The Local Employment Planning Council (LEPC) is a hub
connecting employers, different levels of government,
service providers, trainers and other local partners to
facilitate awareness of current Peel Halton labour market
conditions and promote discussion to find
targeted relevant, need-based employment and training
solutions for our community.

3. MANUFACTURING
Manufacturing is one of the most important industries in Peel and
Halton Regions. Even with declines in employment and production,
manufacturing accounted for 14% of all local employment (2014
figures) and 17% of local GDP (2013 figures). Manufacturing has been
identified as the prime local industry warranting workforce

As a result, there will be a need to
replace a significant number of retiring
workers. Consultations indicate there is
great need to generate more
manufacturing managers.
SHORT SUPPLY
Certain manufacturing occupations are in short
supply across most regions: millwrights, motor
vehicle assemblers, machinists, machining and
tooling inspectors, and welders (transportation and
warehousing, and wholesale trade).
Over half are over the age of 45 years old,
with 5-10% of the manufacturing workforce
expected to retire in the next decade.
