This document describes hypomania and different types of mania. Hypomania is characterized by a persistent mild elevation of mood, increased energy and activity, and feelings of well-being. It can include increased sociability, talkativeness, and decreased need for sleep, but does not severely disrupt life. Mania involves an elevated mood out of keeping with circumstances, elation, decreased need for sleep, and inflated self-esteem. Mania with psychotic symptoms includes delusions or hallucinations in addition to manic symptoms.
