To Whom it May Concern:
I joyfully write this letter of reference for Ximena Segovia who was a very respectful,
hardworking, creative and joyful member of my drama class, our Drama Club and the
elite acting team chosen to represent our school at the AASCA (Association of American
Schools of Central America) Drama Festival. At that time (she was active in these
endeavors during her senior year at the Escuela Americana de El Salvador, school year
2013-2014) I was teaching both High School Theater and AP English Language &
Composition at said school, an excellent, bi-lingual, college preparatory school where I
taught for over fifteen years. I have since moved back to my native state of Texas, but
Ximena and I have kept in touch and she is an intelligent young lady who demonstrated
honesty, empathy, and kindness daily in our class and club; she was also a cleverly
creative problem solver and at times served as a very effective group leader.
Besides being a smiling, supportive presence in the classroom, her trustworthiness and
professionalism as a member of our acting troupe shined through when she traveled with
us to the aforementioned Drama festival in Costa Rica and enthusiastically participated in
our comedic one act play, and in an award winning scene, as well. Ximena is kind, has a
wonderful sense of humor and is driven to express herself creatively. I am also aware that
she is dedicated to service towards the less fortunate as she shared in class once, in an
original monologue, details about the social service she spent some of her high school
time devoted to- at a local children’s hospital. Her monologue was heartfelt and revealed
her genuine desire to help others- above and beyond the social service hours required for
graduation. She has had much experience navigating the waters of communication
between different cultures- especially since she is Salvadoran but spent her final high
school years at the American school. Her choice to study International Relations seems
like a perfect fit. She has a diplomatic personality and is an excellent communicator and a
hard worker.
In my experience with Ximena, she was always mature and responsible, worked with a
positive attitude in a group, showed creative problem solving talent and drive and, most
importantly, true empathy and the dedication necessary to succeed in higher education. I
recommend Ximena Segovia highly, without reservation, for her chosen university path
and I wish her all the best.
