Location of Jamaica
• Jamaica is Located in the Caribbean which is
in the middle of south and North America.
Jamaica is also located near the edge the
tropic of Cancer.

squared where as Australia is 7,682,300 Km

• Jamaica has 2,827,602 people.
• The capital of Jamaica is Kingston which is
near the south end of Jamaica.

:National animal, President and currency
• The currency of Jamaica is the Jamaican
dollar. The person on the Jamaican dollar is
Sir Alexander Bustamante. Sir Alexander is
one of the Jamaican national heroes.
• The current president of Jamaica is Andrew
Michael Holness. He has only two more years
as president.
• The National Animal of Jamaica Is the red
billed streamertail. This Bird mainly lives in
the east of Jamaica. The Black billed
streamertail (the pest) lives in the west of
Jamaica.

parliamentary democracy under a
constitutional monarchy.
• The flag was made in July 1776, the
Jamaican flag has a golden X and two
green and black triangles.

Physical Features of Jamaica
• Jamaica can be split into three land form Types: The eastern
mountains, the central valleys and plateaus and the costal
plains. The most elevated area in Jamaica is the Blue
Mountain in eastern Jamaica. The island is ringed with
numerous bays, small cays, islands and white-sandy beaches.
• The limestone plateau covers two thirds of Jamaica. To the
west of the mountains is the rugged terrain of the cockpit
country. It’s a harsh, dramatic landscape with endless hills.
Jamaica has 100 rivers, however most rivers are small,
unexplored and navigable. Many rivers are underground rivers
and run through the limestone region.

• The most recent survey conducted by the Statistical
Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) showed that Jamaica’s
literacy rate is an impressive 89% overall. The male
literacy rate came out at 84% and the female at
93%. This puts Jamaica second to Italy who is the
highest in the world at 99%.
• Jamaica's average death rate is: 7 out of 1,000
people die. The average birth rate of Jamaica is: 18
births out of 1,000 people.

• Jamaica throw a lot of festivals or events such as:
Bob Marly week:
February 6th.
Fans from all around the world
and Jamaica come to celebrate
Bob Marley week. The reason for
this event was Bob Marley’s
death.
Trelawny Yam
Festival: Easter
Monday.
The Trelawny Yam festival started
in 1997 as a way to fundraise and
support the local community.
There are over 18 different types
of Yam. In 2004 the Yam festival
had over 18,000 people attend.
Portland Jerk
Festival: July 3rd.
Portland jerk festival is a great
chance to try some of the
delicious and diverse Jamaican
cuisines. In addition , you can
get a taste of Jamaican music.
Jamaican jerk is a style of spicy
cooking native to Jamaica.
Bacchanal Jamaica
Carnival: January
1st-February 28th.
The growth of the Carnival in
Jamaica over the years has helped
to make it Kingston’s most popular
festival. The annual Jamaican
Carnival hosts events featuring
local and international soca and
calypso artists.
There are Road Marches, a
costumed street parade and people
enjoy soca, calypso and reggae
music.
