2. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation- "Code Blue"
Code Blue: Emergency code is generally used to indicate a patient requiring
resuscitation or otherwise in need of immediate medical attention, most often as
the result of a respiratory or cardiac arrest.
Scope: Response applicable to all areas including clinical, administrative &
supportive services within the hospital premises.
Purpose: The goal and purpose of this code is to ensure that a skilled medical
team response for emergency resuscitation is available promptly at any given time.
7. • Code Blue is repeated three times with a gap of 10 seconds
• Time of call and details to be recorded by telephone operator in
code announcement register
• Dedicated extension number to inform Code Blue: 99
8. 3. DUTIES OF RESPONSE TEAM
Code Blue Team is responsible to ensure prompt and effective
CPR to the patients in need
17. • CPR team reviews and analyses the effectiveness of Code Blue Team activities
• Post Event Team consists of one intensivist, one ER physician, one physician,
one anesthetist and a Nursing superintendent.
• The gaps are identified, the Root Cause(s) is determined and appropriate CAPA
is taken
• Analysis is recorded in the CPR Reporting Form
• The analysis will be presented in the Code Blue Committee Meeting for
adequate CAPA
