GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS TO STRENGTHEN WOMEN
Benazir income support
BISP is a federal unconditional cash transfer poverty reduction program. Launched in July
2008 by PPP government, it is the largest single social safety net program in the country with
nearly Rupees. 90 billion ($900 million) distributed to 5.4 million beneficiaries every year.
The vision of BISP is the eradication of poverty and elevating the status of marginalized and
under privileged sections of society, especially women, through establishment of
comprehensive Social Protection Net.
Ehsaas kafaalat program
Ehsaas Kafaalat is the P.T.I Government’s program, launched in August 2019, through which
cash stipends of Rupees. 2,000 monthly is given to the most deserving and poorest women
across the country. Through a parallel Ehsaas policy initiative, women are also getting better
access to smartphones, as a step towards digital inclusion.

BENAZIR BHUTTO
Also called Shaheed Mohtrma Benazir Bhutto (SMBB) was a politician and daughter
of famous Pakistani political leader Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. She born on 21st June 1953
and martyred on 27th December 2007.
First lady to serve as a Prime Minister in any Muslim Majority Country (1988) and
1993.
Chaired PPP from 1980 to 2007.
Inspiration for many women.
founding member of the Council of Women World Leaders, a group
established in 1996.
She opened a series of all-female police stations, staffed with female

SAADAT HASSAN MANTOO
Born on 11 May 1912, was a colonial Indian and Pakistani Play writer and author.
Mantoo was known to write about the hard truths of society that no one dared to
talk about. He is best known for his stories about the partition of India in 1947.
His famous quote is “A writer picks up his pen only when his sensibility is hurt.“
His famous writings include: Thanda Gosht, Khol Do and Toba Tek Singh.
BANO QUDSIA
Born in November 1928, also known as Bano Aapa,was a novelist, playwright
and spiritualist. She wrote literature in Urdu, producing novels, dramas plays
and short stories. She is best recognized for her novel Raja Gidh and drama
series Adhi Baat.
She was awarded Sitara e Imtiaz in 1983 and Halal e Imtiaz in 2010.
