Impact Of King Henry Viii
King Henry VIII, the second son of King Henry VII, was born at Greenwich, England in 1491. He succeeded the throne upon the death of his
brother King Arthur in 1509. He married six wives in the hopes of getting a son as he could be the heir to the throne and become the next king of
England. His first two wives failed to do so, but his third wife Jane Seymour, had given birth to a son and he was later named Edward VI. He then
married three more wives, and his last wife Catherine of Parr, outlived King Henry who died in 1548. King Henry VIII was an tremendously important
leader as he had greatly impacted the Renaissance by starting the English Reformation, the union between England and Wales, and he patronized the
arts and literature. The religious reformation took place in king Henry's reign. He took away the roman Catholicism from England, and replaced it with

King Henry's wife Catherine of Aragon was unable to give Henry a son, and also the fact that King Henry fell in love with Anne Boleyn drove him to
get a divorce from Catherine. He requested that the Pope give him a divorce so he could re–marry, however it was unethical to Catholics to get a
divorce, the Roman Catholic Church did not allow it. King Henry then went to the Archbishop of Canterbury to grant him the divorce, but William
Warham didn't agree. Matters were getting worse as Anne was pregnant, Henry needed to marry her or else the child wouldn't be legitimate.
However, King Henry was lucky, and William Warham had died, so he appointed Thomas Cranmer to be the next Archbishop and he gave King
Henry the divorce. In 1534, two years after the divorce, the Act of Supremacy took place, and this was caused the break from the Roman Catholic
Church, and Henry became the supreme head of the Church of England. This caused King Henry to gain a lot more power than he already had. After a

King Henry VIII Henry VIII (born 1491, ruled 1509–1547). The second son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York was one of England's strongest and
least popular monarchs. He was born at Greenwich on June 28, 1491. The first English ruler to be educated under the influence of the Renaissance,
he was a gifted scholar, linguist, composer, and musician. As a youth he was gay and handsome, skilled in all manner of athletic games, but in later
life he became coarse and fat. When his elder brother, Arthur, died (1502), he became heir apparent. He succeeded his father on the throne in 1509,

In the northern part of the kingdom the people rose in rebellion in behalf of the monks, but the Pilgrimage of Grace, as it was called, was put down.
Although Henry reformed the government of the church, he refused to allow any changes to be made in its doctrines. Before his divorce he had
opposed the teachings of Martin Luther in a book that had gained for him from the pope the title Defender of the Faith––a title the monarch of England
still bears. After the separation from Rome he persecuted with equal severity the Catholics who adhered to the government of Rome and the
Protestants who rejected its doctrines. Henry was married six times. Anne Boleyn bore the king one child, who became Elizabeth I. Henry soon
tired of Anne and had her put to death. A few days later he married a third wife, Jane Seymour. She died in a little more than a year, after having
given birth to the future Edward VI. A marriage was then contracted with a German princess, Anne of Cleves, whom the king had been led to believe
to be very beautiful. When he saw her he discovered that he had been tricked, and he promptly divorced this wife and beheaded Thomas Cromwell, the
minister who had arranged the marriage. Henry's fifth wife, Catherine Howard, was sent to the block for misconduct. In 1543 he married his sixth wife,
the tactful and pious Catherine Parr. Catherine, who survived Henry, lived to marry her fourth husband. During Henry's reign

Why Is King Henry Viii Important
King Henry VIII of England was desperate for ultimate power and for his name to be carried on throughout generations. He changed world history by
beginning the separation of the English government from the church hoping to establish the concept of secular governments.
Henry Tudor was born on June 28, 1491 in the Greenwich Palace. He is the son of Henry VII of England and Elizabeth York. After his father's death,
Henry became known as king of England. He married six different women (Catherine Parr, Catherine Howard, Anne of Cleves, Jane Seymour,Anne
Boleyn, and Catherine of Aragon) in the time of his reign. His marriages are most familiar in the mnemonic device, "divorced, beheaded, died
/divorced, beheaded, survived", talking about his wives. Henry had six siblings, yet only three survived: Arthur, Margaret, and Mary. Arthur was
expected to take the throne considering he is older than Henry, but he died at the age of 15, four months after his marriage to Catherine of Aragon.
Henry was offered to the family alliance of Spain by his father to Arthur's widow. At the age of 17, he had married Catherine.
King Henry was only a teenager when taking the throne, not even an adult. He had a short attention span and no inclination to accomplish any hard
work. Henry had known about all the issues and new information...show more content...
Henry was Roman Catholic and Roman Catholic's believed in marriage for life, this put him in a tough position. The pope could excommunicate him,
meaning his soul could never get to Heaven. Henry had the Archbishop grant him a divorce so he could marry Anne Boleyn. He declared himself as
the supreme head of the Church of England after the Christian church separated, in 1534, by the Act of Parliament. This made the church separated
from the pope and not under Rome's power anymore. This started the English

Henry Viii Analysis
Though Henry VIII was alive over 500 years ago, the portrait of Henry VIII by Hans Holbein is still deceivingly intimidating and has been
described as "the best bit of propaganda ever" (Wilson, 2009). It is evident through the use of the elements in the portrait that Henry VIII planned this
portrait to make the viewer feel abashed and powerless in its presence. Whether the portrait is similar to the real Henry VIII, we may never know,
however, we can see through the elements of this portrait how Henry wanted to be perceived. The elements of the expensive clothing and jewellery, as
well as the luxurious furnishings in the background, show Henry's royalty and superiority. Whilst the deep red colours are associated with strength and

King Henry Viii's Monarchy In Medieval England
During the Medieval era, supreme Papal authority was law and controlled all matters of, not only religion but also of state and societal matters. The
infamous King Henry VIII was the second monarch in the Tudor dynasty who controversially introduced divorce and broke England for the Roman
Catholic religion. Prior to the paradigm shift beginning the English Reformation of the 16th century in which the Church of England broke away
from the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church, King Henry VIII was one of the Catholic faith's most ardent enthusiasts. In a dissertation he publicly
excoriated Martin Luther and his reformist followers in relation to the Lutheran schism. Ironically, in recognition of Henry's religious devoutness
Pope Leo X awarded the King with "Fidei Defensor" or, Defender of the Faith. Barely a decade later, Henry led his own schism and created a new
paradigm of Church and State as one. His lack of a male heir and an increasing infatuation with Anne Boleyn led to convincing himself that his
mostly–barren marriage to Catherine of Aragon, his brother's widow, was a great biblical...show more content...
In 1521 he wrote an execration of the German Protestant Martin Luther, stating the reformist as "A venomous serpent, a pernicious plague, infernal
wolf, an infectious soul, a detestable trumpeter of pride, calumnies and schism." After the death of Henry's brother, Arthur, Pope Julius II issued an
ecclesiastic dispensation allowing the marriage of Henry to Catherine; Henry disputed that no pope could sanction contrarily to the law of God. By
1530 Henry's only legitimate heir was Mary, and was justifiably concerned about the political consequences of leaving only a female heir. In this
period, people believed it unnatural for women to rule over men. At best a female ruler meant an assailed reign, at worst turmoil and

King of England from 1509–1547, Henry VIII had an exceptional life. He was famously married 6 times. Henry VIII was witty, highly educated, and
had a love for music. Despite being good–natured, Henry knew how to get what he wanted no matter the cost. Overall, Henry VIII was well liked by
his people and was determined to accomplish great things throughout his reign and lifetime. The second son of King Henry VII and Elizabeth of
York, Henry VIII was born on June 28, 1491 at Greenwich Palace. He had 6 siblings, but only 3 survived. Their names were Arthur, Margaret, and

and Catherine was executed in 1542 for adultery and treason because of an alleged affair with Henry's courtier, Francis Dereham. His sixth and final
marriage was to Catherine Parr. Catherine acted more as a nurse to him than a wife, and went on to outlive

Essay about Henry VIII
Henry VIII From any point of view the destruction of the English monasteries by Henry VIII must be regarded as one of the great events of the
sixteenth century. They were looked upon in England, at the time of Henry's breach with Rome, as one of the great bulwarks of the papal system. The
monks had been called "the great standing army of Rome." One of the first practical results of the assumption of the highest spiritual powers by the
king was the supervision by royal decree of the ordinary episcopal visitations, and the appointment of a layman –– Thomas Cromwell –– as the king's
vicar–general in spirituals, with special authority to visit the monastic houses, and to bring them into line with the new order of things. This was in

It must have been felt, however, by the astute Cromwell, who is credited with the first conception of the design, that to succeed, a project such as
this must be sustained by strong yet simple reasons calculated to appeal to the popular mind. Some decent pretext had to be found for presenting the
proposed measure of suppression and confiscation to the nation, and it can hardly now be doubted that the device of blackening the characters of the
monks and nuns was deliberately resorted to. The visitation opened apparently in the summer of 1535, although the visitatorial powers of the bishops
were not suspended until the eighteenth of the following September. Preachers were moreover commissioned to go over the country in the early
autumn, in order, by their invectives, to educate public opinion against the monks. These pulpit orators were of three sorts: "railers", who declaimed
against the religious as "hypocrites, sorcerers, and idle drones, etc."; "preachers", who said the monks "made the land unprofitable"; and those who
told the people that, "if the abbeys went down, the king would never want any taxes again." This last was a favourite argument of Cranmer, in his
sermons at St. Paul's Cross. The men employed by Cromwell –– the agents entrusted with the task of getting up the required evidence –– were chiefly

Henry was engaged to Catherine of Aragon, widow of his older brother Arthur at age 12 when his brother died. Catherine was 5 years older than
Henry was. They were married when Henry's father, Henry VII, died and Henry VIII took the Throne and Catherine became Queen.
At this time Henry wanted a son so badly, an heir to his throne. Catherine had many children with with Henry. Only one survived and it unfortunately
was not a boy. It was a girl, Princess Mary. She somehow managed to survive the plagues and sicknesses at that time. Although Henry wanted a son
badly and did not get one he still did not blame Catherine for not giving him any boys.
During the time he was with his 1st wife Catherine he was believed to have been with 2 mistresses. He didn't know that Catherine knew he had them
all along and she kept silent about it. Then he met his second wife. Her name was Anne Boleyn. She was the daughter of an English diplomat who
lived in France and served Henry VIII's sister Mary. After King Luis died Mary returned to England and became one of Catherine'sservants. With her,
she was secretly betrothed to Henry Percy. Percy was already promised to another woman and his parents would never except him marrying her.
Wolsey found out and told the King and Anne was banished from the royal court. She held a grudge against Wolsey and never forgave him for it. She
returned in 1524 or 1525. In 1526 Henry began to pursue her. She refused

Greed In King Henry Viii
Imagine a world were you can not say something you may feel without the fear of being the next victim of the execution's, or when your religion is
changed due to the greed of one king and everything you were taught to believe comes tumbling down. During the reign of King Henry VIII from
1491–1547 that's exactly how most people felt. He was a selfish king, corrupted by greed and lust with no sense of empathy towards his people. King
Henry showed he was an awful king over and over again with the "Act of Supremacy", the dislike his people had for him, and earning the title of the
man who executed the most men and women during his time as king.
Henry's reign caused major troubled for England. There was an increase in unemployment, raising the rents and fines for farmers, (Sparknotes) but the
main thing that devastated England and its people was "The Reformation." "The Reformation saw the breaking away of the English Church from the
Catholic Church in Rome in 1534 and the installation of King Henry VIII as its Supreme Head" (Robinson). Henry married Katherine of Aragon in
1527, he had multiple affairs through out the marriage and was desperate for a male heir. They were married for over twenty years until Henry's lustful
eyes meant that of Anne Boleyn. Anne Boleyn drove Henry mad with lust refusing to submit to him until she was Queen of England. Henry VIII tried
and tried again to get Katherine out of picture but many priest were against the divorce and refused to grant it.

Essay on King Henry VIII
King Henry VIII Born the second son of a royal family, Henry Tudor lived a very interesting life. His future was intended to be the head of the
Roman Catholic Church and that fate ended with the death of his brother, Prince Arthur. Henry's majestic life was full of sports, women, and faith.
The young King acceded his father to the throne, married six women, and began the English Reformation when he broke away from the Roman
Catholic Church and created his own religion. On the 28th day of June 1491 at Greenwich Palace, Elizabeth of York gave birth to her third child

A papal dispensation, or permission from the pope, needed to be issued in order for Prince Henry to marry his brother's widow. According to the
book of Leviticus, the marriage was prohibited and "if a brother is to marry the wife of a brother they will remain childless". After the death of her
husband, Catherine denied that her marriage had been consummated and that no dispensation was required. Both England and Spain agreed that a
papal dispensation was needed to assure that the marriage was justifiable. However, even after the papal dispensation was granted, Prince Henry
and his brother's widow did not wed because King Henry VII failed to keep his end of the bargain ("Henry VIII King of England" 2). In 1509,
Henry VII died and Henry, heir apparent, became King of England at eighteen years old. After the death of Henry VII and the accession of the throne
by his son, Henry became Henry VIII and his first assignment was to execute his father's ministers. It wasn't until a few months after the death of his
father that Henry VIII married Catherine of Aragon ("Henry VIII King of England" 2). In the early years of Henry VIII's reign, he was tall and
handsome. Henry VIII was very talented in many things, including playing various musical instruments, being athletic, being a good linguist, dancing,
hunting, and a musical composer among many other attributes (Fry 95). When Henry VIII first came to the throne, he had little to no interest in

Henry VIII Essay
The major endeavours of Henry VIII during his reign over England from 1509 to 1547 included the Field of the Cloth of Gold and the Reformation
of the English Church. The sole reason for these actions is said to be love and seems to be related to the King's obsession for a male heir but other
factors were involved. Paramount among these is the influence of his family in the earlier years of his life. Other reasons such as general insecurities
and competitiveness with other royal houses are also possible motives. To say that the major endeavours of Henry VIII during his reign were
motivated by his obsession with a male heir is not completely accurate as other, more viable, explanations are available.

Henry's grandmother, Margaret Beaufort, like her son, had an extreme impact on the young Henry VIII. She was an influential force at court and
dominated her grandchildren's lives in discipline, religion and education as Wilson investigates in 'Reformer and Tyrant'. There was little love for
Henry in his earlier years as he had not been the heir until his brother died and so in this way his love for women and sport, which would be
reflected in his latter years, grew. Henry VIII's Family was critical in the descisions made towardsthe major endeavours of his reign although they had
been dead for years.
Henry VIII's love of Anne Boleyn was supposedly the catalyst to the reformation of the English church. Henry VIII had not loved Anne but seems to
have been merely infatuated with her as in 1528 when Anne was overcome with the sweating sickness Henry fled terrified of dying without an heir.
The fact that Anne was beheaded for adultery (which constituted treason) three years after her initial coronation on 31st May 1533 was also proof that
love had not caused this major endeavour of Henry's time. Henry was obsessed with an heir after his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, could not produce
a male but only 'several miscarriages, three infants who were either still–born or died immediately after birth, two infants who had died within a few
weeks of birth and one girl' . He

King Henry VIII was a king of England was born June 28, 1491 in the Greenwich palace. He was the second son and third child of King Henry VII

King Henry VIII He is a womanizer that cannot stay faithful to save his life! That is what many people think about King Henry VIII, but he was so
much more. He was both a Visionary Leader and an Unethical Leader when he transformed his country during the English Reformation. In my first
main point, King Henry VIII displayed two lesson principles as a Visionary Leader. He was a Creator from the Team Dynamics lesson when he
created his plan for change. Then he practiced Management–by–Exception–Active as a transactional leader in the Full Range Leadership lesson when
he rewarded or punished members for their actions. In my second main point, King Henry VIII displayed two lesson principles as an Unethical Leader.

King Henry VIII is famous for cutting ties with the Catholic Church and standing up the Church of England with himself as the only leader, under
god. When he brainstormed this idea, he filled the role of a Creator as seen in the Team Dynamics lesson. The Thomas N. Barnes Center for
Enlisted Education [BCEE] (2016) states, a "Creator" exhibits certain behaviors like "May act impulsively, letting your feelings guide actions,
decisions, or behaviors" and "often generate fresh, original concepts and new ideas in ways that defy generally accepted structures or rules" (p. 8).
His actions clearly describe the characteristics of a Creator when he defied the social norm of the time and let his feelings guide his actions. If he did
not fill this role, to create the plan, his country would not have transformed. His effective use of this role supports my claim that he is a Visionary
Leader. Additionally, King Henry VIII's behavior told me he used the Management
–by–Exception–Active behavior component as a transactional leader,
according to the Full Range Leadership lesson. He is notorious for being very generous to those that pleased him and ruthless to those that fell out of
his favor. As I learned from our course, "Transactional Leadership" is "reinforcing desired follower behavior through rewards or consequences."
(BCEE, 2016, p. 7) I definitely think he took an active role in

King Henry VIII King Henry VIII ruled over England during the 16th century and he was born into royalty. King Henry VIII was born on June

Henry VIII's Reformation Essay
Henry VIII's Reformation
In 1529 Henry VIII started to reform the Catholic Church in England, however there are different opinions as to why he began these controversial
changes. The orthodox view concurs that there was a vast anti–clerical feeling in 16th century England; the corrupt church was unpopular with the
masses. However the revisionist view claims that the reformation was actually due to politics. Henry needed a male heir and therefore needed a
divorce. The needs and wants of the masses were not taken into consideration. In this essay I am going to look at England pre–reformation and reach
my own opinion of whether or not England was actually in need of a reformation in 1529....show more content...
But were the clergy really that bad, and if they were would people not have done anything about it? In the diocese of Lincoln, which had 1,006
individual parishes, they only had 25 complaints of sexual misconduct for the whole year. This is a low figure, which proves that the deficiencies of the
clergy have either been fiercely exaggerated or that people didn't have a problem with the incidents and therefore didn't report them. The interesting fact
is that after the reformation, the number of complaints rose. Surely this suggests that it was the reformation that caused the anti–clericalism and not the
other way round.
Many laypeople did see the clergy, as greedy and excessive, people were growing discontented with hypocritical clergy such as Wolsey. Wolsey
was 10x richer than his nearest rival even though he was the son of a butcher; many people found this deceitful, after all when ordained he would
have taken a pledge of poverty. He would also have taken a pledge of chastity, yet he had a mistress. Despite his great power within the church, he
actually did very little for the religion. He became a symbol of everything that was wrong with the church and we know that many influential people
didn't like him, such as Thomas Howard. However Wolsey was only one man within the church and many of

14.What is the function of the Prologue and the Epilogue?
The prologue and the epilogue Sets the tone and the genre of the play. It also shows the audience what they expect and how to see certain type of
characters. For example in the prologue it starts with
"I come no more to make you laugh: things now,
That bear a weighty and a serious brow,
Sad, high, and working, full of state and woe,
Such noble scenes as draw the eye to flow,

Impact Of King Henry Viii

  • 1. Impact Of King Henry Viii King Henry VIII, the second son of King Henry VII, was born at Greenwich, England in 1491. He succeeded the throne upon the death of his brother King Arthur in 1509. He married six wives in the hopes of getting a son as he could be the heir to the throne and become the next king of England. His first two wives failed to do so, but his third wife Jane Seymour, had given birth to a son and he was later named Edward VI. He then married three more wives, and his last wife Catherine of Parr, outlived King Henry who died in 1548. King Henry VIII was an tremendously important leader as he had greatly impacted the Renaissance by starting the English Reformation, the union between England and Wales, and he patronized the arts and literature. The religious reformation took place in king Henry's reign. He took away the roman Catholicism from England, and replaced it with the...show more content... King Henry's wife Catherine of Aragon was unable to give Henry a son, and also the fact that King Henry fell in love with Anne Boleyn drove him to get a divorce from Catherine. He requested that the Pope give him a divorce so he could re–marry, however it was unethical to Catholics to get a divorce, the Roman Catholic Church did not allow it. King Henry then went to the Archbishop of Canterbury to grant him the divorce, but William Warham didn't agree. Matters were getting worse as Anne was pregnant, Henry needed to marry her or else the child wouldn't be legitimate. However, King Henry was lucky, and William Warham had died, so he appointed Thomas Cranmer to be the next Archbishop and he gave King Henry the divorce. In 1534, two years after the divorce, the Act of Supremacy took place, and this was caused the break from the Roman Catholic Church, and Henry became the supreme head of the Church of England. This caused King Henry to gain a lot more power than he already had. After a while in around 1536, the dissolution of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. King Henry Viii Essay King Henry VIII Henry VIII (born 1491, ruled 1509–1547). The second son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York was one of England's strongest and least popular monarchs. He was born at Greenwich on June 28, 1491. The first English ruler to be educated under the influence of the Renaissance, he was a gifted scholar, linguist, composer, and musician. As a youth he was gay and handsome, skilled in all manner of athletic games, but in later life he became coarse and fat. When his elder brother, Arthur, died (1502), he became heir apparent. He succeeded his father on the throne in 1509, and soon thereafter he married Arthur's young widow, Catherine of Aragon. During the first 20 years of his reign he left the shaping of policies largely in the...show more content... In the northern part of the kingdom the people rose in rebellion in behalf of the monks, but the Pilgrimage of Grace, as it was called, was put down. Although Henry reformed the government of the church, he refused to allow any changes to be made in its doctrines. Before his divorce he had opposed the teachings of Martin Luther in a book that had gained for him from the pope the title Defender of the Faith––a title the monarch of England still bears. After the separation from Rome he persecuted with equal severity the Catholics who adhered to the government of Rome and the Protestants who rejected its doctrines. Henry was married six times. Anne Boleyn bore the king one child, who became Elizabeth I. Henry soon tired of Anne and had her put to death. A few days later he married a third wife, Jane Seymour. She died in a little more than a year, after having given birth to the future Edward VI. A marriage was then contracted with a German princess, Anne of Cleves, whom the king had been led to believe to be very beautiful. When he saw her he discovered that he had been tricked, and he promptly divorced this wife and beheaded Thomas Cromwell, the minister who had arranged the marriage. Henry's fifth wife, Catherine Howard, was sent to the block for misconduct. In 1543 he married his sixth wife, the tactful and pious Catherine Parr. Catherine, who survived Henry, lived to marry her fourth husband. During Henry's reign Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Why Is King Henry Viii Important King Henry VIII of England was desperate for ultimate power and for his name to be carried on throughout generations. He changed world history by beginning the separation of the English government from the church hoping to establish the concept of secular governments. Henry Tudor was born on June 28, 1491 in the Greenwich Palace. He is the son of Henry VII of England and Elizabeth York. After his father's death, Henry became known as king of England. He married six different women (Catherine Parr, Catherine Howard, Anne of Cleves, Jane Seymour,Anne Boleyn, and Catherine of Aragon) in the time of his reign. His marriages are most familiar in the mnemonic device, "divorced, beheaded, died /divorced, beheaded, survived", talking about his wives. Henry had six siblings, yet only three survived: Arthur, Margaret, and Mary. Arthur was expected to take the throne considering he is older than Henry, but he died at the age of 15, four months after his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. Henry was offered to the family alliance of Spain by his father to Arthur's widow. At the age of 17, he had married Catherine. King Henry was only a teenager when taking the throne, not even an adult. He had a short attention span and no inclination to accomplish any hard work. Henry had known about all the issues and new information...show more content... Henry was Roman Catholic and Roman Catholic's believed in marriage for life, this put him in a tough position. The pope could excommunicate him, meaning his soul could never get to Heaven. Henry had the Archbishop grant him a divorce so he could marry Anne Boleyn. He declared himself as the supreme head of the Church of England after the Christian church separated, in 1534, by the Act of Parliament. This made the church separated from the pope and not under Rome's power anymore. This started the English Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Henry Viii Analysis Though Henry VIII was alive over 500 years ago, the portrait of Henry VIII by Hans Holbein is still deceivingly intimidating and has been described as "the best bit of propaganda ever" (Wilson, 2009). It is evident through the use of the elements in the portrait that Henry VIII planned this portrait to make the viewer feel abashed and powerless in its presence. Whether the portrait is similar to the real Henry VIII, we may never know, however, we can see through the elements of this portrait how Henry wanted to be perceived. The elements of the expensive clothing and jewellery, as well as the luxurious furnishings in the background, show Henry's royalty and superiority. • 7. King Henry Viii's Monarchy In Medieval England During the Medieval era, supreme Papal authority was law and controlled all matters of, not only religion but also of state and societal matters. The infamous King Henry VIII was the second monarch in the Tudor dynasty who controversially introduced divorce and broke England for the Roman Catholic religion. Prior to the paradigm shift beginning the English Reformation of the 16th century in which the Church of England broke away from the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church, King Henry VIII was one of the Catholic faith's most ardent enthusiasts. In a dissertation he publicly excoriated Martin Luther and his reformist followers in relation to the Lutheran schism. Ironically, in recognition of Henry's religious devoutness Pope Leo X awarded the King with "Fidei Defensor" or, Defender of the Faith. Barely a decade later, Henry led his own schism and created a new paradigm of Church and State as one. His lack of a male heir and an increasing infatuation with Anne Boleyn led to convincing himself that his mostly–barren marriage to Catherine of Aragon, his brother's widow, was a great biblical...show more content... In 1521 he wrote an execration of the German Protestant Martin Luther, stating the reformist as "A venomous serpent, a pernicious plague, infernal wolf, an infectious soul, a detestable trumpeter of pride, calumnies and schism." After the death of Henry's brother, Arthur, Pope Julius II issued an ecclesiastic dispensation allowing the marriage of Henry to Catherine; Henry disputed that no pope could sanction contrarily to the law of God. By 1530 Henry's only legitimate heir was Mary, and was justifiably concerned about the political consequences of leaving only a female heir. In this period, people believed it unnatural for women to rule over men. At best a female ruler meant an assailed reign, at worst turmoil and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Henry VIII was witty, highly educated, and had a love for music. Despite being good–natured, Henry knew how to get what he wanted no matter the cost. Overall, Henry VIII was well liked by his people and was determined to accomplish great things throughout his reign and lifetime. The second son of King Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, Henry VIII was born on June 28, 1491 at Greenwich Palace. He had 6 siblings, but only 3 survived. Their names were Arthur, Margaret, and Mary. The final years of his reign, Henry dealt with great physical decline along with an increasing desire to appear all–powerful. He continued with fruitless and expensive campaigns against Scotland and France. In 1540, Henry VIII got married yet again to a teenage girl named Catherine Howard. The marriage was short lived, and Catherine was executed in 1542 for adultery and treason because of an alleged affair with Henry's courtier, Francis Dereham. • 9. Essay about Henry VIII Henry VIII From any point of view the destruction of the English monasteries by Henry VIII must be regarded as one of the great events of the sixteenth century. They were looked upon in England, at the time of Henry's breach with Rome, as one of the great bulwarks of the papal system. The monks had been called "the great standing army of Rome." One of the first practical results of the assumption of the highest spiritual powers by the king was the supervision by royal decree of the ordinary episcopal visitations, and the appointment of a layman –– Thomas Cromwell –– as the king's vicar–general in spirituals, with special authority to visit the monastic houses, and to bring them into line with the new order of things. This was in ...show more content... It must have been felt, however, by the astute Cromwell, who is credited with the first conception of the design, that to succeed, a project such as this must be sustained by strong yet simple reasons calculated to appeal to the popular mind. Some decent pretext had to be found for presenting the proposed measure of suppression and confiscation to the nation, and it can hardly now be doubted that the device of blackening the characters of the monks and nuns was deliberately resorted to. The visitation opened apparently in the summer of 1535, although the visitatorial powers of the bishops were not suspended until the eighteenth of the following September. Preachers were moreover commissioned to go over the country in the early autumn, in order, by their invectives, to educate public opinion against the monks. These pulpit orators were of three sorts: "railers", who declaimed against the religious as "hypocrites, sorcerers, and idle drones, etc."; "preachers", who said the monks "made the land unprofitable"; and those who told the people that, "if the abbeys went down, the king would never want any taxes again." This last was a favourite argument of Cranmer, in his sermons at St. Paul's Cross. Greed In King Henry Viii Imagine a world were you can not say something you may feel without the fear of being the next victim of the execution's, or when your religion is changed due to the greed of one king and everything you were taught to believe comes tumbling down. During the reign of King Henry VIII from 1491–1547 that's exactly how most people felt. He was a selfish king, corrupted by greed and lust with no sense of empathy towards his people. King Henry showed he was an awful king over and over again with the "Act of Supremacy", the dislike his people had for him, and earning the title of the man who executed the most men and women during his time as king. Henry's reign caused major troubled for England. There was an increase in unemployment, raising the rents and fines for farmers, (Sparknotes) but the main thing that devastated England and its people was "The Reformation." "The Reformation saw the breaking away of the English Church from the Catholic Church in Rome in 1534 and the installation of King Henry VIII as its Supreme Head" (Robinson). Henry married Katherine of Aragon in 1527, he had multiple affairs through out the marriage and was desperate for a male heir. • 13. Essay on King Henry VIII King Henry VIII Born the second son of a royal family, Henry Tudor lived a very interesting life. His future was intended to be the head of the Roman Catholic Church and that fate ended with the death of his brother, Prince Arthur. Henry's majestic life was full of sports, women, and faith. The young King acceded his father to the throne, married six women, and began the English Reformation when he broke away from the Roman Catholic Church and created his own religion. On the 28th day of June 1491 at Greenwich Palace, Elizabeth of York gave birth to her third child Henry Tudor. A papal dispensation, or permission from the pope, needed to be issued in order for Prince Henry to marry his brother's widow. According to the book of Leviticus, the marriage was prohibited and "if a brother is to marry the wife of a brother they will remain childless". After the death of her husband, Catherine denied that her marriage had been consummated and that no dispensation was required. Both England and Spain agreed that a papal dispensation was needed to assure that the marriage was justifiable. However, even after the papal dispensation was granted, Prince Henry and his brother's widow did not wed because King Henry VII failed to keep his end of the bargain ("Henry VIII King of England" 2). In 1509, Henry VII died and Henry, heir apparent, became King of England at eighteen years old. After the death of Henry VII and the accession of the throne by his son, Henry became Henry VIII and his first assignment was to execute his father's ministers. It wasn't until a few months after the death of his father that Henry VIII married Catherine of Aragon ("Henry VIII King of England" 2). In the early years of Henry VIII's reign, he was tall and handsome. Henry VIII was very talented in many things, including playing various musical instruments, being athletic, being a good linguist, dancing, hunting, and a musical composer among many other attributes (Fry 95). • 14. Henry VIII Essay The major endeavours of Henry VIII during his reign over England from 1509 to 1547 included the Field of the Cloth of Gold and the Reformation of the English Church. The sole reason for these actions is said to be love and seems to be related to the King's obsession for a male heir but other factors were involved. Paramount among these is the influence of his family in the earlier years of his life. Other reasons such as general insecurities and competitiveness with other royal houses are also possible motives. To say that the major endeavours of Henry VIII during his reign were motivated by his obsession with a male heir is not completely accurate as other, more viable, explanations are available. The influence of Henry VIII's family...show more content... Henry's grandmother, Margaret Beaufort, like her son, had an extreme impact on the young Henry VIII. She was an influential force at court and dominated her grandchildren's lives in discipline, religion and education as Wilson investigates in 'Reformer and Tyrant'. There was little love for Henry in his earlier years as he had not been the heir until his brother died and so in this way his love for women and sport, which would be reflected in his latter years, grew. Henry VIII's Family was critical in the descisions made towardsthe major endeavours of his reign although they had been dead for years. Henry VIII's love of Anne Boleyn was supposedly the catalyst to the reformation of the English church. Henry VIII had not loved Anne but seems to have been merely infatuated with her as in 1528 when Anne was overcome with the sweating sickness Henry fled terrified of dying without an heir. The fact that Anne was beheaded for adultery (which constituted treason) three years after her initial coronation on 31st May 1533 was also proof that love had not caused this major endeavour of Henry's time. Henry was obsessed with an heir after his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, could not produce a male but only 'several miscarriages, three infants who were either still–born or died immediately after birth, two infants who had died within a few weeks of birth and one girl' . • 16. Essay On King Henry Viii King Henry VIII He is a womanizer that cannot stay faithful to save his life! That is what many people think about King Henry VIII, but he was so much more. He was both a Visionary Leader and an Unethical Leader when he transformed his country during the English Reformation. In my first main point, King Henry VIII displayed two lesson principles as a Visionary Leader. He was a Creator from the Team Dynamics lesson when he created his plan for change. Then he practiced Management–by–Exception–Active as a transactional leader in the Full Range Leadership lesson when he rewarded or punished members for their actions. King Henry VIII is famous for cutting ties with the Catholic Church and standing up the Church of England with himself as the only leader, under god. When he brainstormed this idea, he filled the role of a Creator as seen in the Team Dynamics lesson. The Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education [BCEE] (2016) states, a "Creator" exhibits certain behaviors like "May act impulsively, letting your feelings guide actions, decisions, or behaviors" and "often generate fresh, original concepts and new ideas in ways that defy generally accepted structures or rules" (p. 8). His actions clearly describe the characteristics of a Creator when he defied the social norm of the time and let his feelings guide his actions. If he did not fill this role, to create the plan, his country would not have transformed. His effective use of this role supports my claim that he is a Visionary Leader. Additionally, King Henry VIII's behavior told me he used the Management –by–Exception–Active behavior component as a transactional leader, according to the Full Range Leadership lesson. He is notorious for being very generous to those that pleased him and ruthless to those that fell out of his favor. As I learned from our course, "Transactional Leadership" is "reinforcing desired follower behavior through rewards or consequences." (BCEE, 2016, p. 7) I definitely think he took an active role in Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 19. Henry VIII's Reformation Essay Henry VIII's Reformation In 1529 Henry VIII started to reform the Catholic Church in England, however there are different opinions as to why he began these controversial changes. The orthodox view concurs that there was a vast anti–clerical feeling in 16th century England; the corrupt church was unpopular with the masses. However the revisionist view claims that the reformation was actually due to politics. Henry needed a male heir and therefore needed a divorce. The needs and wants of the masses were not taken into consideration. In this essay I am going to look at England pre–reformation and reach my own opinion of whether or not England was actually in need of a reformation in 1529....show more content... But were the clergy really that bad, and if they were would people not have done anything about it? In the diocese of Lincoln, which had 1,006 individual parishes, they only had 25 complaints of sexual misconduct for the whole year. This is a low figure, which proves that the deficiencies of the clergy have either been fiercely exaggerated or that people didn't have a problem with the incidents and therefore didn't report them. The interesting fact is that after the reformation, the number of complaints rose. Surely this suggests that it was the reformation that caused the anti–clericalism and not the other way round. Many laypeople did see the clergy, as greedy and excessive, people were growing discontented with hypocritical clergy such as Wolsey. Wolsey was 10x richer than his nearest rival even though he was the son of a butcher; many people found this deceitful, after all when ordained he would have taken a pledge of poverty. He would also have taken a pledge of chastity, yet he had a mistress. Despite his great power within the church, he actually did very little for the religion. He became a symbol of everything that was wrong with the church and we know that many influential people didn't like him, such as Thomas Howard.
