Global Warming Is A Big Issue
We live on a beautiful planet, and it can be the only planet out there that's this beautiful. We have beautiful ocean, gorgeous creatures, and wonderful
places and if we want to keep it like that we have to stop polluting the earth. This planet is the only planet that we know that has life on it and this
planet is are home and we have to keep it clean. Global Warming is a big issue, some people might say it doesn't affect them but in reality it effects
everyone. The amount of dumping, polluting we do on this planet is going to take effect a lot sooner then we think and when it does we might be
done for. Life is precious and we live on this beautiful planet and if we keep polluting on this beautiful planet we are going to lose this planet and
are lives. Global Warming effects everyone, no matter who you are or what you do, you will be effected by global warming. Those that live near
sea will be the first to be effected by the change of the planet. Sea level will rise and the islands that are habitable, the people on those island will
lose their home because there island will be underwater. Andrew Ma, author of Washed away: the threat of global warming state that ''Rising tides will
sink a number of island nations, endangering the lives of thousands upon thousands of citizens''. Thousands of people will lose their home and some
might even lose their families, rising tides will not only affect us human but the animals and coral reef as well. Coral Reef and thousands of

Climate Change : Should We Be Worried? Essay
Climate Change: Should We Be Worried? Global warming is one of the most stressed issues on mainstream media today, behind the war on terror.
Although, should we be worried about it? In this annotated bibliography, the sources consider plenty of information about climate, such as, how it
affects the earth, possible solutions to the energy problem, and proof that global warming is happening and that it is caused by an excess of CO2 in the
atmosphere. For solutions to the problem the sources contemplate nuclear energy, solar energy, and the idea of encouraging innovation and
technological advancements. There is an article that makes the situation more personal by narrowing the group down to a specific region and
describing the consequences they are facing and the steps they are taking to help solve the problem. Reading the sources in this bibliography would
provide a person with a vast amount of information about climate change with a stress on possible solutions and information about them. Biggers, Jeff.
"Iowa's Climate–Change Wisdom." New York Times, November 21, 2015, Opinion sec. Accessed November 29, 2015.
In the article, Biggers states that a majority of the population of Iowa believes global warming is happening. He talks about the steps that are being
taken in Iowa to reduce the use of fossil fuels for energy needs. He also states that the emission of CO2 from fossil fuels is not the only reason for
climate change as the altering of land, and the plants that are on

Argumentative Essay On Global Warming
Global warming, we see it as sad polar bears hopelessly swimming for their lives in the ocean. It's shown as rising sea levels that can washout entire
cities. It even sometimes gets turned into politics but scientifically, what is the definition of global warming? It is the heating up the of Earth, caused
by infrared radiation that gets stuck in our atmosphere because of the increase of CO2 put into the atmosphere. Infrared radiation is electromagnetic
radiation that cannot be seen by the human eye, but we feel it as heat. Seems pretty logical doesn't it? To some it doesn't seem as reasonable. Some
believe global warming isn't a man made problem, but just a cycle of 'weather patterns'. For example, our now president –Donald J. Trump– doesn't
consider climate change to a threat to the inhabitants of earth. Our president also said that global warming is a 'hoax'.
"Snowing in Texas and Louisiana, record setting freezing temperatures throughout the country and beyond.
Global warming is an expensive hoax!"
–Donald J. Trump
This is what many people believe, and this tweet too seems pretty logical to a majority of people. But in 2014 January 29th when Donald J. Trump
posted this tweet, there was record setting freezing temperatures happening nation and worldwide. But also 2014 was one of the top three hottest years
on record. Now that doesn't seem like a 'hoax'.
Humans don't like being wrong. It's embarrassing, uncomfortable to believe something and then be confronted about it. So that's why there's still high
percentage of people who don't believe in the change in climate. People who work with oil companies don't want to acknowledge it because it can
ruin their business. Politicians ignore the problem because it costs money to fix our past mistakes. That fear, people being scared, it makes us shut
down. But we can try ignoring the problem, but the thing about problems is, they can be ignored but they never truly disappear. Weather may feel the
same as every other year, but The whole world is heating up, including our vast oceans.
Tropical hurricanes need to have surface water temperatures to be 26В°C or more for them to form. As our oceans get hotter hurricanes are able to
form farther out in the sea

Global Warming and Climate Change Essay
Global warming and the greenhouse effect are issues discussed by scientists all the time. A natural process that keeps earths temperature at a livable
rate is called the greenhouse effect. The energy from the sun warms up the earth when the rays from the sun are absorbed by greenhouse gasses. The
gasses then become trapped in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane and nitrous oxide are the most common greenhouse gasses.
Greenhouse gases cause the radiant heat of the sun to be trapped in the Earths lower atmosphere which causes global warming. If there weren't any
greenhouse gasses, the earth would be really cold due to very little sun rays being absorbed on the earth. Global warming can and...show more content...
Every time the temperature keeps rising, the more carbon dioxide will be released. When this process gets going, it is very hard to keep in control.
Methane is another greenhouse gas. Methane is a greenhouse gas whose molecules absorb heat trying to escape to space. Natural sources include
wetlands, swamps and marshes, termites, and oceans. (Methane) Methane gases are released into the atmosphere. Atmospheric methane has doubled
since the Industrial Revolution and has "contributed 20 percent to the enhancement of the greenhouse effect, second only to carbon dioxide".
(Methane) A major effect of global warming is there will be higher temperatures and it will affect how the water cycle works. Places on the earth
will receive more rain than others. There will be a great amount of evaporation going on from the rivers, lakes and oceans due to a increase in the
temperature. This could be a good thing for some people needing rain and a bad thing for other people who get to much rain. While the temperature
is on the rise there will be greater amount of rains all over. In return with all of the rains this could help farmers. It would extend the growing season
for crops. This would greatly help out the farmers because they would be making more money. While this is the positive side of the rain, this could
also hurt the farmers. There are some crops that out there that will die with to much rain. There

Global warming is the process in which the Earth's temperature starts increasing. This happens because industry, fossil fuels, agricultural processes
caused by human, natural, and other gas emissions, this factors increase greenhouse gases, greenhouse gases are made up of carbon dioxide, methane
and nitrous oxide. The greenhouse gases stay in the atmosphere and prevent the suns warming rays to leave the Earth. So the sun's warming rays stay
inside the Earth increasing its average temperature. Global warming isn't the end of the world, it's just a natural process in which the Earth cleans or
rinse organisms.

Lastly many bodies of water become polluted thanks to all the gasses in the atmosphere that mix with the clouds and fall as acid rain polluting rivers,
and lakes and killing many animals. All of theses factors change our daily life and can ruin whole species, and all of this is because of temperature
changes.
Many scientific methods of controlling or lowering the Earth's temperature are being researched; these can also be called geoengineering.
Geoengineering is a method in which scientists can change the levels of greenhouse gases directly or indirectly. Also there could be methods that
prevent greenhouse gasses to be emitted. There have never been any geoengineering solutions done on a global scale since it has to be almost proof
less. But there have been some ideas that are being use on a small scale like the iron fertilization; this is a process in which iron is injected into the
oceans to speed up the reproduction of plankton which breath carbon dioxide and emit oxygen, this is one solution that seems to have the least side
effects thanks to the reason I just presented and also due to that plankton are the base of many marine animals food chain. So this method is being
widely researched to see if it can be done on a global scale. Not only is lowering the levels of gases in the air important, but also lowering the level of
gases we emit, and there have been many scientific breakthroughs like solar energy or cars that run

OPPOSING INTRODUCTION Since Svante Arrhenius of Sweden first expressed his concerns about the anthropogenic effects of carbon dioxide
(CO2) on global warming in the early twentieth century, scientists have been attempting to convince the world's citizens of an inevitable climate
catastrophe. In the 1980s, Al Gore pioneered the politicization and polarization of the issue by co–sponsoring congressional hearings. From this point
forward, government agencies and many climatologists have continued to perpetuate inaccurate claims regarding the energy industry and global
warming (PBS, 2005). By insisting the energy industry's emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere are trapping energy from the sun and
warming the atmosphere, they are grossly ignoring contradictory evidence. It has been well established the earth has a natural, cyclic temperature
trend, though it may not be as clearly defined by atmospheric CO2 concentration as many would argue. For those who still insist anthropogenic
greenhouse gases are the greatest contributor to warming, evidence suggests volcanic activity may be just as likely to blame as the fossil fuel
industry. Supporters of the global warming theory lack sufficiently replicated data to support their claims, and blatantly seem to be ignoring the
historic snowfalls that have fallen on the East Coast over the past several years, as well as the overwhelming evidence of a new ice age in the near
future.

Reflection Paper On Global Warming
In the first day of English 101 Climate Change and Multimedia class, Professor Sheila Tefft assigned the class to write a self–reflection about our
perspective on writing. I wrote that I use recursive strategy, which is writing in the order of a thesis statement, topic sentences, evidence, analysis, and
conclusion. Knowing this approach, I thought I would be successful. However, I encountered more challenges in this class than a success.
I encountered a challenge in the first major assignment, which was writing a research paper after reading Mark Lynas' Six Degrees. In this research
paper, we had to address our opinion on one environmental issue, and I asked myself whether vertical farming could be a potential solution to
stopping deforestation in Brazil. The objective of this writing, according to the syllabus, was to learn how to "summarize, analyze, synthesize, and
evaluate the ideas of others as we [you] undertake a scholarly inquiry to produce our [your] own arguments." I exactly followed this step. I first did a
general research on vertical farming and deforestation in Brazil, analyzed the information, synthesized the main argument, and delivered my thought to
my audience, who are general public and proponents believing vertical farming is the future of agriculture.
The challenge had started when I had changed my opinion from vertical farming can stop deforestation to vertical farming cannot stop deforestation. It
was a struggle to me, as pundits have already proven

Essay on Anthropogenic Global Warming
The issues surrounding Global Warming or Anthropogenic Warming introduce several different hypotheses. One is the Anthropogenic Global Warming
(AGW) hypotheses which has become the most looked at theory. It supports the claim that climate change is due largely in part because of human
activities. It also claims that human activity will eventually bring the world to an end. While the AGW is being argued there is also the issue of what
is called the Kyoto Protocol which many scientists have urged the U.S. government "not to sign", saying that the increase in Greenhouse Gases is a
result of increased atmospheric carbon dioxide caused environmentally. These scientists have signed a petition to stop the Kyoto Protocol on the basis
that there...show more content...
The real issue is how fast it is warming up and this creates debate on "what" is causing it to do so (Global Greenhouse 2011). One of the greatest
arguments about global warming is the history of the Medieval Warm Period (roughly 800 to 1200 AD), which show that the earth had warmed to a
greater extent than we have seen so far. This was a period in which settlement had just begun and large industries had not even been brought into focus
yet. According to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) the increase of post–industrial use in greenhouse gas is not a condition of
natural mechanism; therefore they are stating that the increase in greenhouse gas is created from human activities (Global Greenhouse 2011). The
most potent of these gases are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N20). The IPCC claims that 2/3 of this change comes from
fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum based products and only 1/3 coming from land use such as deforestation and agricultural (Global Greenhouse
2011). Currently our experts rely on the use of satellites and land–based temperature stations which creates the argument that one gives false readings
over the other. The satellites are in fact more reliable than the land–based equipment. The land–based equipment often is contaminated by heat
generated by nearby sources such as cities consequently; the data from these is based on

Essay on The Threat of Global Warming
The Threat of Global Warming
Through the eyes of most scientists, global warming is seen as a very serious and severe threat. The actions taken by humans, such as industry and
consumption of fossil fuels plus the increase in population and agriculture have played a big part in global warming. If something is not done soon the
results could be very bad.
By the middle of the twenty first century, there is evidence that the Earth will be warmer than it has been at any time in human history, and quite
possibly since the end of the dinosaurs, some 65 billion years ago. If we stay at the rate we are now (fossil fuel consumption / growth in population)
then within the next two century the Earth's air might not be fit to breath. Many...show more content...
These gases are carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, nitrous oxide, and water vapor.
The main contributor to the greenhouse effect and global warming is carbon dioxide. The atmosphere contains over 700 billion tons of carbon in the
form of carbon dioxide. Currently, humans burn more than 5 billion tons of fossil fuel carbon each year, all of it going into the atmosphere in the
form of carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide. In addition, deforestation and subsequent burning and decay add another 1.5 billion tons. Scientists feel
that about 40 percent of the carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere is taken up by the oceans or plant growth. The remaining 60 percent stays in
the atmosphere, and is responsible for the .4 to .5 percent yearly growth in carbon dioxide concentrations.
Methane is also another major greenhouse gas that is growing significantly more and more each year. Methane is a gas that is naturally produced from
decomposition of plant material and enteric fermentation in animals. Scientists say that the growth of methane is from a combination of increases in
petroleum, natural gas, coal, rice farming, and increases in the population of domestic farm animals throughout the world. Nitrous oxide is just slightly
increasing each year due to fossil fuel combustion and soil fertilization. Emissions from fossil fuel combustion also react to form ozone in the
troposphere. Ozone acts like

Argumentative Essay On Global Warming
Global warming is the constant increase of temperature in the earth's atmosphere that is caused by the increase of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons,
greenhouse gases and many other pollutants. Chlorofluorocarbons are any type of compounds of carbon, hydrogen, chlorine, and fluorine which are
harmful to the ozone layer. Global warming can affect many things, one example is the rising of temperature which can result in different types of
disasters like storms, heat waves, floods, and droughts. Global warming also causes Higher death rates, Dirtier air, Higher wildlife extinction rates,
the increase of Acidic Oceans, and Higher seas levels. In this essay, I will provide information that will show how harmful global warming can be to
not only the earth but to humans and animals, and what we can do to prevent it from increasing.
Greenhouse gases are compounds in the atmosphere that can trap and hold extra heat, which increases the temperature in the atmosphere. Greenhouse
gases is the cause of the greenhouse effect that leads up to global warming. The greenhouse effect is the trapping of the sun's warmth in the lower
atmosphere that is due to the visible radiation from the sun. The solar radiation reaches the Earth's atmosphere, then the rest of the sun's energy is
absorbed by the oceans and lands which result in the heating of the Earth. After that the heat from the Earth goes towards space, some of the heat is
trapped in the atmosphere by greenhouses gases which make the Earth warm enough to tolerate living life. The burning of fossil fuels and land
clearing start to increase the number of greenhouse gases which travels into the atmosphere. The result of trapping extra heat cause the Earth's
temperature to rise. Scientist's has proven that the constant increase of heat in the atmosphere is caused by humans. The reason humans are proven
guilty for the increase of global warming is because of the amount of carbon that is put into the atmosphere. Carbon is released from burning coal, oil,
and gas or cutting down and burning forests. Carbon (CO2) is known as the main source of heat–trapping gas which is mainly responsible for the
increase of warming over the years. The removal of trees is another cause of global

Argumentative Essay About Going Green
For centuries, the issue of global warming has been a great concern for citizens in all cultures. Many suggest that becoming environmentally aware is
the solution to preventing this constant climate change in our environment. However, individuals relentlessly dismiss the issue by being nonchalant
and inconsiderate. Furthermore, going green has generated intense controversy: some feel strongly that their individual contribution to society is
worthless; while, others firmly advocate that becoming ecologically aware helps prevent possible changes in the atmosphere, resulting from global
warming. Certainly, going green can prevent climate change in our environment by conserving energy, by reducing the health risks associated with

reduces the chances of developing preventable health problems.
In addition to lessening the risk to people's health, going green will benefit the economy financially. Switching to eco–friendly appliances often results
in lower energy and water costs, which is very beneficial to low income families. By minimizing the cost when conserving energy, most electricity bills
will decrease in amount instead of skyrocketing to insane amounts. Furthermore, limiting the usage of water can reduce many of the water bills.
Ultimately, going green will save several people a great deal of money. Opponents of these views present several arguments. They claim that others will
take the initiative in going green, which is why they believe that there is no need for them to contribute. These opponents believe that climate change is
the cause of weather changes not human beings. Furthermore, most people that agree with the opponents' views believe that one individual
contribution to society is not going to benefit humankind. Also, "an almost mystical faith in a technological "holy grail" blinds many consumers from
seeing that the "Kingdom of Heaven

Essay on Global Warming: Is it a Real Problem?
Think of a person riding downhill on a bicycle that has no brake on the wheels, and who knows that there is a large glass plate placed vertically
somewhere across the way. The person is sensible enough to predict that if he continues to enjoy this ever accelerating ride, he is going to collide
against the invisible glass plate in a short interval. But he is so deeply content on this ride that even after the knowledge of a certain accident ahead
unless he jumps out of the bicycle, he is willing to go a bit farther for his personal fulfillment. Today, we face a similar situation in which we are
seemingly unwilling to help ourselves out of a possibly disastrous problem of global temperature rise.
For as long as human beings have been in...show more content...
We can also rephrase this statement by stating that excessive greenhouse gases would inviteglobal warming.
Carbon dioxide is the greenhouse gas naturally found in the atmosphere. Since the advent of the Industrial Revolution in the 1700s, humans have
devised many inventions that burn fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gases, which, along with other human activities such as clearing land for
agriculture or urban settlements, help some of these greenhouse gases accumulate in the atmosphere that in turn trap more heat radiation in the
atmosphere causing the Earth's climate to become warmer than it would naturally (Mastrandrea). This unnatural phenomenon is termed global warming
by scientists and they blame it for an increase in the Earth's surface temperature of about 0.6В°C (about 1В°F) over the last 100 years (Mastrandrea).
So, is the temperature really rising? This simple answer to this question is "Yes." According to Watson, we now have strong evidences that the climate
is changing and that human activities were the primary cause of the changes during the 20th century (24). He asserts that the temperature increase in
the 20th century was greater than that for any other century during the last 1000 years and the temperatures now are warmer than at any time during
this period (26). Johns acclaim that the rise in CO2 levels from 280 parts per million around 1700s to 380 p.m. Today is the major factor

Global Warming Argumentative Essay
Global Warming: Myth or Fact? The Global Warming theory has become increasingly popular over the past few years. Citizens of the world are being
encouraged to be more environmentally conscious by others including politicians, celebrities, and world organizations. The problem with the theory
lies in the fact that it has become more and more controversial as it gains publicity and attention. The basic concept behind this theory is that the earth
was made with a balance of "greenhouse gasses". These gasses are naturally occurring within the atmosphere and they essentially make the planet
habitable by keeping it warm. When the world became more industrialized, the amount of carbon dioxide that was being emitted into the atmosphere

The more people habituating the planet, the more potential there is for emission of greenhouse gasses. In short, the basis of this argument other than
years of documented research and scientific discovery is what harm could we do by being more conservative in our use of energy and other entities
that produce more than their share of greenhouse gasses? The answer as it stands now is none. The harmful effects of ignoring this crisis are all but
proven fact. The problem that the pro– global warming theorists have created is that of social standing and little else. While there may be scientific
backing to support some of the theory, the media presents the problem with great sensationalism. Global warming and energy conservation has thus
become a trend and losses some of its validity through this. The scare tactics used by the media to "promote awareness" are just that, a linguistic ploy to
gain favor. "Awareness of this global threat reinforced public concern and environmental problems and thereby provided environmental activists,
scientists, and policy makers with new momentum in their efforts to promote environmental protection." (McCright, 2000) This statement draws line
to the potential benefits that would be received if the pro–global warming theorists were to draw enough attention to the issue. Driven by social
empowerment and conviction to environmental protection, these activists misrepresent the actual threat and paint it as being much more

Global warming is an increase in the earth's temperature due to fossil fuels, industry, and agricultural processes caused by human, natural, and other gas
emissions. (Melissa Phillips). This results in an increased emission of greenhouse gases. (Caroline Quatman). Short–wave solar radiation sinks into the
Earth's atmosphere and warms its surface; while longwave infrared radiation emitted by earth's surface is absorbed, and then re–emitted by trace gases.

These gases trap heat and cause the greenhouse effect, rising global temperatures.(Heidi Sterrett).
Human activities add to the levels of these gasses, causing more problems. The burning of solid waste, fossil fuels, and wood products are major
causes. Automobiles, heat from homes and businesses, and factories are responsible for about 80% of today's carbon dioxide emissions, 25% of
methane, and 20% of the nitrous oxide emissions. The increase in agriculture, deforestation, landfills, industrial production, and mining contribute a
significant share of emissions too The gases released into the atmosphere are tracked by emission inventories. An emission inventory counts the amount
of air pollutants discharged into the atmosphere. These emission inventories are used by many organizations. NASA and meteorologists also use
them.(Heidi Sterrett).
The Centers for Disease Control have been involved in studying global warming's effect on human health. Global warming is a danger to a human's
health. Its affect on climate can adversely affect humans. Plagues have been attributed to global warming. An increase in temperature can result in a
longer life cycle for diseases or the agents spreading them. Living in a warm area makes egg production a quicker process. Global warming will lead
to more precipitation, which enables infectious diseases to be more easily contracted and spread.

Essay about Global Warming is Real
There are many different views on whether global warming is actually real or not and possible catastrophic damage it causes. It is a big issue in

higher gas prices are, the more money they waste." (Bily 63) If you don't think SUVs contribute obviously you're wrong, with the facts stated
obviously SUVs have a big contribution because the use a high amount of gas and emit a lot of carbon dioxide. Solar activity is another factor that

Essay on The Global Warming Debate
The concept of global warming has become one of the most widely debated and controversial topics of our time. Scientists learned long ago that the
earth's climate has powerfully shaped the history of humanity. However, it is only in the past few decades that research has revealed that humans have
a significant influence on the climate as well. A growing body of scientific evidence indicates that since 1950, the world's climate has been warming,
primarily as a result of emissions from the burning of fossil fuels and the destruction of tropical forests. More importantly, an article titled "Global
Warming" published in the New York Times shows that methane, a gas that is emitted from landfills, livestock and oil gas facilities,...show more

Sources for this paper include articles, books, and websites. Terms will be defined as the arguments are presented. Scientists who believe in global
warming say that global warming is the result of carbon dioxide and other air pollutants collecting in the atmosphere like a thickening blanket, trapping
the sun's heat which causes the earth to heat up. In fact, according to Amber Jenkins, site editor for "Global Warming: Vital Signs of the Planet,"
meteorologists at NASA (National Aeronautics & Space Administration) have reported that "Earth is the hottest it has been in at least 400 years, and
possibly even the last 2,000 years. Studies indicate that the average global temperature has increased by approximately 0.5–1.0В°F (0.3–0.6В°C) over
the last century" (Jenkins). However, CEI scientists have reported that there is no proof that rising temperatures are linked to global warming. The
Earth has gone through various periods of cooling and warming throughout its history. The rising temperatures are simply the Earth warming itself up
from the previous ice age (Competitive Enterprise Institute). Contrasting with the virtual world of computer simulations, the real world presents a very
different picture. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) website even states that: During the last 2,000 years, there have been departures from
the stability of earth's natural course

Global Warming Is A Real Problem Essay
Climate change is something everyone in the world should work to make bigger priority. Human beings do not realize that living the way they want,
instead of the way they should, is actually damaging the planet and its climate. The main thing being changed by the people that inhabit the earth is the
earth's atmosphere. Our earth is comparable to that of a giant greenhouse, in which the earth's atmosphere is comparable to that of the glass
surroundings of an actual greenhouse. Greenhouse Gases are what trap the suns heat along the surface of the earth to keep us warm at night.
"Ninety–seven percent of climate scientists agree that humans have changed the earth's atmosphere in dramatic ways over the past two centuries,
resulting in global warming". (What is the Greenhouse Effect?) Global warming is a real problem, and it has real consequences. The slow increase in
the earth's temperature is called global warming. It is my opinion that this is because of the way people all over the earth go about their daily living.
Global warming and climate change can be eliminated by upgrading building infrastructures over a period of time. Stopping the use of fossil fuels
such as coal, oil and natural gas will also have a huge impact on reducing global warming and climate change. Deforestation is also aiding in the
destruction of our planet by destroying millions of acres of land a year, and leaving the earth gasping for more air. Despite the bleak outlook of our
children's children future,

Thesis Statement : Global Warming
Thesis Statement: Global warming is a growing concern of scientists and researchers who believe that it is a serious problem for our planet. The
concerns and research have also been questioned and have even been called myths. Millions of people find themselves affected by these weather
pattern changes and are concerned for their futures. Activists on both sides of the argument are very passionate and not afraid to attack each other in
every way they can. There are many questions that are still not answered, however, we continue to see drastic weather changes to Earth. We must go
beyond the arguments and learn as much as we can to stop what could possibly lead to the destruction of our planet, our way of life and our future.
Global warming is concerned with an average increase in the temperature of the atmosphere and the increase in the Earth 's surface temperature
primarily due to the emission of greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels. As for the processes of global warming, they can occur from a
variety of causes. The causes include the things that are concerned with natural and human factors.
Some people believe that global warming is a myth or hoax. They believe that global warming is being used to generate fear and panic and that those
behind this movement are using it to control people 's lives and for financial gain. "Within the community of scientists and others concerned about

Greenhouse Effect Essay
I have noticed that climate change has been a big issue this year. I think it's very important to talk about Global warming and be aware of the causes
of it. We all should want to take care of this earth, because we are the ones living here. We should make people more aware of the greenhouse effect
and how it can affect us.
Consequently, in September of this year, Florida had some devastating hurricanes that wiped out thousands of homes, businesses, and schools.
According to Monmonier's book, "Coast lines: how mapmakers frame the world and chart environmental change," He predicted that the sea levels
were rising at an unprecedented rate, causing flooding around the world, including the coast of Florida and California (Monmonier pg. 131). The two
main causes of global sea level rise are thermal expansion of the warming of the oceans and the lack of land–based ice due to melting. Due to global
warming, our ice caps are melting, and our ocean temperatures are steadily increasing. (Monmonier pg. 131). So how can we help?
Second is air pollution, this is one of the biggest problems we are having today. Air pollution is caused by everything we do today. In theEarth's
atmosphere, a process called the Greenhouse effect occurs, it acts as a shield to trap in the heat from the sun, so it prevents the heat from going back
into space. The Greenhouse effect occurs in nature as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. People say, "Without the greenhouse effect, the

Global Warming Is A Big Issue

  • 1. Global Warming Is A Big Issue We live on a beautiful planet, and it can be the only planet out there that's this beautiful. We have beautiful ocean, gorgeous creatures, and wonderful places and if we want to keep it like that we have to stop polluting the earth. This planet is the only planet that we know that has life on it and this planet is are home and we have to keep it clean. Global Warming is a big issue, some people might say it doesn't affect them but in reality it effects everyone. The amount of dumping, polluting we do on this planet is going to take effect a lot sooner then we think and when it does we might be done for. Life is precious and we live on this beautiful planet and if we keep polluting on this beautiful planet we are going to lose this planet and are lives. Global Warming effects everyone, no matter who you are or what you do, you will be effected by global warming. Those that live near sea will be the first to be effected by the change of the planet. Sea level will rise and the islands that are habitable, the people on those island will lose their home because there island will be underwater. Andrew Ma, author of Washed away: the threat of global warming state that ''Rising tides will sink a number of island nations, endangering the lives of thousands upon thousands of citizens''. Thousands of people will lose their home and some might even lose their families, rising tides will not only affect us human but the animals and coral reef as well. • 2. Climate Change : Should We Be Worried? Essay Climate Change: Should We Be Worried? Global warming is one of the most stressed issues on mainstream media today, behind the war on terror. Although, should we be worried about it? In this annotated bibliography, the sources consider plenty of information about climate, such as, how it affects the earth, possible solutions to the energy problem, and proof that global warming is happening and that it is caused by an excess of CO2 in the atmosphere. For solutions to the problem the sources contemplate nuclear energy, solar energy, and the idea of encouraging innovation and technological advancements. There is an article that makes the situation more personal by narrowing the group down to a specific region and describing the consequences they are facing and the steps they are taking to help solve the problem. Reading the sources in this bibliography would provide a person with a vast amount of information about climate change with a stress on possible solutions and information about them. Biggers, Jeff. "Iowa's Climate–Change Wisdom." New York Times, November 21, 2015, Opinion sec. Accessed November 29, 2015. In the article, Biggers states that a majority of the population of Iowa believes global warming is happening. He talks about the steps that are being taken in Iowa to reduce the use of fossil fuels for energy needs. He also states that the emission of CO2 from fossil fuels is not the only reason for climate change as the altering of land, and the plants that are on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Argumentative Essay On Global Warming Global warming, we see it as sad polar bears hopelessly swimming for their lives in the ocean. It's shown as rising sea levels that can washout entire cities. It even sometimes gets turned into politics but scientifically, what is the definition of global warming? It is the heating up the of Earth, caused by infrared radiation that gets stuck in our atmosphere because of the increase of CO2 put into the atmosphere. Infrared radiation is electromagnetic radiation that cannot be seen by the human eye, but we feel it as heat. Seems pretty logical doesn't it? To some it doesn't seem as reasonable. Some believe global warming isn't a man made problem, but just a cycle of 'weather patterns'. For example, our now president –Donald J. Trump– doesn't consider climate change to a threat to the inhabitants of earth. Our president also said that global warming is a 'hoax'. "Snowing in Texas and Louisiana, record setting freezing temperatures throughout the country and beyond. Global warming is an expensive hoax!" –Donald J. Trump This is what many people believe, and this tweet too seems pretty logical to a majority of people. But in 2014 January 29th when Donald J. Trump posted this tweet, there was record setting freezing temperatures happening nation and worldwide. But also 2014 was one of the top three hottest years on record. Now that doesn't seem like a 'hoax'. Humans don't like being wrong. It's embarrassing, uncomfortable to believe something and then be confronted about it. So that's why there's still high percentage of people who don't believe in the change in climate. People who work with oil companies don't want to acknowledge it because it can ruin their business. Politicians ignore the problem because it costs money to fix our past mistakes. That fear, people being scared, it makes us shut down. But we can try ignoring the problem, but the thing about problems is, they can be ignored but they never truly disappear. Weather may feel the same as every other year, but The whole world is heating up, including our vast oceans. Tropical hurricanes need to have surface water temperatures to be 26В°C or more for them to form. As our oceans get hotter hurricanes are able to form farther out in the sea Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Global Warming and Climate Change Essay Global warming and the greenhouse effect are issues discussed by scientists all the time. A natural process that keeps earths temperature at a livable rate is called the greenhouse effect. The energy from the sun warms up the earth when the rays from the sun are absorbed by greenhouse gasses. The gasses then become trapped in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane and nitrous oxide are the most common greenhouse gasses. Greenhouse gases cause the radiant heat of the sun to be trapped in the Earths lower atmosphere which causes global warming. If there weren't any greenhouse gasses, the earth would be really cold due to very little sun rays being absorbed on the earth. Global warming can and...show more content... Every time the temperature keeps rising, the more carbon dioxide will be released. When this process gets going, it is very hard to keep in control. Methane is another greenhouse gas. Methane is a greenhouse gas whose molecules absorb heat trying to escape to space. Natural sources include wetlands, swamps and marshes, termites, and oceans. (Methane) Methane gases are released into the atmosphere. Atmospheric methane has doubled since the Industrial Revolution and has "contributed 20 percent to the enhancement of the greenhouse effect, second only to carbon dioxide". (Methane) A major effect of global warming is there will be higher temperatures and it will affect how the water cycle works. Places on the earth will receive more rain than others. There will be a great amount of evaporation going on from the rivers, lakes and oceans due to a increase in the temperature. This could be a good thing for some people needing rain and a bad thing for other people who get to much rain. While the temperature is on the rise there will be greater amount of rains all over. In return with all of the rains this could help farmers. It would extend the growing season for crops. This would greatly help out the farmers because they would be making more money. While this is the positive side of the rain, this could also hurt the farmers. There are some crops that out there that will die with to much rain. There Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Global Warming Essay Global warming is the process in which the Earth's temperature starts increasing. This happens because industry, fossil fuels, agricultural processes caused by human, natural, and other gas emissions, this factors increase greenhouse gases, greenhouse gases are made up of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. The greenhouse gases stay in the atmosphere and prevent the suns warming rays to leave the Earth. So the sun's warming rays stay inside the Earth increasing its average temperature. Global warming isn't the end of the world, it's just a natural process in which the Earth cleans or rinse organisms. Now a days the Automobiles, heat from homes and businesses, and factories are responsible for about 80% of today's carbon dioxide...show more content... Lastly many bodies of water become polluted thanks to all the gasses in the atmosphere that mix with the clouds and fall as acid rain polluting rivers, and lakes and killing many animals. All of theses factors change our daily life and can ruin whole species, and all of this is because of temperature changes. Many scientific methods of controlling or lowering the Earth's temperature are being researched; these can also be called geoengineering. Geoengineering is a method in which scientists can change the levels of greenhouse gases directly or indirectly. Also there could be methods that prevent greenhouse gasses to be emitted. There have never been any geoengineering solutions done on a global scale since it has to be almost proof less. But there have been some ideas that are being use on a small scale like the iron fertilization; this is a process in which iron is injected into the oceans to speed up the reproduction of plankton which breath carbon dioxide and emit oxygen, this is one solution that seems to have the least side effects thanks to the reason I just presented and also due to that plankton are the base of many marine animals food chain. So this method is being widely researched to see if it can be done on a global scale. Not only is lowering the levels of gases in the air important, but also lowering the level of gases we emit, and there have been many scientific breakthroughs like solar energy or cars that run Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. OPPOSING INTRODUCTION Since Svante Arrhenius of Sweden first expressed his concerns about the anthropogenic effects of carbon dioxide (CO2) on global warming in the early twentieth century, scientists have been attempting to convince the world's citizens of an inevitable climate catastrophe. In the 1980s, Al Gore pioneered the politicization and polarization of the issue by co–sponsoring congressional hearings. From this point forward, government agencies and many climatologists have continued to perpetuate inaccurate claims regarding the energy industry and global warming (PBS, 2005). By insisting the energy industry's emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere are trapping energy from the sun and warming the atmosphere, they are grossly ignoring contradictory evidence. It has been well established the earth has a natural, cyclic temperature trend, though it may not be as clearly defined by atmospheric CO2 concentration as many would argue. For those who still insist anthropogenic greenhouse gases are the greatest contributor to warming, evidence suggests volcanic activity may be just as likely to blame as the fossil fuel industry. Supporters of the global warming theory lack sufficiently replicated data to support their claims, and blatantly seem to be ignoring the historic snowfalls that have fallen on the East Coast over the past several years, as well as the overwhelming evidence of a new ice age in the near future. • 7. Reflection Paper On Global Warming In the first day of English 101 Climate Change and Multimedia class, Professor Sheila Tefft assigned the class to write a self–reflection about our perspective on writing. I wrote that I use recursive strategy, which is writing in the order of a thesis statement, topic sentences, evidence, analysis, and conclusion. Knowing this approach, I thought I would be successful. However, I encountered more challenges in this class than a success. I encountered a challenge in the first major assignment, which was writing a research paper after reading Mark Lynas' Six Degrees. In this research paper, we had to address our opinion on one environmental issue, and I asked myself whether vertical farming could be a potential solution to stopping deforestation in Brazil. The objective of this writing, according to the syllabus, was to learn how to "summarize, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate the ideas of others as we [you] undertake a scholarly inquiry to produce our [your] own arguments." I exactly followed this step. I first did a general research on vertical farming and deforestation in Brazil, analyzed the information, synthesized the main argument, and delivered my thought to my audience, who are general public and proponents believing vertical farming is the future of agriculture. The challenge had started when I had changed my opinion from vertical farming can stop deforestation to vertical farming cannot stop deforestation. It was a struggle to me, as pundits have already proven Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay on Anthropogenic Global Warming The issues surrounding Global Warming or Anthropogenic Warming introduce several different hypotheses. One is the Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) hypotheses which has become the most looked at theory. It supports the claim that climate change is due largely in part because of human activities. It also claims that human activity will eventually bring the world to an end. While the AGW is being argued there is also the issue of what is called the Kyoto Protocol which many scientists have urged the U.S. government "not to sign", saying that the increase in Greenhouse Gases is a result of increased atmospheric carbon dioxide caused environmentally. These scientists have signed a petition to stop the Kyoto Protocol on the basis that there...show more content... The real issue is how fast it is warming up and this creates debate on "what" is causing it to do so (Global Greenhouse 2011). One of the greatest arguments about global warming is the history of the Medieval Warm Period (roughly 800 to 1200 AD), which show that the earth had warmed to a greater extent than we have seen so far. This was a period in which settlement had just begun and large industries had not even been brought into focus yet. According to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) the increase of post–industrial use in greenhouse gas is not a condition of natural mechanism; therefore they are stating that the increase in greenhouse gas is created from human activities (Global Greenhouse 2011). The most potent of these gases are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N20). The IPCC claims that 2/3 of this change comes from fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum based products and only 1/3 coming from land use such as deforestation and agricultural (Global Greenhouse 2011). Currently our experts rely on the use of satellites and land–based temperature stations which creates the argument that one gives false readings over the other. The satellites are in fact more reliable than the land–based equipment. The land–based equipment often is contaminated by heat generated by nearby sources such as cities consequently; the data from these is based on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay on The Threat of Global Warming The Threat of Global Warming Through the eyes of most scientists, global warming is seen as a very serious and severe threat. The actions taken by humans, such as industry and consumption of fossil fuels plus the increase in population and agriculture have played a big part in global warming. If something is not done soon the results could be very bad. By the middle of the twenty first century, there is evidence that the Earth will be warmer than it has been at any time in human history, and quite possibly since the end of the dinosaurs, some 65 billion years ago. If we stay at the rate we are now (fossil fuel consumption / growth in population) then within the next two century the Earth's air might not be fit to breath. Many...show more content... These gases are carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, nitrous oxide, and water vapor. The main contributor to the greenhouse effect and global warming is carbon dioxide. The atmosphere contains over 700 billion tons of carbon in the form of carbon dioxide. Currently, humans burn more than 5 billion tons of fossil fuel carbon each year, all of it going into the atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide. In addition, deforestation and subsequent burning and decay add another 1.5 billion tons. Scientists feel that about 40 percent of the carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere is taken up by the oceans or plant growth. The remaining 60 percent stays in the atmosphere, and is responsible for the .4 to .5 percent yearly growth in carbon dioxide concentrations. Methane is also another major greenhouse gas that is growing significantly more and more each year. Methane is a gas that is naturally produced from decomposition of plant material and enteric fermentation in animals. Scientists say that the growth of methane is from a combination of increases in petroleum, natural gas, coal, rice farming, and increases in the population of domestic farm animals throughout the world. Nitrous oxide is just slightly increasing each year due to fossil fuel combustion and soil fertilization. Emissions from fossil fuel combustion also react to form ozone in the troposphere. Argumentative Essay On Global Warming Global warming is the constant increase of temperature in the earth's atmosphere that is caused by the increase of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, greenhouse gases and many other pollutants. Chlorofluorocarbons are any type of compounds of carbon, hydrogen, chlorine, and fluorine which are harmful to the ozone layer. Global warming can affect many things, one example is the rising of temperature which can result in different types of disasters like storms, heat waves, floods, and droughts. Global warming also causes Higher death rates, Dirtier air, Higher wildlife extinction rates, the increase of Acidic Oceans, and Higher seas levels. In this essay, I will provide information that will show how harmful global warming can be to not only the earth but to humans and animals, and what we can do to prevent it from increasing. Greenhouse gases are compounds in the atmosphere that can trap and hold extra heat, which increases the temperature in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases is the cause of the greenhouse effect that leads up to global warming. The greenhouse effect is the trapping of the sun's warmth in the lower atmosphere that is due to the visible radiation from the sun. The solar radiation reaches the Earth's atmosphere, then the rest of the sun's energy is absorbed by the oceans and lands which result in the heating of the Earth. After that the heat from the Earth goes towards space, some of the heat is trapped in the atmosphere by greenhouses gases which make the Earth warm enough to tolerate living life. The burning of fossil fuels and land clearing start to increase the number of greenhouse gases which travels into the atmosphere. The result of trapping extra heat cause the Earth's temperature to rise. Scientist's has proven that the constant increase of heat in the atmosphere is caused by humans. The reason humans are proven guilty for the increase of global warming is because of the amount of carbon that is put into the atmosphere. Carbon is released from burning coal, oil, and gas or cutting down and burning forests. Carbon (CO2) is known as the main source of heat–trapping gas which is mainly responsible for the increase of warming over the years. The removal of trees is another cause of global Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Argumentative Essay About Going Green For centuries, the issue of global warming has been a great concern for citizens in all cultures. Many suggest that becoming environmentally aware is the solution to preventing this constant climate change in our environment. However, individuals relentlessly dismiss the issue by being nonchalant and inconsiderate. Furthermore, going green has generated intense controversy: some feel strongly that their individual contribution to society is worthless; while, others firmly advocate that becoming ecologically aware helps prevent possible changes in the atmosphere, resulting from global warming. Certainly, going green can prevent climate change in our environment by conserving energy, by reducing the health risks associated with global...show more content... While being higher in these nutrients, they are also significantly lower in nitrates and pesticide residues" (Crinnion 2010). Ultimately, going green reduces the chances of developing preventable health problems. In addition to lessening the risk to people's health, going green will benefit the economy financially. Switching to eco–friendly appliances often results in lower energy and water costs, which is very beneficial to low income families. By minimizing the cost when conserving energy, most electricity bills will decrease in amount instead of skyrocketing to insane amounts. Furthermore, limiting the usage of water can reduce many of the water bills. Ultimately, going green will save several people a great deal of money. Opponents of these views present several arguments. They claim that others will take the initiative in going green, which is why they believe that there is no need for them to contribute. These opponents believe that climate change is the cause of weather changes not human beings. Furthermore, most people that agree with the opponents' views believe that one individual contribution to society is not going to benefit humankind. • 12. Essay on Global Warming: Is it a Real Problem? Think of a person riding downhill on a bicycle that has no brake on the wheels, and who knows that there is a large glass plate placed vertically somewhere across the way. The person is sensible enough to predict that if he continues to enjoy this ever accelerating ride, he is going to collide against the invisible glass plate in a short interval. But he is so deeply content on this ride that even after the knowledge of a certain accident ahead unless he jumps out of the bicycle, he is willing to go a bit farther for his personal fulfillment. Today, we face a similar situation in which we are seemingly unwilling to help ourselves out of a possibly disastrous problem of global temperature rise. For as long as human beings have been in...show more content... We can also rephrase this statement by stating that excessive greenhouse gases would inviteglobal warming. Carbon dioxide is the greenhouse gas naturally found in the atmosphere. Since the advent of the Industrial Revolution in the 1700s, humans have devised many inventions that burn fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gases, which, along with other human activities such as clearing land for agriculture or urban settlements, help some of these greenhouse gases accumulate in the atmosphere that in turn trap more heat radiation in the atmosphere causing the Earth's climate to become warmer than it would naturally (Mastrandrea). This unnatural phenomenon is termed global warming by scientists and they blame it for an increase in the Earth's surface temperature of about 0.6В°C (about 1В°F) over the last 100 years (Mastrandrea). So, is the temperature really rising? This simple answer to this question is "Yes." According to Watson, we now have strong evidences that the climate is changing and that human activities were the primary cause of the changes during the 20th century (24). He asserts that the temperature increase in the 20th century was greater than that for any other century during the last 1000 years and the temperatures now are warmer than at any time during this period (26). Johns acclaim that the rise in CO2 levels from 280 parts per million around 1700s to 380 p.m. Today is the major factor Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Global Warming Argumentative Essay Global Warming: Myth or Fact? The Global Warming theory has become increasingly popular over the past few years. Citizens of the world are being encouraged to be more environmentally conscious by others including politicians, celebrities, and world organizations. The problem with the theory lies in the fact that it has become more and more controversial as it gains publicity and attention. The basic concept behind this theory is that the earth was made with a balance of "greenhouse gasses". These gasses are naturally occurring within the atmosphere and they essentially make the planet habitable by keeping it warm. When the world became more industrialized, the amount of carbon dioxide that was being emitted into the atmosphere ...show more content... The more people habituating the planet, the more potential there is for emission of greenhouse gasses. In short, the basis of this argument other than years of documented research and scientific discovery is what harm could we do by being more conservative in our use of energy and other entities that produce more than their share of greenhouse gasses? The answer as it stands now is none. The harmful effects of ignoring this crisis are all but proven fact. The problem that the pro– global warming theorists have created is that of social standing and little else. While there may be scientific backing to support some of the theory, the media presents the problem with great sensationalism. Global warming and energy conservation has thus become a trend and losses some of its validity through this. The scare tactics used by the media to "promote awareness" are just that, a linguistic ploy to gain favor. "Awareness of this global threat reinforced public concern and environmental problems and thereby provided environmental activists, scientists, and policy makers with new momentum in their efforts to promote environmental protection." (McCright, 2000) This statement draws line to the potential benefits that would be received if the pro–global warming theorists were to draw enough attention to the issue. Driven by social empowerment and conviction to environmental protection, these activists misrepresent the actual threat and paint it as being much more Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Global Warming Essay example Global Warming Global warming is an increase in the earth's temperature due to fossil fuels, industry, and agricultural processes caused by human, natural, and other gas emissions. (Melissa Phillips). This results in an increased emission of greenhouse gases. (Caroline Quatman). Short–wave solar radiation sinks into the Earth's atmosphere and warms its surface; while longwave infrared radiation emitted by earth's surface is absorbed, and then re–emitted by trace gases. These gases trap heat and cause the greenhouse effect, rising global temperatures.(Heidi Sterrett). Human activities add to the levels of these gasses, causing more problems. The burning of solid waste, fossil fuels, and wood products are major causes. Automobiles, heat from homes and businesses, and factories are responsible for about 80% of today's carbon dioxide emissions, 25% of methane, and 20% of the nitrous oxide emissions. The increase in agriculture, deforestation, landfills, industrial production, and mining contribute a significant share of emissions too The gases released into the atmosphere are tracked by emission inventories. An emission inventory counts the amount of air pollutants discharged into the atmosphere. These emission inventories are used by many organizations. NASA and meteorologists also use them.(Heidi Sterrett). The Centers for Disease Control have been involved in studying global warming's effect on human health. Global warming is a danger to a human's health. Its affect on climate can adversely affect humans. Plagues have been attributed to global warming. An increase in temperature can result in a longer life cycle for diseases or the agents spreading them. Living in a warm area makes egg production a quicker process. Global warming will lead to more precipitation, which enables infectious diseases to be more easily contracted and spread.

It is a big issue in politics now, everyone is arguing whether or not it is actually real or that it is just a weather pattern. People need to wake up and realize that it is real, just look at the shorter winters and the warmer weather. The Glaciers are melting, crazy weather patterns are happening, so what else could it be? We have more things to worry about as a government though. Some causes of global warming are pollution, solar activity, CO2 emission, SUV use, Radiation from earth's core, and many others. "Sport utility vehicles (SUVs) contribute significantly to pollution and global warming, according to the following view–point from the Sierra Club. Because the emit more carbon dioxide than do cars, SUVs contribute more to the greenhouse effect, which raises the temperature of the Earth. Although the technology exists to improve SUVs, the organization argues, Congress has bowed to pressure from automobile manufactures and refused to require SUVs to be safer, cleaner, and more fuel–efficient. The Sierra Club is one of the oldest and largest environmental advocacy groups in The United States." (Bily 62) SUVs are a huge contributor to pollution and global warming, the waste so much gas and money. "When it comes to wasting energy, SUVs are unrivaled. Built with outraged, gas–guzzling technology, many SUVs get just 13 miles per gallon. And the higher gas prices are, the more money they waste." (Bily 63) If you don't think SUVs contribute obviously you're wrong, with the facts stated obviously SUVs have a big contribution because the use a high amount of gas and emit a lot of carbon dioxide. • 17. Essay on The Global Warming Debate The concept of global warming has become one of the most widely debated and controversial topics of our time. Scientists learned long ago that the earth's climate has powerfully shaped the history of humanity. However, it is only in the past few decades that research has revealed that humans have a significant influence on the climate as well. A growing body of scientific evidence indicates that since 1950, the world's climate has been warming, primarily as a result of emissions from the burning of fossil fuels and the destruction of tropical forests. More importantly, an article titled "Global Warming" published in the New York Times shows that methane, a gas that is emitted from landfills, livestock and oil gas facilities,...show more content... Sources for this paper include articles, books, and websites. Terms will be defined as the arguments are presented. Scientists who believe in global warming say that global warming is the result of carbon dioxide and other air pollutants collecting in the atmosphere like a thickening blanket, trapping the sun's heat which causes the earth to heat up. In fact, according to Amber Jenkins, site editor for "Global Warming: Vital Signs of the Planet," meteorologists at NASA (National Aeronautics & Space Administration) have reported that "Earth is the hottest it has been in at least 400 years, and possibly even the last 2,000 years. Studies indicate that the average global temperature has increased by approximately 0.5–1.0В°F (0.3–0.6В°C) over the last century" (Jenkins). However, CEI scientists have reported that there is no proof that rising temperatures are linked to global warming. The Earth has gone through various periods of cooling and warming throughout its history. The rising temperatures are simply the Earth warming itself up from the previous ice age (Competitive Enterprise Institute). Contrasting with the virtual world of computer simulations, the real world presents a very different picture. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) website even states that: During the last 2,000 years, there have been departures from the stability of earth's natural course Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Global Warming Is A Real Problem Essay Climate change is something everyone in the world should work to make bigger priority. Human beings do not realize that living the way they want, instead of the way they should, is actually damaging the planet and its climate. The main thing being changed by the people that inhabit the earth is the earth's atmosphere. Our earth is comparable to that of a giant greenhouse, in which the earth's atmosphere is comparable to that of the glass surroundings of an actual greenhouse. Greenhouse Gases are what trap the suns heat along the surface of the earth to keep us warm at night. "Ninety–seven percent of climate scientists agree that humans have changed the earth's atmosphere in dramatic ways over the past two centuries, resulting in global warming". (What is the Greenhouse Effect?) Global warming is a real problem, and it has real consequences. The slow increase in the earth's temperature is called global warming. It is my opinion that this is because of the way people all over the earth go about their daily living. Global warming and climate change can be eliminated by upgrading building infrastructures over a period of time. Stopping the use of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas will also have a huge impact on reducing global warming and climate change. Deforestation is also aiding in the destruction of our planet by destroying millions of acres of land a year, and leaving the earth gasping for more air. • 19. Thesis Statement : Global Warming Thesis Statement: Global warming is a growing concern of scientists and researchers who believe that it is a serious problem for our planet. The concerns and research have also been questioned and have even been called myths. Millions of people find themselves affected by these weather pattern changes and are concerned for their futures. Activists on both sides of the argument are very passionate and not afraid to attack each other in every way they can. There are many questions that are still not answered, however, we continue to see drastic weather changes to Earth. We must go beyond the arguments and learn as much as we can to stop what could possibly lead to the destruction of our planet, our way of life and our future. Global warming is concerned with an average increase in the temperature of the atmosphere and the increase in the Earth 's surface temperature primarily due to the emission of greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels. As for the processes of global warming, they can occur from a variety of causes. The causes include the things that are concerned with natural and human factors. Some people believe that global warming is a myth or hoax. They believe that global warming is being used to generate fear and panic and that those behind this movement are using it to control people 's lives and for financial gain. • 20. Greenhouse Effect Essay I have noticed that climate change has been a big issue this year. I think it's very important to talk about Global warming and be aware of the causes of it. We all should want to take care of this earth, because we are the ones living here. We should make people more aware of the greenhouse effect and how it can affect us. Consequently, in September of this year, Florida had some devastating hurricanes that wiped out thousands of homes, businesses, and schools. According to Monmonier's book, "Coast lines: how mapmakers frame the world and chart environmental change," He predicted that the sea levels were rising at an unprecedented rate, causing flooding around the world, including the coast of Florida and California (Monmonier pg. 131). The two main causes of global sea level rise are thermal expansion of the warming of the oceans and the lack of land–based ice due to melting. Due to global warming, our ice caps are melting, and our ocean temperatures are steadily increasing. (Monmonier pg. 131). So how can we help? Second is air pollution, this is one of the biggest problems we are having today. Air pollution is caused by everything we do today. In theEarth's atmosphere, a process called the Greenhouse effect occurs, it acts as a shield to trap in the heat from the sun, so it prevents the heat from going back into space. The Greenhouse effect occurs in nature as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. People say, "Without the greenhouse effect, the planet would be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
