1. Title: Roots Matter.
Part 1
Nangula is a young vibrant girl born to a single mother in a small village some kilometers from
Ondangwa. Nangula is a grade 7 learner at a nearby village school and she's the head girl at the
school. Nangula grew up just with her mom alone. Growing up, Nangula never knew her father , she
never met him nor saw him. All she heard was that apparently her father was a well-known gomcha
from Oshakati a town just 2 hours away from Ondangwa. Nangula was just raised by her mama alone,
as she was the only child. Growing up, her mama brought her up in a manner everybody would admire.
Respect and discipline was what held her upright. Growing up, she knew that life was not easy at all.
She knew all what her mama been through and how she tried very hard to keep her happy and firm.
Nangula had much respect for her mama and the bond between them was stronger than concrete. As
Nangula grew up, her mama told her more about life! That life is live, and it is just a onetime offer!
Whether it is in humans, animals, plants or any other living thing. Every living thing is blessed with a
precious gift. It comes in any form and yet perish in any form. In humans, life is a journey. It is a long
journey all the way from the womb to underground. In addition, the time to travel from the womb to
underground is very limited. For some it take seconds, minutes, hours or days to reach their
destination. But for some , it takes decades. Her mama also used to brief her on what she must expect
in her future. Nangula's root system was strengthened by her cultural norms and differences. She
grew up being proud of herself, her skin color, her culture and her general background.

At school, Nangula was known for her academic performance and her leadership qualities. She was
the top performing learner at the school and was the school head girl. Many of her schoolmates
admired her character and warm personality, while some wished they were her! Nangula was also

stuffs.
Her mother and her English teacher that knew her inspired Nangula. Throughout her grade 7 year,
Nangula studied very hard with hopes that she will one day reach out to varsity through high school
so that she can study hard and help her mother once successful. Besides having many friends,
Nangula had a best friend, Maria. They have been friends for the past years after they met in grade 3.
They stay like sister and sister. They knew more about one another including their general
backgrounds. Both of them where not well off but they knew what their ultimate goal was! ( to study
hard and get something out of it ) throughout their grade 7 year , they enjoyed their last year in primary
school and looked forward to getting a better high school that could shape them and sharpen their
brains. Throughout their grade 7 year , it was also the year that Nangula's friend , Maria got her first
kiss from a boy that had been admiring her all years long the day of their farewell party.
