M. Gorky was a Russian writer, novelist and
playwright. He was one of the most significant
and well-known writers and thinkers in the world.
His works are distinguished by revolutionary
trend.
3. Childhood
Gorky was born in Nizhny
Novgorod in the family of
carpenter. He spent his
childhood with grandfather.
He began working when he
was 11 at first at the store
and then as a dishwasher and
a baker.
Only reading books saved
him from despair.
Gorky came to Kazan at the
age of 16 where after 4 years
he formed his personality
and determined his future
path.
He began his journey
around Russia in 1888.
4. Activities
Gorky was engaged in
literary work.
Gorky’s stories appeared in
the metropolitan journals in
1895.
His romantic stories called
for a struggle, brought the
heroic optimism (“Old
woman Izergil”, “Song of
the Falcon”).
The novel “Foma Gordeev”
advanced Gorky in a
number of world-class
writers.
5. Revolutionary year
Writer took an active part in
the revolutionary events of
1905.
Gorky was imprisoned in the
Peterpaul Fortress for antitsar proclamations. But the
general protest of the people
forced the government to
release the writer.
Gorky published his article
entitled “Unfashionable
thoughts” where there were
concerns in the
unpreparedness of October
revolution after February
revolution.
6. Death of the writer
Many believed that the
death of the writer was
“suspicious”.
Terrible secret was
revealed after it turned
out that Gorky was
murdered on the order
of Trotsky.
