1. Three Eurest Airport Lounges
Listed Among Best in the World
At USA TODAY’s request, Frommer’s
Travel Guides recently selected its top
10 airport lounges worldwide. Three of
these lounges are serviced by Eurest:
Presidents Club - Terminal E operat-
ed by Continental Airlines at Houston
George Bush Intercontinental Airport,
Oneworld operated by British Airways,
Qantas and Cathay Pacific at Los An-
geles International Airport and Terrace
Lounge operated by British Airways at
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Compass Group runs all British Airways
lounges and Terrace Lounge in Seattle
has been operated by Eurest since its
opening in 2001. The lounge is 100%
subsidized by British Airways with the
majority of decisions, services and of-
ferings mandated by the airline. With
only 130 seats, the Terrace team serves
between 60 and 100 people per flight
and is open nearly all day, every day.
“Ours is the only international lounge
in Seattle and we have outdone the
competition with our cleanliness, ser-
vice and attention to detail,” said Man-
ager Michael Workman. “The journey
starts for a traveler when they book
their ticket. Our job is to give them the
‘wow’ experience and send them on to
the next part of their journey on the
flight. All parts are crucial and we do
our part to make it special. We want
our customers to have the feeling of
being in a prestigious environment and
our staff works really hard to make
that happen.”
The Oneworld Lounge is a collabora-
tion between Qantas, British Airways
and Cathay Pacific. The over 4,000
square-foot facility operates from 6:30
AM to 1 AM seven days a week and
includes two separate lounges with
space for 90 first and 210 business
class passengers. The lounges are also
available to premium passengers flying
with the Alliance’s other carriers oper-
ating from the terminal. District Man-
ager John Bernal spoke highly of the
offerings in the reception area, which
includes a video art display made of
nine plasma screens and gives interna-
tional first and business class travelers
a peek at what awaits them. The One-
world Lounge also features a relaxing
bar, 42-inch and 52-inch plasma tele-
visions showing DirecTV, zoned music
programmed by Prescriptive Music,
nine showers, internet café-style work
stations equipped with PCs and buffet
areas.
Continental was the only U.S. airline
to receive recognition from Frommer’s.
The President’s Club in Terminal E of-
fers travelers ample space with 26,000
square-feet across three floors and
exudes Texas charm with dark wood,
leather and a few modern accoutre-
ments. The lounge is accessible with a
membership and serves around 2,000
people for 19 hours every day. Gen-
eral Manager Kenneth Farrar said, “Our
people are very well trained, friendly
and well-versed on our offerings. They
know what questions to ask to give
guests what they really want. It’s our
focus on service that makes us ten
notches above everybody else.”
Besides flyers who pay or use frequent-
flyer miles for an annual membership,
airlines in the U.S. sell daily passes and
allow some military personnel and pas-
sengers with high-price tickets, credit
card privileges or elite-level status in
frequent-flyer programs to enter club
lounges. Many foreign airlines have
no membership fees and reserve their
lounges primarily for flyers with high-
price tickets.

Recognizing a HERO
This Week’s Featured HERO:
Vasyl Kushnerek –
Ameriprise Financial, Minneapolis, MN
Vasyl is the Sous Chef at Ameriprise Fi-
nancial and according to Manager Tiffany
Hauser, he is one of the most hard work-
ing individuals she has ever seen at the
account. Since his arrival, he has dem-
onstrated all of Compass Group’s values
and guiding principles. He currently man-
ages 18 employees and is always able to
lend a helping hand to his hourly associ-
ates, regardless of the situation.
“He is an all around great guy and any-
one who works with him on a daily basis
would agree that he deserves to be rec-
ognized as a HERO!” said Hauser.
In addition to his positive attitude and
work ethic, Vasyl is an amazing chef. He
was born and raised in the Ukraine and
has implemented some of his favorite
recipes from home into the Ameriprise
accounts. Many customers look for these
dishes and menu items on the weekly
menus as they rant and rave on how de-
licious they are. In fact, they typically sell
out of everything he prepares!
Eurest has recognized 220 associates
across Western, Eastern and National
accounts. Don’t let outstanding work go
un-noticed. Empower both hourly and
salaried associates by recognizing them
for going above and beyond their com-
mitment to service excellence by filling
out the HERO Submission Form on My-
Compass.
2. Accounting Close Condensing
to Four Days
Beginning with fiscal year 2012 (October 2011), the Compass
Group North America accounting close will be shortened from
five days to four. Last fiscal year (FY10), our Year End Align-
ment (YEA) initiative shortened the close to its current five-
day cycle. Now, Compass Group PLC has mandated condens-
ing the close process by an additional day to ensure timely
reporting to investors.

Spotlight on Safety
Preventing Near-Injuries
A near-injury is when someone almost got hurt, but fortunately did not. It should
serve as a warning and needs to be addressed immediately. When a near-injury oc-
curs, be sure to stop and think about why it happened and how to prevent further
re-occurrences. Evaluate associates’ opinions on safe behavior and examine any
common threads of unsafe practices. Falling objects and improper storage of equip-
ment and tools are common, yet very preventable, near-injury incidents.
