Purpose: to provide interns with high fidelity industry research task exposure; to prepare interns
for upcoming tasks regarding database integration and business intelligence gathering.
Duration: 1 – 2 weeks
Goal:
1. Generate a high-level executive summary on a chosen focal industrial area (to be discussed
individually) based on action research and data integration;
2. Seek out 3 – 5 companies in the chosen focal industrial area, create intelligence report for
each of these companies, with criteria:
BI reporting template final report includes at least the following components:
a) Company name
b) Company bio (one sentence intro + location, contact, address, size, international

k) Manufacture volume*
l) Sales volume*
m) Product marketability in China**
*For k) and l), the BIRA may have to use offline channels to acquire the information from
interviews/focus groups AND/OR use third party BI database that requires subscription – if
third party BI is determined to be the only best way to acquire the critical info, Unisource will
sponsor the subscription to help BIRA get information access

3. ** To assess product marketability in China, besides online and offline channels previously
described, Unisource’s dedicated China Operations Team in Nanjing, Jiangsu routinely
updates industry and company BI in the relevant fields and shares this information with our
Silicon Valley office and New York office, which is a source that can be utilized. But most
importantly, the research analyst needs to apply his/her business analysis expertise and
critical thinking to integrate the raw information gathered from multiple channels to
effectively form the BI report.
