● The most used C++ library apart of the STL library
● Many of its components will be or are already incorporated into the STL
○ Already included: BOOST thread, BOOST smart pointers
○ To be included: BOOST ASIO, BOOST Filesystem, BOOST Concepts and traits.
● Very robust, every library is peer reviewed and their author are also member of
the C++ committee.
● It’s C++!
● It’s license is not restrictive.
● Well supported in most of the operating systems.

4. But… Why BOOST ASIO?
● It will be included in the next C++ standard
● It also include an easy abstraction for sockets.
● The sockets abstraction extends the C++ STL streams
● Many tools for debugging
● No library files, only header files

sudo apt-get install libboost*
sudo zypper install libboost*
sudo yum install libboost*
Compilation
No need of library linkage!

● Operating Systems’s IO abstraction
