5. Muhammad Yunus (Bangladesh)
Muhammad Yunus is a economist and social entrepreneur.
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his pioneering work in microcredit.
He founded the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh in 1983.
The Grameen Bank provided small loans to impoverished individuals without requiring collateral or
formal contracts.
This approach, called "microcredit," has lifted millions out of poverty around the world.
Yunus also founded other social businesses, including Grameenphone, which brought affordable
telecommunications to rural communities in Bangladesh.
He has received numerous awards and honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom from the
United States government.
6. ABDUS SALAM (PAKISTANI)
He was born on January 29, 1926, in Jhang, Punjab
Pakistani physicist and mathematician.
