Green chemistry Poser Presentation.
1. GREEN CHEMISTRY
WHAT?
•Use of set of principles reducing or
eliminating the use or generation of
hazardous substances in the design ,
manufacture and application of
chemical products.
WHY?
•Chemical developments
bring new environmental
problems and harmful
unexpected side effects,
resulting in the need for
‘greener’ chemical
products.
•It represents a major
paradigm shift that focuses
on environmental
protection at the design
stage of product and
manufacturing processes.
Sustainability Framework
•Green chemistry relies upon
lifecycle thinking to bring their
concepts to fruition; it serves to
achieve the ultimate goal of a
sustainable economy and society.
IN DAY TO DAY LIFE !!
Dry cleaning of clothes:
•Tetra chloroetheneTetra chloroethene (C2Cl4) was
used as a solvent for dry cleaning
but these compound contaminate
the ground water and are suspected
carcinogen.
•The process using this compound
is now being replaced by a process
where liquefied CO2 with suitable
detergent is used.
•Replacement with a halogenated
solvent by liquid CO2 will result in
less harm to ground water.
