2. The initial idea of “MediSafe” (cabinet & keyless child safety lock) was born at work.
Based on first-hand insight and real-life experiences by two medical professionals,
John Harald Tolnes and Espen Kronborg. Both served as paramedics for over
ten years and witnessed a vast number of child accidents caused by households’
thoughtless storage of cosmetics, chemicals, and medications.
In general, parents have little knowledge of the serious consequences these
products may cause to their children.
Dedicated to providing safe home environments for children, Mr. Tolnes
and Mr. Kronborg brought “MediSafe” to life.
HOW IT STARTED
3. Children 1 to 6 years of age are especially prone to poisonings. In all households, there
are a variety of products that are poisoning or in other ways harmful. Accidental use or
consumption of these products may lead to poisoning that in the worst cases may be
life-threatening.
2016 Poison statistics reported in the U.S.
(National Poison Data System)
• 2.159 million human poison exposures
• Children younger than 6 years of age comprise nearly half of poison
exposures (46.4%). The highest incidence occurred in one and
two year olds (8,083 and 7,675 exposures/100,000)
• Cosmetics and personal care products top the list of the most
common substances children are exposed to, followed by
cleaning substances and pain medications.

“New and improved lock with enhanced

IKEA recognize the value of
“MediSafe” locker mechanism
and order 200.000 units.
----
The partnership ended in
2003 due to an IKEA built
security cabinet built on their
flat-packed / assemble at
home model. The cabinet
failed to meet standard safety
requirements.
(To be continued in 2013)
IKEA reestablishes the dialogue
and is looking to rebuild our
partnership.
----
IKEA discovers that the patent
for our safety lock has expired
and chooses to copy the
mechanism of the lock. However,
the lock was not reproduced
to the same standard as the
authentic patented design.
Due to the lack of
sufficient capital for
further operation, we are
looking for a buyer who
can build on the success
of “MediSafe”, as well as
continue to bring forward
our mission of making
people’s home a safer

tremendous potential. The locker mechanism sparkled interest with IKEA,

MediSafe (lock & cabinet) was successfully introduced in the local Norwegian
market on a small scale (approx. 10 -15.000 units sold).
Potential distribution channels include
bathroom & kitchen manufacturer/suppliers,
home improvement, and building supply stores,
pharmacies, medical supplies and equipment,
health insurance companies, etc.
