2. Introduction
■ I am a 3rd year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of
Toronto
■ The following slides showcase the various skills I have acquired and
over the course of several years (dating back as early as grade 10)
■ Skills showcased
– Machining
– CAD design (mainlySolidWorks) – part modeling/assemblies
– Arduino
– Manufacturing
3. Machining – Pneumatic Piston
■ By following a set of schematics I machined a pneumatic piston
primarily out of aluminium
■ Materials and equipment used include; aluminium cylinders, lathe, drill
press, and milling machine.
4. CAD –TankTreads
■ I began CAD modelling in grade 10 on Blender by first creating simple
shapes and objects then moving onto more complex designs
■ My first personal project I attempted to model as a challenge to myself
was a pair of tank treads
5. CAD – PCB Milling Machine
■ As a part of a 2nd year design course, my team and I were tasked with
designing the mechanical components of an entry level milling machine
■ One of my tasks was to model the entire design with another teammate
on SolidWorks. The modelled parts included a scotch yoke, planetary
gear train, housings, and various other support structures
6. CAD - Headphones
■ This SolidWorks model was another personal project in which I
challenged myself to create an object with a more abstract geometry as
well as produce a final rendering with appropriate textures
7. Arduino
■ This was my first project using Arduino. I created a “magic crystal ball”
using an LCD screen and a tilt sensor
■ The LCD first asks the user to ask any question and shaking the circuit
board generates a randomized response
8. Manufacturing – Rocket Airframe
■ In my extracurricular time, as a member of the University ofToronto
Aerospace team, I had the opportunity to create carbon fiber layups for the
airframe of a rocket
■ After research and planning, several layups were made to further be used as
benchmarks in tensile tests. Attention to detail was especially important in
this project to ensure the structural integrity of the rocket
