MEANING :-
 3PL, or third-party logistics, is essentially a variety of services and
processes that are provided to a business by an external company for a
variety of reasons such as wanting to reduce costs, improve efficiencies and
expand capabilities.
 3PL services are usually flexible and scalable based on the needs of the
business, meaning that they can be utilized on an as-needed basis, or as a
long-term solution depending on the goals and objectives of the business.
Why Choose 3PL?
 There are many reasons why companies choose to go the 3PL service route.
Often, as a company grows, the need for warehouse space increases beyond that
business’ ability to manage it. 3PL warehousing can be a good option for
companies facing storage capacity issues. Other companies may be challenged
with increasing transportation costs and investment in equipment and vehicles.
The large fleets of modern vehicles and equipment that are available through 3PL
providers are often a much more cost-effective solution. Then there are US
businesses looking to expand into the Canadian market – a good 3PL will have the
depth of experience to help solve many logistics challenges involved with these
scenarios.
 Other reasons why companies may choose to partner with a 3PL include
challenges with customer service, order fulfilment, returns, order tracking, technical
services, inventory management, and more. As you can expect, the more of these
struggles that a company faces as they grow, the more value a 3PL partner can
provide.

Cost Savings
 3PL providers have vast networks of resources across the country, and the globe.
This includes warehousing space, trucking and transportation fleets, human
resources, and technology that your company can take advantage of without the
necessary massive investment in overhead and capital setting this all up on your
own would require. This level of flexibility adds up to significant cost savings which
have a big impact on the bottom line.
Flexibility
 The level of service you obtain from a 3PL provider is entirely up to you, and can be
adjusted to accommodate different levels of business due to seasonal or cyclical
demands. For example, if your company sees a big surge in orders every year for
the holidays, 3PL companies can scale up services and labor accordingly to meet
high demand needs, and then go back to normal levels once the surge subsides

3PL services. Companies can expect to achieve faster and more reliable delivery
times, improved tracking and order status communication, reduced chance of
damage or incorrect product packing, and more. All these benefits make a big

average lifetime value of customers and your brand image.
International Reach
 When an American company expands beyond its country’s borders into Canada,
new set of challenges arises in the form of regulatory compliance, customs
clearance, and communications. 3PL providers are able to assist companies with
smooth and efficient entry into new markets through the use of their established
extensive Canadian networks.

experienced 3PL logistics providers is extremely valuable.
DISADVANTAGES
Loss of control
 One disadvantage is the loss of control a client has by using third-party logistics.
With outbound logistics, the 3PL provider usually assumes communication and
interactions with a firm's customer or supplier. To mitigate this, some 3PL’s
to brand themselves as their clients, such as applying clients' logos on their assets
and dressing their employees like their clients' employees.
IT
 The IT systems of the provider and the client must be interoperable. Technology
helps increase visibility for the client by way of continuous status updates via
Dispatch Management Software and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) which
involve a cost, but it can help avoid penalties for delays and subsequent financial
losses such as from not unloading freight in time.
ROLE OF 3PL LOGISTICS
Role of logistics between customers and manufacturer :-
 After getting the information of demand of customers, manufacturer sends the
product to customers through logistics. Logistics plays an important role in
transportation of product from manufacturer to customers. In this system, two most
prominent methods of billing procedure take place. These are, cash on delivery and
online transaction.
 With the help of cash on delivery method, customers can pay the billing amount
after the delivery of product. With the help of online transaction customers an pay
billing amount through two tools such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP),
Electronic Data interchange (EDI) and customer relationship management and the
ability to link one activity with another.
Three key questions will help you determine whether
you need a 3PL:
Are you fulfilling more than 10-20 orders per day?
If so, calculate the costs of partnering with a 3PL to keep your profit margins strong.
Likewise, estimate the growth potential—opportunities you’re not currently able to
pursue–by outsourcing fulfillment.
Are you running out of costly inventory storage space?
Brands often forget to include storage costs in their fulfillment expense calculations.
Compare your current expenses with estimates from 3PLs. Determine if bundling
storage costs with outsourced fulfillment is a better value.
Is your business a coiled spring?
If you’re expecting a sustained spike in order volume—not just one-off flash sales or
marketing promotions—estimate the costs and headcount necessary to meet demand
yourself. Compare with the costs of outsourcing fulfillment.

 Transportation
 Shipping and receiving
 Distribution.
Warehouse- and distribution-based 3PLs
 This is the most common type of 3PL—they store, ship, and handle returns.

If you’re expanding globally, international warehouses can help build a global
supply chain.
Transportation-based 3PLs
 Specialize in the transportation between locations. For example, they might
transport inventory between your factory and warehouse or you and your retail
buyer. Consider the following when weighing a parcel transportation provider:
1. Origin location
2. Destination location
3. Timeframes
4. Shipping methods
5. Service levels
6. Pricing and discounts

MEANING :-  3PL, or third-party logistics, is essentially a variety of services and processes that are provided to a business by an external company for a variety of reasons such as wanting to reduce costs, improve efficiencies and expand capabilities.  3PL services are usually flexible and scalable based on the needs of the business, meaning that they can be utilized on an as-needed basis, or as a long-term solution depending on the goals and objectives of the business.
  • 3. Why Choose 3PL?  There are many reasons why companies choose to go the 3PL service route. Often, as a company grows, the need for warehouse space increases beyond that business’ ability to manage it. 3PL warehousing can be a good option for companies facing storage capacity issues. Other companies may be challenged with increasing transportation costs and investment in equipment and vehicles. The large fleets of modern vehicles and equipment that are available through 3PL providers are often a much more cost-effective solution. Then there are US businesses looking to expand into the Canadian market – a good 3PL will have the depth of experience to help solve many logistics challenges involved with these scenarios.  Other reasons why companies may choose to partner with a 3PL include challenges with customer service, order fulfilment, returns, order tracking, technical services, inventory management, and more. As you can expect, the more of these struggles that a company faces as they grow, the more value a 3PL partner can provide.
  • 4. BENEFITS OF 3PL Cost Savings  3PL providers have vast networks of resources across the country, and the globe. This includes warehousing space, trucking and transportation fleets, human resources, and technology that your company can take advantage of without the necessary massive investment in overhead and capital setting this all up on your own would require. This level of flexibility adds up to significant cost savings which have a big impact on the bottom line. Flexibility  The level of service you obtain from a 3PL provider is entirely up to you, and can be adjusted to accommodate different levels of business due to seasonal or cyclical demands. For example, if your company sees a big surge in orders every year for the holidays, 3PL companies can scale up services and labor accordingly to meet high demand needs, and then go back to normal levels once the surge subsides

  • 6. DISADVANTAGES Loss of control  One disadvantage is the loss of control a client has by using third-party logistics. With outbound logistics, the 3PL provider usually assumes communication and interactions with a firm's customer or supplier. To mitigate this, some 3PL’s to brand themselves as their clients, such as applying clients' logos on their assets and dressing their employees like their clients' employees. IT  The IT systems of the provider and the client must be interoperable. Technology helps increase visibility for the client by way of continuous status updates via Dispatch Management Software and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) which involve a cost, but it can help avoid penalties for delays and subsequent financial losses such as from not unloading freight in time.

ROLE OF 3PL LOGISTICS Role of logistics between customers and manufacturer :-  After getting the information of demand of customers, manufacturer sends the product to customers through logistics. Logistics plays an important role in transportation of product from manufacturer to customers. In this system, two most prominent methods of billing procedure take place. These are, cash on delivery and online transaction.  With the help of cash on delivery method, customers can pay the billing amount after the delivery of product. With the help of online transaction customers an pay billing amount through two tools such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Electronic Data interchange (EDI) and customer relationship management and the ability to link one activity with another.
  • 8. Three key questions will help you determine whether you need a 3PL: Are you fulfilling more than 10-20 orders per day? If so, calculate the costs of partnering with a 3PL to keep your profit margins strong. Likewise, estimate the growth potential—opportunities you’re not currently able to pursue–by outsourcing fulfillment. Are you running out of costly inventory storage space? Brands often forget to include storage costs in their fulfillment expense calculations. Compare your current expenses with estimates from 3PLs. Determine if bundling storage costs with outsourced fulfillment is a better value. Is your business a coiled spring? If you’re expecting a sustained spike in order volume—not just one-off flash sales or marketing promotions—estimate the costs and headcount necessary to meet demand yourself. Compare with the costs of outsourcing fulfillment.
  • 9. Types of Third-Party Logistics Providers Investigate four crucial capabilities when comparing 3PLs:  Warehousing  Transportation  Shipping and receiving  Distribution.
  • 10. Warehouse- and distribution-based 3PLs  This is the most common type of 3PL—they store, ship, and handle returns. Innovative warehouses can help you offer Amazon Prime-like shipping in two days. If you’re expanding globally, international warehouses can help build a global supply chain. Transportation-based 3PLs  Specialize in the transportation between locations. For example, they might transport inventory between your factory and warehouse or you and your retail buyer.
