2. New for Sunday School
in 2019
The Church has a new manual for Sunday
School in 2019
Come, Follow Me--- For Sunday School
The New Testament is the 2019 focus
Copies can be ordered on store.lds.org for
$2.45 a copy.
These new 2019 resources take a home-
centered, Church-supported approach to
gospel living, learning, and teaching
(see Handbook 2: Administering the
Church[2010], 1.4).

3. Purpose
“Living by and reading the word of God,” the First Presidency says, “will build faith
in Heavenly Father and His plan of salvation and in the Savior Jesus Christ and His
Atonement” (First Presidency letter, June 29, 2018)
Using the new Come, Follow Me resources, Primary and youth and adult Sunday
School classes support home-centered gospel learning as teachers inspire learners
to experience the power of God’s word for themselves. They invite class members
to discover gospel truths in the scriptures and share their discoveries with each
other “that all may be edified of all” (D&C 88:122).
The resources for 2019 are the first of what eventually will be a four-year rotation
of study based on the four main books of scripture. Members will find digital
versions of these resources on LDS.org and in the Gospel Library app later this
year.

6. Pattern for Teaching:
Invite class members to share insights and experiences they
had over the past week as they studied the scriptures as
individuals and families
Help class members see that their personal learning outside
of class is important.
Make sure all class members feel like a valued part of the
class, whether or not they have something to share.

7. Pattern for Teaching:
You and your class members should focus on doctrine—the
eternal truths of the gospel—found in the assigned scripture
passages.
As you discuss doctrine from the scriptures, what verses,
quotations, experiences, questions, and additional resources
might you share?
How might you use these resources to help class members
discover and understand gospel principles?
2) Teach The Doctrine
8. Pattern for Teaching:
At the end of the lesson, take a moment to preview next
week’s discussion.
Consider how to inspire class members to continue learning
from the New Testament at home, …
…both individually and with their families.

9. Repeat the Pattern Each Week

Teach The Doctrine
Each week the teachers have excellent resources available in the online
version of the lesson for scriptures covered that week to help them prepare.

There is also and “Additional Resources” section at the end of each lesson
that can be incorporated into the class discussion.
