1. Math 8 Tip:Making Percentiles A math skill which may help if you’re struggling with making percentiles out of fractions and decimals.
2. Converting Fractions & Decimals Into Percentiles Converting fractions and decimals into percentiles is easy, once you get used to it. This slideshow will help you get used to the idea. Then you should be able to convert fractions and decimals into percentiles.
3. Converting Fractions Step 1 We will take data as following. Say 14 out of 28 people like kit kat bars. 9 out of 28 like bueno. 2 people like snickers, and 3 people like no chocolate. Take the fraction 14/28 Divide 14 by 28. You get 0.5 0.5 = 50 %, so 50% of the people like kit kat bars. Now take 9/28. 9 divided by 8 = 0.32 0.32 = 32%, so 32% like bueno.
4. Now take 3/28. 3 divided by 28 = 0.11 0.11 = 11%, so 11% of the people don’t like chocolate. Now use 2/28 2 divided by 28 = 0.07 0.07 = 7%, so 7 % of the people like snickers.
5. It is the same thing if the denominator is 100, or anything else. Converting decimals is easy, as the number to the right of the decimal turns into a percent. Here is an example. 0.77=77% 0.42=42% etc. I hope this helped with any problems you might have had. Check out a presentation on graphs to learn how to put percentiles and information into a graph!
