A short film pitch is presented for a 5-minute mockumentary comedy drama called "Lecture". The film follows a teacher whose life falls apart but finds help from his students. Inspirations include British comedy shows like "The Office" and "This is Spinal Tap". The target audience is fans of mockumentary genres. The British Film Institute is proposed as the producer since it finances smaller British films.

What is it?
‘Lecture’ is a short film that is a comedy drama, done in the
style of a mockumentary.
The film is about a teacher whose life suddenly falls apart, and
is surprised to find that help comes from his students, reversing
the role of responsibility to an extent.
They show him he has a lot to be happy about by showing him
their own problems and how they deal with it all.

Summer Work
I produced a flat plan of a film poster and a spread in a
magazine, in which the film is reviewed and a short interview
with the lead actor is included.
You can see both of these in the next slides.

Inspirational Texts
I have two main inspirational texts. One is ‘The Office’ (UK
Version), and the other is ‘This is Spinal Tap’.
Both of these texts are ‘mockumentaries’ which is a mock
documentary. This style usually falls under comedy and has
very distinct conventions.
‘The Office’ is influential in the mood and atmosphere it
captures, which is one filled with heart and genuine characters,
whilst ‘Spinal Tap’ is more of a comedic influence.

Below, there is a short clip from ‘This is Spinal Tap’ to show the
comical feel my film is going for.

Which Institution?
BFI, or, the British Film Institute, is an institute committed to
promoting the access to, and application of film and moving
image culture in the UK.
They finance, and produce, many a smaller british film and give
them distribution in an attempt to bring these great films to a
wider audience.
Because of the low budget nature of my film, I would imagine
BFI to be the best company to produce my text.

Target Audience
This production is aimed at anyone who enjoys ‘The Office’, or
any other kind of mockumentary.
I’m going to try to keep the piece gender neutral, but since
there is a male protagonist, there will be a slight lean towards a
male identification point.
To get around this, I’m going to try and code my piece to have
another female identification point in one of the students. This
way, I avoid the trap of this piece being focused on a male
audience.
