User insight
GOAL
promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests, halt deforestation, restore
degraded forests and substantially increase afforestation and reforestation globally

2. Deforestation Issue
We focus on deforestation isseu as a big problem
that leads to other problems, such as extinction,
poverty, climate change, food crisis etcs.

3. Secondary research found agricultural
responsibility for 80% of deforestation

4. Urban Agricultural / Urban Farm
Focus on ‘Restaurant / Cafe owner’ as a stake holder
Urban farm is the practice of cultivating, processing,
and distributing food in or around urban areas.

5. Goal for interview
To understand opinions of restaurant owner in terms of urben farming
Research Question
● What is restaurant owner thoughts/ action toword to sustainability of environment
● To learn restaurant business and practice in terms of supply resources
● To learn predicted the key challenge for running restaurant , having urban-farming

She operated a salad
delivery service in her cafe.
She is not very interested in
environmental issues. She is
most concerned about the
money.

Located in Bangkok,
Thailand
Her family own land and has
a small farm for restaurant
included lemongrass, basil,
lettuce and some fruit.
User 3
Cafe and Bakery Owner Located
in downtown Vancouver
He think its hard to connect
deforestation issue to running
business right away, but
he’s sure its connected in some
way.
For environment in his cafe, he
try to promote in store cup by
charging for a to-go cup.
He thinks urban farming is very
challenging. You need to first
having space and time, you need
to actually know what you're
doing.

High Impact + Hight effort
- Users think making urban farm needs a lot of time
- For people who doesn’t own land sapce is a big challenge for urban farming
- Cost is the important challenge for urban farm
- Urban farm might need spacific employee to take care
- Urban farms have other benefits besides environmental issues, such as space
utilization.

11. Key Insights
High Impact + Low effort
- Users are careless about the deforestation even though they have heard about it.
- Finding the connection between deforestation and business is difficult for owners here.
- Urban farm can be the way to control quality of resource
- Knowledge about urban farming is important for making farm
