not to. Skimming involves locating the main idea of a text. Once located, this main idea would give you an overview for the supporting statements
that you would have to read afterwards. Remember that skimming is used only when your purpose for reading allows you to read for general
concepts rather than specific information (McWhorter, 453). If you already know the text that you are about to read, then apply scanning. Aside
from going directly to what you need, other words that pass through your scanning fingertips would somehow flash to your brain. Thus, you are
exposed to the other information of the text. Glancing may be used to detect organizational pattern of a text as you basically go over the text in no
particular order. Lastly, you could skip some parts of a text because either you feel that it is not too relevant or you already know the details of what is
being discussed. There are two things that we need to possess to get things going: motivation and self–discipline. Motivation gives you the drive to
pursue what is needed to be done. It eliminates negative thoughts that hinder the fulfilment of your goals. Self–discipline, on the other hand, is the
controlling factor to your pursued objective. If motivation gives you the head start, self–discipline helps you continue what you have started.

I have already gone through the hurdle in my life where beliefs I have had in my whole life have been a fabrication. I learned to overcome the
anger a long time ago. Even with the uncertainly of some beliefs that may be true, false, or in the middle, or looking at your opposing side and
calmly analyzing their viewpoint; it isn't that difficult for me to do anymore. The hardest thing someone will find is looking at the opposing side
of their argument. The human brain likes to simplify processes and this is a very easy example of what the brain does. Since they are against your
viewpoint, your brain would assign them as an enemy. Things are not as black and white as that and viewing perspectives who oppose you can
either teach you something new or reinforce your standing. Hopefully not in the way where you just belittle them as x category, but see why they
think and act the way they do. Much of what critical thinking does is really subjective on what would be the easiest but I would say that for me, it
would be ask questions. Now this may also be the hardest step for most people as well. But, if you have toned you're ability to critically think, this

understood it (critical reading). You can choose to accept or reject a presentation, but you should know why. You have a responsibility not just to

Critical Thinking In a inspiring study on critical thinking and education in 1941, Edward Glaser defines critical thinking as "The ability to think
critically, as conceived in this volume, involves three things: (1) an attitude of being disposed to consider in a thoughtful way the problems and
subjects that come within the range of one 's experiences, (2) knowledge of the methods of logical inquiry and reasoning, and (3) skill in applying those
methods. Critical thinking calls for a persistent effort to examine any belief or supposed form of knowledge in the light of the evidence that supports it
and the further conclusions to which it intends. (Glaser, 1941) What critical thinking means to me is being able to make reasonable judgments that are
logical and thought out. It is a way of thinking in which you don 't simply accept all arguments and conclusions you are exposed to, but rather have an
attitude involving questioning such arguments and conclusions along with accepting two sides of an idea. It requires wanting to see what evidence is

Fallacies are divided into two main categories: irrelevant premises and unacceptable premises. A fallacy that falls under the irrelevant premises is
appeal to the person. Appeal to the person is rejecting the claim not because of the claim itself, but because of the person who makes the claim. In
the workplace, someone could suggest a pleasing idea, but because of the individual it came from, an idea that could have been exertive is now
useless. Another fallacy is appeal to popularity, arguing that a claim must be true solely because a significant number of people believe it.
Because the majority says something, does not mean that it is always right. What an individual believe is extraneous. Something could happen at
work where there is a counterfactual mistake, but because merely everyone believes it, it can produce many mistakes. Appeal to tradition is
another fallacy that an individual can examine while in a work setting. Many people believe only what is connected to their traditions and beliefs.
This is fallacious because everyone has a different belief and while in a work setting, you are going to work with people who have very different
belief systems. While applying a person's guilt, anger, resentment, pity, etc. to get what you want, you are appealing to emotion. A person is

In short, this course was very informative and it the most significant learning experience for me was defining critical thinking because I was
intimidated by the word critical thinking. For the most part, I knew what the term critical thinking meant because I apply it in my everyday life.
However, in our first assignment, I had to read to read define critically thinking several times to get a better understanding. In my own words, I
described critical thinking as analyze a subject in more depth, but I learned in our reading assignments that the definition of critical thinking is "define

In my job, I have to do a lot of power point communication and I take what I learned from the subject and apply it in my presentation at my job. In
hindsight, I did majority of previously presentation by being nervous and my preparation was not effective. However, in the text I learned that, there is
an art to effective and persuasive speech, psychology also comes into play in terms of creating a presentation that incorporates an understanding of the
way that people make up their minds about something (Excelsior College, n.d., para 2). How will you apply what you learned in your future work?
Please provide a specific example or scenario. In the future, I'll be applying new understanding of critical thinking in which will allow me to
demonstrate the ability to remember information and apply it. Another significant point was communication in which I had the opportunity to
demonstrate my ability in advanced written communication; thirdly, I have a better understanding of recognizing diversity in which will give me a
better understanding in communicating with people of different cultures better than I previously did. Finally, the most important topic I'll be able to
use in the future is ethics because I can apply ethics to everything I do and I have a better understanding of why my job or future jobs requires me fill
out their forms before I can have my email accounts

I have already gone through the hurdle in my life where beliefs I have had in my whole life have been a fabrication. I learned to overcome the anger a long time ago. Even with the uncertainly of some beliefs that may be true, false, or in the middle, or looking at your opposing side and calmly analyzing their viewpoint; it isn't that difficult for me to do anymore.
