biggest factors that young adults drop out of high school today is because of teachers and
the way they teach their class. Teachers do not consistently hold teens to high enough standards, and
sometimes give up on teens too early. The reason teachers are blamed is the enormous amount of
time they spend on one topic in school and students find it boring. How can they stay interested and
do well at a topic if they cannot relate or have fun with the subject or teacher? To prevent high
school dropouts we should make school interesting and more fun to

Social Media Stereotypes
You probably wake up in the morning, eat breakfast, get ready for the day, and then grab your phone
to check your Snapchat, Facebook, or other forms of social media. Social media is taking over the
world. More and more teenagers are getting a social media account. They are getting in trouble in
school, putting themselves into a bubble, and bullying others. This is what social media's overall bad
stereotype is. What if on the flip side it was not that but something better? Yes, teenagers do get in
trouble at school, but they do not do it as much as the society seems to think. Teenagers need to
follow the rules, that makes absolute sense, but the society is putting a bad label on the heads of
teenagers. Teenagers using social media in our world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Even then the parents tend to still be an influence in their child's life well into their adult years.
Parents are especially influential around the infant and childhood stages in a person's life. Judith
Harris, the author of The Nurture Assumption, wrote, "There is no question that the adult caregivers
play an important role in the baby 's life. It is from these older people that babies learn their first
language, have their first experiences in forming and maintaining relationships, and get their first
lessons in following rules." As Harris is saying, parents are very influential in the development of a
child because that is who the baby learns everything from. A child will pick up the habits and traits
that the parents have because that is who the child is looking up to as a role model. One example of
the passing along of habits is the fact that children of alcoholics are about four times more likely
than the general population to develop alcohol problems. This is a parent passing along what they do
onto their children. Although many factors can determine the likelihood of someone becoming an
addict, inherited and environmental factors are the big two. The parents have a lot of pressure on
them with the child watching their every move and learning from everything they do. As a child
grows into his or her teenage years, they begin to be affected by not only the same factors in their
childhood but also many new factors they are introduced to. A huge influencer of a

Should The School System Be Banned?
Alarm bells, lunch pails, and everything else innocent, has been tainted by the presence of narcotics
travailing throughout the school yards, lunch halls, and after school events. Questions and
intentional ignorance seems to remain as the children are kissed goodbye and sent off to face a
world that we, as adults, have no current knowledge of.
Unfortunately, our lack of knowledge, where the school systems are concerned, seems to leave to
much room to chance. Too many open areas for the snakes to slither in and consume the lives of our
children, siblings, friends and more. Even the teachers appear to be easily swayed.
What is this that slithers its way into our school houses and universities? Drugs! And when there are
mind altering substances, there are also people who build unbreakable connections to them.
Something that cannot be avoided, something that cannot seem to even be contained, drugs have a
way of coming into lives and destroying them without regret.
So what are the school systems facing today? A slight breakdown of statistical information may
demonstrate the recurring existence of something that everyone would rather pretend didn't exist.

Example Of Verbal Bullying
1) Bullying is aggressive behaviour that generally occurs among school children. It is a repeated
behaviour, sometimes repeated over time. (StopBullying, n.d.) Bullying is the misuse of power by a
group of people or an individual towards another person. Bullying can be physical, verbal or
emotional.
2) Physical Bullying:
Physical bullying is a form of bullying where the bully uses physical strength to hurt his/her victim
intentionally. Boys usually use this form of bullying. A real life example: A boy was bullied by
another boy who attacked him many times and threatened him. He almost asphyxiated him once.
However, his friends helped him and now he is not bullied anymore. (Seppe, n.d.)
Verbal Bullying:
Verbal bullying is a form of bullying where the bully uses mean words over and over again until you

Drugs Control Lives
Drugs Control Lives The long lasting effects on drugs can be destructive. Once you've become
hooked on drugs they can make you do things you never thought would happen. It always starts out
just wanting to try it to see what it does to you, but usually once you've started it becomes a habit. A
habit that you start having no control over, and before you know it you've lost everything that was
important to you. People I know have become victims to drugs and it is sad to see the outcome from
choosing drugs to rule your life. Because of drug use, people hurt their family emotionally and
financially, start stealing or committing crimes to provide for their habit, and it can also negatively

Parents that use drugs usually fight and argue in front of their children and are generally abusive.
This could lead to their child being a bully at school or constantly trying to start fights and talk back
to their teachers. Children that grow up around drugs are more likely to try drugs at a young age.
This could lead to them taking the drugs to school and trying to give or sell them to friends. I've
heard a lot about youngers kids going to whitfield county schools that have brought drugs to school
and ended up getting caught. These kids end up being expelled from school or being sent to a
juvenile correctional facility. Kids that grow up this way end up being the same as their parents,
because that's all they have known their whole lives. Choosing to let drugs control your everyday
life can completely destroy you. Not only will it hurt you, but also your family and friends who truly
care about you. It will make you lose your job, your friends, your family, and everything that you

Jerry Tello Analysis
The presentation that Jerry Tello gave was like none I've been to before. It was very entertaining and

how more and more children don't know, agree with or understand what's wrong. He described how
one day when he was a little boy he sighed and turned his back on his mother when she was asking

Your job is to provide, teach and support your children. More specifically, to teach them how to be
able to function in the world. This means teaching them how to behave respectfully to others, not
just you. If you're not a single parent home or if you have help from others it is especially important
for you guys to be on the same page on how to teach what you need to and how discipline works
into the situation because if not, more than likely the first thing the child or children will do is try to
pin you guys against each other (I say this because that is what me and my siblings tried to do...it
only worked once). It's good to catch disrespectful behavior early if possible. If your child is rude or
disrespectful, it's not good to turn a blind eye. Giving consequences when children are younger will
pay off in the long run. It may sound old fashioned, but I find that it's very important to teach your
child basic manners like saying "please", "may I" and "thank you." If you think about it, when your
child deals with their teachers, others outside the household or even gets their first job these
common manners will really go a long way and using manners is also a form of empathy. It also
teaches your children to respect others and acknowledge their impact on other people. As a parent

The Importance Of Recess In School
Think about it, when was the last time you asked a kindergartener what their favorite subject in
school is and they didn't answer recess? With increased standardized testing and rigid federal and
state requirements, most elementary students are now spending more time in the classroom than
outside playing. Most schools seem to think that recess is unimportant or a waste of time that is not
needed in a child's education. This is a very untrue statement, in fact recess is not only good for our
health but it has also had positive effects on childrens' everyday learning. Around the United States

They couldn't think of time where they couldn't go out and play on the blacktop or swing on the

the day, they are actually decreasing the quality of work by taking away recess. Most school
officials are unaware of the importance of recess. Though the effects of recces on kindergarteners

relevant whether its during testing or just paying attention during class. Teachers may notice the
difference but they may not know the causes of this lack of focus. Speaking in support of more

The Effects Of Divorce On Children 's Development
Family is an important structure within society. The word family may be defined in various ways:
you may define it as a group of close friends who you genuinely care for and trust, or as a group of
people who are related by the blood which runs through their veins. In this country, we see all types
of families. The traditional nuclear family consists of – a father, mother, and children. However,
currently this is not always the case. Divorce rates have risen over the years, breaking the nuclear
family; unfortunately, this event can affect children's development. Gary Peterson and Kevin Bush
mention the conclusion of – children benefiting from two–parent families rather than single–parent
families (499). This can be proven when we notice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They tend to internalize and sometimes externalize their feelings. Some common immediate
reactions are: fear, anger, sadness, fear of abandonment, denial, and imaging reconciliation between
parents (Mcwhorter 12). An example of this can be found on the first page of the article 'Preparation
and a Gift Help the Transition,' when it states "Children often misinterpret and blame themselves for
stressful situations." Divorce can be a very stressful meanwhile young children tend to blame
themselves for the whole situation; most of them believe that it's their fault that their parents were
fighting. Of course, this is not true in many divorce cases, yet it is commonly seen because they try
to find someone to blame. This can be a way of coping with the idea of their parents divorce. We
can study the short terms effects divorce has better when we observe younger children. This term,
younger children, can be broken down into two different categories: preschool age, toddlers, and

Socialization Of Homeschool
Parents have the right to choose the path for their child education. They should take the time to
consider the long–term effect it could have on their child. Home schooled children could be missing
out on valuable lessons in life and the opportunity to participate in school activities and sporting
events. Socialization plays an important part of a child's growth and understanding of the real world.
Children must learn to respect people in authority outside of the home setting. Just anyone can not
teach education; there should be some guidelines for homeschool just as there are for public schools.
There are many memories made from public or private school settings. As one smart person once
stated, "If there were no schools to take the children away from home part of the time, the insane
asylums would be filled with mothers." (Howe). Children and parents need separation periods to
develop and understand different people 's perceptive.
Socialization is an important development tool. Every interaction your child has helped him learn
language skills, ways to cope with emotions and how to work within social norms. Once your child
is in school, teachers and peers start to be a major part of socialization, which impacts development
by helping your child feel competent. During early school years, a teacher provides structure and
discipline in a child's day. Homeschool children may not have a structured schedule due to what
may be going on at home. Maybe due to a sibling or

Homework Controversy
Is homework helpful or harmful?
The homework controversy has been going on for a quiet a long time with no end in sight.
Homework is defined as an out of class task assigned to the students to help with practice or prepare
for the future. Homework has been around a long period of time. It has set and traced as a tradition
of having teachers assigning work and students completing it. Parents say that teachers require it
and teachers say's that parents demand to help their kids to finish it. Teachers assign homework to
help some students improve their grade, pass course, re–learn the subject you learn in the class, and
pass the course for those of who do not do well on tests and exams. Can homework be considered
helpful or harmful? This interrogation turns into an argument or debate between two reasonable
subjects. Especially for the student's athletes or any students who enjoys after school activities,
homework hurts probably the most. The assignments take away time, which could be spent on doing
more productive actions or spend time with your family or may cause unnecessary stress.
Parents, educators, students and indeed general public have all deeply divided over the homework
issues for a while. When a student's falls asleep in class, he or she is unusually is disciplined for it.
"The parents of the younger K–12 students are revolting against the reportedly increasing amounts
of homework assigned their children (David)". The parents are not happy about their kids to do

How Homeschooling Should Be Banned
Resolve that homeschooling should be banned. Imagine, you are a parent and you want the best
education for your child. Which do you choose, a public school, or homeschooling? The answer is
blatantly obvious, and I'm here to tell you why. Firstly, you have to work to provide for
YOURSELF, let alone a FAMILY. It takes $10.20 per hour to provide for yourself, now let 's take
that times the average family size. On average, a family has 2 parents and 2.5 children, so 4.5
people. So let 's multiply that by the needed hourly wage. This gets us $45.90 an hour, which is a
HUGE underestimate, (which means no extra luxuries, like having your children in sports) but we
should just go with this number for simplicity. $45.90 an hour isn't a devastating number, as long as
you have 2 working parents. But with homeschooling one parent will have to take off A LOT of
work to off educate their children. So let 's assume that you have 1.4 working parents with the
average hourly wage (so one full time working parent and one that has to take off SIX TENTHS of
their jobs) , and keep in mind this is generous for my opponent 's side of the argument. This will
give us, wait for it... only 23.39! This isn't even close to provide for a family, in fact that's only
enough to provide for the parents!
And yes, I do realize that this won 't be a problem to all families. Some will be able to afford this
with ease. Also this isn 't a reason it should be banned, but rather a hindrance to a majority of
families.

If a teacher, parent, lawmaker, and even the child them self– put more effort into educating yourself
about cyber bullying it will not be in this situation.
Statistics have shown that everyone can be victims of cyberbullying but most incident occur
between the age of 11 to 15 years old, however, some report showed that children's as young as 10
years old also been a victim of cyberbullying. Cyberbullying can have long lasting effects on its '
victims that can lead to mental health issues like depression, anxiety, stress, and even suicide.
Increasing number of young kids and teenagers committing suicide because of cyber bullying and
sexting have coming to the public 's attention. As reported by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC), suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people with
approximately 4,400 deaths every year. The CDC estimates that there are at least 100 suicide

Couch-Potatoism

  • 1. Couch-Potatoism Couch–Potatoism health issues Imagine: A small kid is in class while their teacher explains the instructions to their math test. As the teacher hands out the test the class begins to flip through the test. Tap Tap Tap he is clicking his pencil against the grey table. While the bright students get to work he looks to the side of him and he scans the girls test and begins to copy everything down on his worksheet. He saw this on a TV show so he thinks it is okay. Kids that are younger will copy whatever they think is cool. If they see a cool in a cartoon they will try to copy him thinking that they can be him. Although TV can be educational, TV is more harmful because it steals time, causes health issues, and displays inappropriate images. TV is beneficial to raise intelligent children. Everyone can agree that TV can be profitable. Even teachers use programs to inform and teach their students. In addition there are a plentiful supply of TV shows of kids educational programs available. "Studies show that kids who watch educational and non–violent children's shows do better on reading and math tests"(The Good and Bad Effects of TV on Children 3) Additionally, experts agree, "some TV shows can educate, inform, and inspire.(3) This highlights television may be able to educate or teach millennials more efficiently. • 2. Northwood's Farewell Speech Good afternoon Northwood administrators, teachers, staff, family and most importantly Northwood's Class of 2018. Before I begin, I would first like to thank Mrs. Friedman for that lovely introduction. I would also like to thank Mrs. Carey, Mrs. Hollister and the entire Northwood staff for giving me the opportunity to speak to you all today. Believe it or not, five years ago I sat in those same seats you're in right now. It's funny seeing you all today, so grown up compared to the little 3rd graders I remember you being back then. Just like you, I was a young thirteen–year–old kid eager to graduate and excited to walk through those big high school doors in September. I couldn't wait for my first day. I'd imagine myself making friends, playing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Coming from a great school such as Northwood, you will have a solid foundation and all the tools necessary to succeed. Again, you have to make that decision to use those tools to help you. Assignments will primarily be given to you with due dates. For example, my second week at Central I walked into my English 1 class and we were given our first book. Coming from Northwood, I assumed that we would be given a reading schedule along with the text but to my surprise we were told to read the entire book by sometime the next month. Not to mention the papers, book reports and projects that were all due in between that time. Again this was one class out of six I was taking so you can imagine my facial expressions when I heard this. However, instead of letting my fear and anxiety get the best of me I talked to my grandparents about my classes, got help from teachers/tutors, and used the tools I had. If I didn't learn things previously that I should of for a class, I made sure I gave maximum effort which always makes up for a lack of previous knowledge. Long story short, I ended that year with a 4.07 GPA so again, I'm telling you, no matter how challenging it may seem always give your maximum ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Homework Is Too Much Homework The debate regarding exactly how much homework is too much homework has been an ongoing debate for years. As of right now, there seems to be no end in sight for this debate. Various adults believe that if children do not obtain homework, then they are not learning properly. However, numerous children are obtaining a substantial amount of homework per night, as well as per each class. Once a child exceeds a certain amount of homework, then it is no longer beneficial for the child's education. An excessive amount of homework can essentially become harmful to the child's education. As a result, teachers are struggling with finding the right amount of homework to assign to students. The National Education Association as well as the National Parent–Teacher Association endorse the "10–minute rule" for teachers to follow when assigning homework to students. If a child is assigned an excessive amount of homework, then the child might experience more harm than good when attempting to complete the assigned homework. The National Education Association as well as the National Parent–Teacher Association strongly advocate for the "10–minute rule" when it comes to the amount of homework that a child should be assigned. The 10–minute rule is a guideline for teachers when assigning homework to students. When following the 10–minute rule, teachers should assign ten minutes of homework per grade level of the student for each night. Therefore, first graders should obtain no more than ten ... • 5. Persuasive Essay On Cyberbullying Every day I go to school and meet my best friend at the front of the school. Today as I got off the bus I walked straight to the front doors to meet her. Weirdly, today she was not there, I was surprised. I just think "oh it is cold outside she is probably inside waiting for me, so I go inside. She is not there and this point I am getting very curious. As I walk to the spot we always sit I look and she is not there, I see her with the mean girls bullying a kid. When I see this I am so surprised that I don't even think this is actually happening! As a kid that has been small all my life (So far), I HATE bullying. Those are some of the problems that start cyberbullying. The negative effects of cyberbullying are that people get depressed and they get very sad, then they do not tell anyone that this is happening because that don't want to get in trouble. There are other effects that are worse Such as committing suicide and they do not tell anyone, receive poor grades, have low self–esteem, and miss, skip or drop out of school. In conclusion, my problem of cyberbullying is a worldwide issue. The world should care about it and try to help because every year more and more kids are committing suicide because of bullying and cyberbullying. There are many ways to solve the worldwide problem of cyberbullying. These ways to solve the problems of the teens and some kids that are cyberbullied or cyberbullying other people. Sometimes cyberbullying gets so bad that the teens or kids that are being cyber bullies commit suicide or get so depressed they drop out of school. One solution that I came up with is: you can tell a teacher or a trusted adult if you or your friend is being cyberbullied, if you don't want to tell a teacher or a trusted adult to their face then you can write a note and leave it on the teacher's desk or leave it on your trusted adults doorstep or bed( only if it is your parents). • 6. The Movie ' The Night Dad ' The ideal family has a father and mother with children living in a home full of happiness. That may be true in a movie but the reality is not every child has both of their parents. The number of incarcerated parents has been rising for years now, so why have teachers brainwashed themselves along with the students, that if you don't have a father and mother, it is not normal. In the story, The Night Dad Went to Jail by Melissa Higgins, a young rabbit named Sketch, takes the reader through his experiences that happen during and after his father is arrested. Higgins acknowledges that many child are in the same position as Sketch and wants children do know there are books that relation to them. Some parents may have an issue with a child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His life has changed with his father being away. The story of Sketch touches on many different aspects of children going through struggles of having a parent or parents in prison. The story should be allowed in library for children to read because there are hundreds of other children just like Sketch. Educators need to understand that not all children have both parents in their household. There are large groups of kids who have parents in person. From The Night Dad Went to Jail, Higgins presents a statistic that states, "One in every 43 kids in the United States has a mom or dad in prison. Sixty– five percent of men in prison are dads and 75 percent of women in prison are moms". (Higgins). Clearly, this shows there are more children with incarcerated parents then some people assume. Since the 1980's, there's been a steady increase in the amount of people sent tor prison, and there is not a sign of the number of prisoner decreasing. Making this a perfect opportunity to help those children with parent in prison to understand there are other children going to same experience. An easy way to start assisting those children is by having them read a story that is relatable to them and make feel less isolated. Having a connection with a book and having it be comparable to an event that a child id going through can affect them tremendously. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Autism Communication Strategies Strategies for Autism as a Communication Disorder There are many disorders that can effect a child's learning process. Autism is just one of these common disorders that effects 1 in 68 children (Balch). The American Psychiatric Association defines autism as, "a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by deficits in social communication and social interactions as well as restricted and repetitive behaviors, interests, or activities (Balch, p. 429)." These deficits in social communication greatly hinder the teaching–learning process within the classroom when successful strategies to help these children are not being pursued. This can also be represented within the child's visual schedule to provide understanding for the child ("Strategies for Teachers"). A recess buddy allows for a child to have guaranteed social interaction during any play time. It can be difficult for children with autism to make friends because they have a hard time understanding social cues ("Your ATN@Work"). The recess buddy can also provide a safe and comfortable environment for the child. Since this will be represented in the child's personal visual schedule, the child will have an understanding of who they can spend their social time with. The child's friend can give them comfort in any situation, and allow them to develop their social skills. In order to provide a child the ability to communicate effectively with their peers during their play time, assistive technology can be used. Picture Exchange Cards can be an effective way for students with autism to use pictures of an object to show to others and communicate what they need. Sentences can also eventually be formed with these cards, so the students can progress in learning how to communicate effectively ("Autism"). Homeschooling has become a big trend in student 's education. Lots of children have different reasons of why they are homeschooled some are not acceptable reasons , but they somehow get approved by the board.Kathleen Berchelmann states " As estimated 2.04 million k12 children are homeschooled (Berchelmann). Most of the reasons are bizarre and some people are scared because their child 's teacher is gay all the way down until they do not want their child to go through a sexual education class even though most kids know before their parents even know they know about it. Homeschooling should not be a thing. Who should say you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some things that sound like more work than just going to school where you are supposed to. As Greatschool says some parents create and teach their own curriculum, while others buy a commercial plan(greatschool). Greatschool is explaining that this is how parents teach their children. So, parents can make up anything and give it to their child, or buy a pack from from the school so your child is learning the same thing everyone else is parents just now have to drop a few hundred bucks, What I do not understand is that a parent who are most likely not a teacher or would not qualify to teach are making up lesson plans and at the end of the signing off their child 's diploma. • 12. Why School Violence Have Such Of An Effect On Our Society... Speech 131– T/TH 7:30 am Section 33282 Courtney Mathis ID # 2899247 Why does school violence have such of an effect on our society today? School violence is the intentional use of physical force or power, group or community, with the behavior likely to cause physical or psychological harm. Most school violence start from differences between teenagers. Like for instance about some weeks ago this girl named Amy Joyner died over this boy. The girls that jumped her was mad that she was dating one of the girl's ex boyfriends. It was not her fault that the boy had no more interest in them and wanted to try something new. For the careless actions upon the situation caused one girl to die and 3 charged with attempted murder in the second degree. School violence is just a cry for help in need of attention because of the home training they are lacking at home. I am arguing today we look past our differences and actually communicate and come to some sort of agreement. Let your understanding speak louder than your misconceptions. We as people have to own up to our mistakes and not make every little thing an issue that causes another's life at jeopardy. In the article school violence by Jaana Juvonen she states that "Bullying and more serious violent behavior are not separate problems. Childhood bullying predicts person– oriented crime in young adulthood." How do you feel when you lose another loved one due to violence? What if you try to make a change, but it has gotten so worse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many parents are afraid that talking about sex with their teenagers will be taken as permission for the teen to have sex. Nothing could be further from the truth. If anything, the more children learn about sexuality from talking with their parents and teachers and reading accurate books, the less they feel compelled to find out for themselves" (Spock 62). I will argue teaching sexual education once a child starts kindergarten will have the most effect on their life. I strongly agree it will lower teen pregnancy, teach kids that sex is a desire, and it's okay be curious. With discussing sex earlier on, it would help them realize to take it more serious, less kids would regret having sex before meeting the right person, and it would teach them relationship advice. Even though adults don't think it's right for kids to be taught because starting in kindergarten, their too young and might think it's us telling them to have sex. The purpose of my argument is to show parents sex causes curiosity into children's minds and they need to be taught the right way from the wrong way and don't need to be bashed for having curiosity about sex. Throughout my 21 years on this earth my views on ethics and morals have change. I think that ethics and morals are taught to us by the people we surround ourselves with and the environment that we are in. For example, the behaviors that I experienced in public school on the regular basis, would seem bazar to the people in the North Hills school district, where I transferred to in my junior year of high school. In public school people would roam the halls, talk over teachers, and do a whole lot of other things that aren't normal in a high school setting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the class, we learned about how your environment can affect your ethics and values. I also learned this in my psychology life span class, which was about studying humans and how they evolve over a life time. In this class we learn about how your parents can have an effect on your ethics; but, they only can teach you so much. People learn more from experience than they learn from their parents. We also learn how your perspectives of life change through different stages of your life. For example, when you are young, you value the opinion of your parents more than anything. In your early grade school years you try your best to make your parents proud. At a young age parents have control of persuading their children to act in a way that is ethically correct. Schools in Texas suffer a large amount of dropouts, some believe the students are to blame and other believe it is the teacher's/school. However, schools are not the reason for students failing out because teachers would much rather support and help their students rather than fail them. There are multiple reasons why students are failing due to where they stand in society, how they are socialized throughout their lives, and the social forces that influence their decisions as students. Teacher want to see their students graduate rather than failing. Being a senior in high school, teachers are very supportive and are always open to helping their students because teachers want to see their students be successful. However, that can negatively affect a student's self–concept. Although the teacher is helping the student, the extra attention given in class could result in peer judgement which impacts the student's self–concept. Peers jump to conclusions thinking that student is "stupid" because they are asking for helping or staying after class. Which can be beneficial but shortly after the student begins to believe that they are "stupid" and peers lower the student's self–esteem, and it starts to affect their school work negatively. The people that enter a child's life can alter their attitude and their effort later on. Most importantly, the skills that they are taught can stick with them until the day they die. Most people in a child's life affect them in some miniscule way and although children never realize it, some people are more crucial to their success than others. Children engage in relationships with their parents, their peers and friends, their teachers, and they take part in their community. Different factors within these relationships can affect how they learn and perform as students. Students encounter many influential people through their childhood that affect their learning abilities and characteristics, but parents are statistically proven to have the most impact on learning by assisting their children with their schoolwork and holding them to a standard that other people abandon. It can be verbal bullying (making threats, name–calling), psychological bullying (excluding children, spreading rumors), or physical bullying (hitting, pushing, taking a child's possessions). How Bullying Starts Bullying behavior is prevalent throughout the world and it cuts across socio–economic, racial/ethnic, and cultural lines. Researchers estimate that 20 to 30 percent of school–age children are involved in bullying incidents, as either perpetrators or victims. Bullying can begin as early as preschool and intensify during transitional stages, such as starting school in 1st grade or going into middle school. Victims of bullying are often shy and tend to be physically weaker than their peers. • 24. Persuasive Essay On Anti Bullying Anti–Bullying Bullying has become a very hot topic in schools and on social media. There is a chant kids say "sticks and stones my break my bones, but words will never hurt me." This is totally false. In truth, words can kill. Bullying is a fact of modern society; it can cause psychological effects and in most cases result in self–harm. I believe preventative measures to reduce bullying in schools and social media should be taken. About twenty–eight percent of student's ages 12–18 reported being bullied at school during the school year according to the Indicators of School Crime and Safety report, by the Bureau of Justice statistics. Across thirty–nine states survey, 7.2 percent of students admit to not attending school because they do not feel safe. The importance of bullying can't be undermined. Teachers and parents must understand the importance of looking and listening for signs and behaviors of bullying. This will help tackle the issue before it gets serious and someone gets hurt. To successfully prevent bullying you must be able to spot it. Parents and teachers need to watch for instances of bullying. A person who is isolating themselves from a group doesn't necessarily categorize a person as a loner. That could be a sign that they are being bullied. Just by noticing those warning signs and intervening can help the situation and possibly allow the person being bullied to find comfort in confining you. What is a bully? A bully is a person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker. There are many types of bullying. There is verbal bullying when someone is saying or writing mean things. Verbal bullying includes teasing, name–calling, inappropriate sexual comments, and threatening to cause self harm. Another form of bullying is social bullying. It involves hurting someone's reputation or relationship. Social bullying includes spreading rumors about someone, telling other children not to be friends with someone, and embarrassing someone in public. Then there is physical bullying which involves hurting a person's body or possessions. Which includes hitting or kicking, tripping, taking or breaking someone's things. Daniel Zahorsky Moorhouse 1 Term Paper Final Copy 11/21/14 Student Drop Out There are many numerous causes of students dropping out of high school across the country. However, there are three causes that are most prevalent in students across the globe. One cause is having a lack of parental involvement and participation in a child's life. The atmosphere in homes and neighborhood play a role in kids dropping out of school. Teacher qualification in teaching is a third reason. High School dropout rates have declined a significant amount since 2000 (Fry 1). Only seven percent of students drop out annually compared to the 12 percent that dropped in 2000 (Fry 2). Substantially fewer Hispanic has driven the decline in the national dropout rate, in part, and black youth dropping out of school (Fry 2) Students dropping out of high school are a very serious topic to talk about and have to be taken extremely serious. One of the biggest factors that young adults drop out of high school today is because of teachers and the way they teach their class. Teachers do not consistently hold teens to high enough standards, and sometimes give up on teens too early. The reason teachers are blamed is the enormous amount of time they spend on one topic in school and students find it boring. Judith Harris, the author of The Nurture Assumption, wrote, "There is no question that the adult caregivers play an important role in the baby 's life. It is from these older people that babies learn their first language, have their first experiences in forming and maintaining relationships, and get their first lessons in following rules." As Harris is saying, parents are very influential in the development of a child because that is who the baby learns everything from. A child will pick up the habits and traits that the parents have because that is who the child is looking up to as a role model. One example of the passing along of habits is the fact that children of alcoholics are about four times more likely than the general population to develop alcohol problems. This is a parent passing along what they do onto their children. Although many factors can determine the likelihood of someone becoming an addict, inherited and environmental factors are the big two. The parents have a lot of pressure on them with the child watching their every move and learning from everything they do. As a child grows into his or her teenage years, they begin to be affected by not only the same factors in their childhood but also many new factors they are introduced to. A huge influencer of a ... • 29. Should The School System Be Banned? Alarm bells, lunch pails, and everything else innocent, has been tainted by the presence of narcotics travailing throughout the school yards, lunch halls, and after school events. Questions and intentional ignorance seems to remain as the children are kissed goodbye and sent off to face a world that we, as adults, have no current knowledge of. Unfortunately, our lack of knowledge, where the school systems are concerned, seems to leave to much room to chance. Too many open areas for the snakes to slither in and consume the lives of our children, siblings, friends and more. Even the teachers appear to be easily swayed. What is this that slithers its way into our school houses and universities? Drugs! And when there are mind altering substances, there are also people who build unbreakable connections to them. Something that cannot be avoided, something that cannot seem to even be contained, drugs have a way of coming into lives and destroying them without regret. So what are the school systems facing today? A slight breakdown of statistical information may demonstrate the recurring existence of something that everyone would rather pretend didn't exist. Did You Know?  More High School and College students die from an overdose of prescription pain killers than the use of heroin?  Adderall, which has been prescribed for ADHD, has been increasingly misused among children ranging from Middle School age through to College students.  Before entering their freshman year of High ... It always starts out just wanting to try it to see what it does to you, but usually once you've started it becomes a habit. A habit that you start having no control over, and before you know it you've lost everything that was important to you. People I know have become victims to drugs and it is sad to see the outcome from choosing drugs to rule your life. This could lead to their child being a bully at school or constantly trying to start fights and talk back to their teachers. Children that grow up around drugs are more likely to try drugs at a young age. This could lead to them taking the drugs to school and trying to give or sell them to friends. I've heard a lot about youngers kids going to whitfield county schools that have brought drugs to school and ended up getting caught. These kids end up being expelled from school or being sent to a juvenile correctional facility. Kids that grow up this way end up being the same as their parents, because that's all they have known their whole lives. Choosing to let drugs control your everyday life can completely destroy you. Not only will it hurt you, but also your family and friends who truly care about you. It will make you lose your job, your friends, your family, and everything that you love. • 33. Jerry Tello Analysis The presentation that Jerry Tello gave was like none I've been to before. It was very entertaining and informational all at once. There were a few parts that really struck a cord for me, but I'm going to focus on one particular one because I understand and relate to it and I find it extremely irritated by how more and more children don't know, agree with or understand what's wrong. He described how one day when he was a little boy he sighed and turned his back on his mother when she was asking his to do something and he was spanked by his father for the first and only time in his life. I was taught at a very young age to always respect my elders and to never talk back (of course there are certain circumstances to where that doesn't apply). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Your job is to provide, teach and support your children. More specifically, to teach them how to be able to function in the world. This means teaching them how to behave respectfully to others, not just you. If you're not a single parent home or if you have help from others it is especially important for you guys to be on the same page on how to teach what you need to and how discipline works into the situation because if not, more than likely the first thing the child or children will do is try to pin you guys against each other (I say this because that is what me and my siblings tried to do...it only worked once). It's good to catch disrespectful behavior early if possible. If your child is rude or disrespectful, it's not good to turn a blind eye. Giving consequences when children are younger will pay off in the long run. It may sound old fashioned, but I find that it's very important to teach your child basic manners like saying "please", "may I" and "thank you." If you think about it, when your child deals with their teachers, others outside the household or even gets their first job these common manners will really go a long way and using manners is also a form of empathy. It also teaches your children to respect others and acknowledge their impact on other people. • 34. The Importance Of Recess In School Think about it, when was the last time you asked a kindergartener what their favorite subject in school is and they didn't answer recess? With increased standardized testing and rigid federal and state requirements, most elementary students are now spending more time in the classroom than outside playing. Most schools seem to think that recess is unimportant or a waste of time that is not needed in a child's education. This is a very untrue statement, in fact recess is not only good for our health but it has also had positive effects on childrens' everyday learning. Around the United States researchers, teachers, parents and children have begun to notice that recess and its effects that it has on children is essential in every child's school ... Even though school staff are trying to improve the amount of learning endured during the day, they are actually decreasing the quality of work by taking away recess. Most school officials are unaware of the importance of recess. Though the effects of recces on kindergarteners and first graders are not very significant, as they get older signs of change become more and more relevant whether its during testing or just paying attention during class. Teachers may notice the difference but they may not know the causes of this lack of focus. Speaking in support of more recess principal Angela Long said, "We find that we spend less time in the classroom redirecting off–task behavior. So, kids are going to take recess whether it's in the class or outside so we just give it to them,"(Long). She is saying recess is essential to kids. The word family may be defined in various ways: you may define it as a group of close friends who you genuinely care for and trust, or as a group of people who are related by the blood which runs through their veins. In this country, we see all types of families. The traditional nuclear family consists of – a father, mother, and children. However, currently this is not always the case. • 36. Socialization Of Homeschool Parents have the right to choose the path for their child education. They should take the time to consider the long–term effect it could have on their child. Home schooled children could be missing out on valuable lessons in life and the opportunity to participate in school activities and sporting events. Socialization plays an important part of a child's growth and understanding of the real world. Children must learn to respect people in authority outside of the home setting. Just anyone can not teach education; there should be some guidelines for homeschool just as there are for public schools. There are many memories made from public or private school settings. As one smart person once stated, "If there were no schools to take the children away from home part of the time, the insane asylums would be filled with mothers." (Howe). Every interaction your child has helped him learn language skills, ways to cope with emotions and how to work within social norms. • 37. Homework Controversy Is homework helpful or harmful? The homework controversy has been going on for a quiet a long time with no end in sight. Homework is defined as an out of class task assigned to the students to help with practice or prepare for the future. Homework has been around a long period of time. It has set and traced as a tradition of having teachers assigning work and students completing it. Parents say that teachers require it and teachers say's that parents demand to help their kids to finish it. Teachers assign homework to help some students improve their grade, pass course, re–learn the subject you learn in the class, and pass the course for those of who do not do well on tests and exams. Can homework be considered helpful or harmful? This interrogation turns into an argument or debate between two reasonable subjects. Especially for the student's athletes or any students who enjoys after school activities, homework hurts probably the most. The assignments take away time, which could be spent on doing more productive actions or spend time with your family or may cause unnecessary stress. Parents, educators, students and indeed general public have all deeply divided over the homework issues for a while. • 38. How Homeschooling Should Be Banned Resolve that homeschooling should be banned. Imagine, you are a parent and you want the best education for your child. Which do you choose, a public school, or homeschooling? The answer is blatantly obvious, and I'm here to tell you why. Firstly, you have to work to provide for YOURSELF, let alone a FAMILY. It takes $10.20 per hour to provide for yourself, now let 's take that times the average family size. On average, a family has 2 parents and 2.5 children, so 4.5 people. So let 's multiply that by the needed hourly wage. This gets us $45.90 an hour, which is a HUGE underestimate, (which means no extra luxuries, like having your children in sports) but we should just go with this number for simplicity. $45.90 an hour isn't a devastating number, as long as you have 2 working parents. But with homeschooling one parent will have to take off A LOT of work to off educate their children. So let 's assume that you have 1.4 working parents with the average hourly wage (so one full time working parent and one that has to take off SIX TENTHS of their jobs) , and keep in mind this is generous for my opponent 's side of the argument. This will give us, wait for it... only 23.39! This isn't even close to provide for a family, in fact that's only enough to provide for the parents! And yes, I do realize that this won 't be a problem to all families. Some will be able to afford this with ease. Also this isn 't a reason it should be banned, but rather a hindrance to a majority of families. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
