A. REFLECTION AND/OR REACTION TO THE LESSONS LEARNED FROM
THE MUSICALE (5 – 7 SENTENCES)
I have heard about this stage show “The Phantom of the Opera” before, but I haven’t
watched any of its show not until I am required to watch one. For someone who does not
like to watch a musical play or who’s not used in watching this kind of shows, and yet! You
still know or heard about it? It only means one thing. This stage show is very popular!
Because eventhose who are not their target market were able to heard or learned about
their show.
As I have done my research, I see that this Broadway musical was inarguably famous.
According to them The Phantom of the Opera may be the most successful entertainment
franchise of all time. It has grossed $5.6 billion worldwide — more than Avatar, more than
Titanic, more than all the Star Wars films combined. A staggering 130 million people have
3. B. ANALYSIS OF THE MUSICALE/PLAY
1. THEME
The theme of The Phantom of the Opera is about love, that love cannot be forced, it
is the will of the heart, that you cannot force yourself into someone who does not
want you.
The stage show also gives emphasis that everyone needs love. That sometimes the
reason why there are people who are hardhearted was because they do not receive
love from other people.
5. Because of Carllota’s
resignation, the managers
of the musical show, turn
to Christine who at that
time was no more than a
chorus girl. The show
casts her as the leading
lady and she became
famous because of her
amazing performance.
Christine’s fame makes
Carllota envy her that leads her to take revenge against her because she thought
that it was all Christine’s plot to replace her as the opera’s leading diva.
Their misery begins
when Christine, whom
the Phantom has fallen
in love with, accepts the
marriage proposal of
her childhood
sweetheart Viscount
Raoul de Changy, the
Phantom's heart is
broken. His despair
quickly turns to furious,
jealousy rage inside him and planned to do anything to win her, evenif by means of
kidnapping her and bring her to his lair, Raoul gets Madame Giry to take him to
the Phantom's lair. She leaves Raoul halfway through their journey, and Raoul goes
the rest of the way alone. After nearly drowning, he shows up in the Phantom's lair
to save Christine.
6. The Phantom then gives Christine the
difficult decision: she can either stay with
the Phantom and Raoul (who has been tied
up by the Phantom) goes free, or she refuses
the Phantom and Raoul dies but Christine
goes free. Christine decides to stay with the
Phantom and tells him that he is not alone.
She kisses him passionately.
At this the Phantom realizes
that Christine truly loves
him, but his horrible actions
have ruined any chance they
have together. In an act of
selflessness, he frees both
Christine and Raoul.
Christine gives the ring back
to the Phantom who sadly
tells Christine that he loves
her.
Christine forces herself to leave
with Raoul in the boat. She looks
back at the Phantom sadly,
knowing that she loves him.
Heartbroken, the Phantom
destroys the mirrors and escapes
through a secret passage just
before the mob shows up. Meg
Giry finds only his mask.
7. 3. AUDIENCE IMPACT
The Phantom of the
Opera developed an
enthusiastic audience
because of their
impeccable performance
at the Royal Albert Hall.
You can see that the
musicale play attracted a
large number of audience
who created of what they
call an atmosphere of
attentive involvement,
where they are very attentive
to applaud the performance of
the casts every time they did a
great scene, particularly when
The Phantom and Christine
Daae perform and sing the
“Think of Me” “The Phantom
of the Opera” and “Angel of
Music”
8. C. EVALUATION OF THE MUSICALE/PLAY
1. STAGE
You will be amazed by how great
the casts of the “The Phantom of
the Opera” were! Because despite
of the smallness of the stage, they
still manage to execute their
performance really well. I don’t
know what’s with the small stage,
but I notice that most of the
musicale play, uses stage or
platform that are quite small for
the number of the performers that
are performing, but I’ve come to a conclusion, that they intentionally used small
stages maybe for the purpose of compressing the performers so that the
concentration of the audience can focus on a small area therefore the audience can
see every details that is happening on the stage.
