Third in a three part series, Jesus the Great Physician. We studied the nature of our disease (sin), the character of the physician (Jesus) and in this last lesson we study the medicine He prescribes. Godly sorrow over sin, repentance and personally knowing the physician are the medicines prescribed to cure our disease and save us.
2. The Nature of Sin
• Sin is a moral disease
• Sin is a universal disease
• Sin is a mortal disease
• There is only one physician who can
cure this disease!
3. The Character of Christ
• He is an accessible physician
• He is an infallible physician
• He is an unchangeable physician
• He is the only appointed physician
4. Mark 2:13-17
13 Then He went out again by the sea;
and all the multitude came to Him, and
He taught them. 14 As He passed by, He
saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at
the tax office. And He said to him,
“Follow Me.” So he arose and followed
Him.
5. Mark 2:13-17
15 Now it happened, as He was dining
in Levi’s house, that many tax
collectors and sinners also sat
together with Jesus and His disciples;
for there were many, and they
followed Him.
6. Mark 2:13-17
16 And when the scribes and
Pharisees saw Him eating with the
tax collectors and sinners, they said
to His disciples, “How is it that He
eats and drinks with tax collectors
and sinners?”
7. Mark 2:13-17
17 When Jesus heard it, He said to
them, “Those who are well have no
need of a physician, but those who
are sick. I did not come to call the
righteous, but sinners, to
repentance.”
9. The Medicine He Prescribes
• Understand the seriousness of our
disease
10. Luke 18:9-14
9 Also He spoke this parable to some
who trusted in themselves that they
were righteous, and despised others:
10 “Two men went up to the temple to
pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax
collector.
11. Luke 18:9-14
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus
with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am
not like other men—extortioners,
unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax
collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give
tithes of all that I possess.’
12. Luke 18:9-14
13 And the tax collector, standing afar off,
would not so much as raise his eyes to
heaven, but beat his breast, saying,
‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’
13. Luke 18:9-14
14 I tell you, this man went down to his
house justified rather than the other; for
everyone who exalts himself will be
humbled, and he who humbles himself
will be exalted.”
14. 2Corinthians 4:3,4
3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is
veiled to those who are perishing,
4 whose minds the god of this age has
blinded, who do not believe, lest the
light of the gospel of the glory of Christ,
who is the image of God, should shine
on them.
15. Acts 16:31
And he brought them out and
said, “Sirs, what must I do to be
saved?”
16. The Medicine He Prescribes
• Understand the seriousness of our
disease
• Sincere repentance is required
17. Isaiah 55:7
Let the wicked forsake his way,
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
Let him return to the LORD,
And He will have mercy on him;
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.
18. Luke 13:3
I tell you, no; but unless you
repent you will all likewise
perish.
19. Luke 18:13
And the tax collector, standing
afar off, would not so much as
raise his eyes to heaven, but
beat his breast, saying, ‘God,
be merciful to me a sinner!’
20. Acts 3:19
Repent therefore and be converted,
that your sins may be blotted out, so
that times of refreshing may come
from the presence of the Lord…

22. John 14:9
Jesus said to him, “Have I been
with you so long, and yet you
have not known Me, Philip? He
who has seen Me has seen the
Father; so how can you say, ‘Show
us the Father’?
23. John 16:3
And these things they will do to
you because they have not
known the Father nor Me.
24. Matthew 11:28-30
Come to Me, all you who labor and are
heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from
Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls. For
My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
25. John 5:39,40
39 You search the Scriptures, for in
them you think you have eternal
life; and these are they which
testify of Me. 40 But you are not
willing to come to Me that you
may have life.
