2. What is Social
Constructivism?
Simply put, Social Constructivism is a social
learning theory that was developed by
Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky. He
theorised that that individuals are in fact
active participants in the creation of their
own knowledge. Vygotsky believed the
learning didn’t only take place within the
individual, but primarily in social and
cultural settings.
3. What does it
mean?
Social Constructivism teaches
us that all knowledge develops
as a result of social interaction
and language use. Therefore,
it's a shared experience, rather
than an individual one. In
addition, knowledge can't be
obtained by simply observing
the world. Rather through
many social processes and
interactions.
4. What are some of
the benefits of
Social
Constructivism?
Learners tend to enjoy
the learning process
more when they're
engaged with others.
Learners focus more on
thinking and
understanding than
memorization.
Learners develop their
social skills better,
allowing for better
communication. Thus
encouraging autonomy.
