Since the beginning of the
football season, the talks of potential
state championship teams for 2A
have been the parallel with recent
history and consistent throughout the
year thus far. The obvious favorite
for a “three-peat” being the
Daingerfield Tigers, an athletic
powerhouse and no stranger to state
championships, being the Tatum
Eagles, and the No. 1 ranked team in
the state in 2A, the Refugio Bobcats.
But one team has thrown their hat in
the ring, and made a bold statement
shown in their playing – That's the
West Rusk Raiders. Week after
week, the Raiders keep trouncing
each opponent standing in there way
en route to an undefeated season
with only one obstacle remaining.
Since district play began, the Raiders
have outscored their opponents
233-28. Each game, the score
continues to pile on, putting up 48 on
Union Grove, 54 on Frankston, 63 on
Winona, and 68 on Joaquin. What's
next for the Raiders? The malicious
Arp Tigers, who have defeated West
Rusk in football every year for about
the past 12 years. What's on the
line? The District 9-2A Div. II “crown”
and a chance to disprove the old
saying that “history” repeats itself.
West Rusk has shown all opponents
that we can play ball. Every year, the
challenge for West Rusk always
comes in week 10 against Arp and is
known as the highlight of the season
for the Raiders. But this year, week
10 is just another mountain on the
way to the real challenge we are
facing: a potential first State
Championship! The Raiders
aspirations are always as great as
Dear Dr. Love,
My Girlfriend is a big FLIRT! Do
you have any suggestions on
how to handle this?
Signed,
Fed Up with Flirting
Dear Fed Up with Flirting,
Yes, you do have a BIG
problem! Here are a few things
you can use to curb her flirting. It
has worked well with the 42
girlfriends I have had with this
problem.
1. Put a tracking device in her ice
cream. You can monitor her
every move.
2. Tell the male population she
and her family just returned from
Africa where she might have
contacted a “Flesh eating virus”
(with a very low survival rate!!)
3. Tell the male population the
last guy she flirted with ended up
on last month's TV show –
Unsolved Mysteries. They are still
looking for him.
4. Tell the male population she
secretly eats Elmer's glue sticks
throughout the day and an
occasional crayon or two.
Strange and gross!
5. Lastly, tell the male population
to look for a power source - She
runs on batteries!
