Cancer is a group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled cell growth and the ability to invade other tissues. It is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Cancer occurs due to changes in the genes that control cell growth and division. Some known causes of cancer include tobacco smoke, viruses, alcohol, and other carcinogens. Treatments for cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and other methods.
3. 1. Cancer is one of the most dreaded disease of human beings.
2. Major cause of death all over the globe.
3. More than a million Indian duffers from cancer and large
number of them die from it annually.
4. There are about 200 different types of cancer. It can start in
any type of body tissue.
5. Cancer is a disease caused when cells divide uncontrollably
and spread into surrounding tissue.
4. Cancer may regarded as a group of
disease characterized by an abnormal
growth of cells.
Ability to invade tissue and even distant
organs.
They eventually death of a patient if the
tumor has progressed beyond the stage
when it can be successfully removed.
5. 1. Cancer is collection of disease of characterize by abnormal
and uncontrolled growth.
2. As in our body cell growth and differentiation is highly
controlled and regulated.
3. In cancer cells, there is crackdown of these regulatory
mechanism.
4. Normal cells show a property called contact inhibition by
virtue of which contact with other cells inhibit their
uncontrolled growth but cancer cells appear to have lost this
property.
5. As a result of this cancerous cells just continue to divide give
rise to masses of cells called tumors.
6. TUMOR
Tumors are of two types
1. Benign tumors
2. Malignant tumors
Benign tumors normally remained confined to
there original location and do not spread to other
parts of the body and cause little damage.
Malignant tumors are a mass of proliferating cells
called neoplastic or tumor called tumor cells, these
cells grow very rapidly, invading and damaging the
surrounding normal tissue
These cells cause starve the normal cells.
7. Cancer caused by transformation of normal cell into
cancerous neoplastic cell may be induce by physical,
chemical or biological agents and these agents are
called carcinogens.
Chemical carcinogens present in tobacco smoke have
been identified as major cause of lung cancer.
Cancer causing viruses called oncogenic virus.
Excess intake of alcohol cause esophageal and liver
cancer.
Alcohol contributes about 3% of all cancer death.
8. Treatment of cancer
Surgery
Chemotherapy
Radiation therapy
Immunotherapy
Hyperthermia
Stem cell transplant
Photodynamic therapy
Laser in cancer treatment
Blood product donation and transfusion
