18. CHAMBERS OF THE HEART
THE RIGHT ATRIUM
It is the right upper
chamber of the heart.
Receives venous blood
from the whole body.
Pumps into the right
ventricle.
Forms the right
border,part of upper
border and base of the
heart.
19. THE RIGHT VENTRICLE
It is a triangular chamber.
It receives blood from the
right atrium.
Pumps it to the lungs
through pulmonary trunk
and arteries.
It forms the inferior border
and the sternocostal
surface of the heart.
It has two
surfaces,anterior and
inferior.
20. THE LEFT ATRIUM
It is a quadrangular
chamber.
It forms the left two-thirds
of the base of the
heart,greater part of upper
border,part of anterior
surface and left border.
It receives oxygenated
blood from lungs through
four pulmonary veins.
And pumps it into te left
ventricle through left atrio-
ventricular orifice.
21. THE LEFT VENTRICLE
It forms the apex of the
heart,a part of the anterior
surface,left
surface,inferior surface
and left border.
It receives oxygenated
blood from left atrium.
Pumps it into the aorta.
Interventricular septum-its
upper part seperates not
only two ventricles but
also right atrium and left
ventricle.
22. VALVES OF THE HEART
Valves maintain unidirectional flow of blood.
Prevents its regurgitation in opposite direction.
There are two pairs of valves.
a)) atrioventricular pair
b))semilunar pair
These valves have cusps.
CUSPS-they are folds of endocardium,strengthene
by fibrous tissue.
24. Right atrioventricular
valve
Left atrioventriclar
valve
Also called as tricuspid
valve.
Has three
cusps.anterior,posterior and
septal.
Admits the tip of three
fingers.
Also called as bicuspid or
mitral valve.
Has two cusps.anterior and
posterior.
Admits the tip of two fingers.
25. SEMILUNAR VALVES-there are
two semilunar valves. Right and left.
RIGHT VALVE LEFT VALVE
Right valve is commonly
known as the pulmonary
valve.
It has three cusps.
It does not have a fibrous
ring.
Left valve is commonly
known as aortic valve.
It has three cusps.
It does not have a fibrous
ring.
30. RIGHT CORONARY ART. LEFT CORONARY ART.
1)It is larger than the right.
2)Branches-1)branches to the
inferior surface.
2)ant.
interventricular
3)Area supplied-
Left atrium
Small part of rt. Ventricle.
Greater part of left Ventricle
Ant. Part of interventricular
septum.
Left branch of the A.V.
bundle.
1)It is smaller than the left.
2)branches-1)marginal
2)post.
interventricular
3)Area supplied-
Rt. Atrium
Greater part of rt. Ventricle.
Smaller part of left ventricle.
Post. Part of interventricular
septum.
Entire conducting sytem except
left branch of the A.V. bundle.
33. VENOUS SYSTEM OF THE
HEART
Great cardiac vein
Middle cardiac vein
Right marginal vein
Vein supplying the rt. And
left atrium.
Anterior cardiac vein
Thebesian veins
Beyond the anterior cardiac
vein and the thebesian veins
all the remaining veins drain
into the coronary sinus
while they drain directly into
the rt.atrium.
