City buses contribute for most of the traffic around Mysuru Palace - Exhibition Ground on Ooty Road. It reduces overall throughput of the Buses and also a national waste of fuel and public time. This presentation is about how to optimize city buses.
2. Problem
All the City Buses in Mysuru enter City Bus Stand Located in Core Central Business District Due to Hub Spoke Model
There are around 500 City Buses Approximately Plying in Mysuru City, each visiting CBS at least 5-10 times a day.
This contributes atleast 5000 plus buses plying to CBS everyday contributing to more pollution & congestion
Even more worse problem is all these buses roam around palace either to enter or exit CBS plying via Nanjangud Road.
This adds to 2km addition for Entering and Exiting the Bus Station burning nearly 1 litre of Diesel also slowing the entire network
and reducing the throughput of the Entire Bus Network of Mysuru.
During Dasara & Weekends, load on the Palace-Exhibition Nanjangud Road increases slowing bus network as well as traffic.

4. Current Design
North Bound
Buses
Inbound buses take left near
Suburban Bus Stand,ply via
Siddhartha Hotel, Hardinge
Circle, Palace CBS.
Outbound buses go further
South, take left turn in front of
MCC, roam around Palace to
Enter Hardinge Cirlce & Pass
Suburban Bus Stand.
East Bound
Buses
Inbound buses take come via
Ittigegudu & Palace .Few from
Suburban Bus Stand, Siddhartha
Hotel, Hardinge Circle
Outbound buses go further
South, take left turn in front of
MCC, roam around Palace to
Enter Hardinge Cirlce,Mirza Road
a& Zoo Road. Few head towards
Suburban Bus Stand.
South Bound
Buses
Inbound buses mostly come via
Agrahara or 100 feet road, roam
around Palace to enter CBS.
Outbound buses take a straight
forward path via Pathashala &
Agrahara or 100 feet road
West Bound
Buses
Inbound buses mostly come via
Agrahara or 100 feet road, roam
around Palace to enter CBS. Few
North West buses come via
Subarban Bus Stand, Hardinge
Circle.
Outbound buses take a short
path via Pathashala,100 feet
road. North West bound take a
long route roaming around
Palace, Suburban Bus Stand.
5. Buses passing through CBS
Buses from South/East
going to North/West
like route 80 roam
around Palace Twice
Imagine During Dasara
with huge traffic jam
infront of Palace buses
like Route 80 roaming
twice
Nearly 4 kms buses
waste around Palace
Buses from
North/East/North-West
going to South/West
does not face this
problem as it is pass
through
Buses enter from
Garuda Mall Side and
Exit from Lands down
Building Side
Nearly 4 kms roaming
around Palace is Saved
6. Solution
Reduce buses
entering CBS.
Introduce Circular
Bus Routes
connecting
Localities Directly
Introduce Buses
which would not
enter CBS and
take parallel roads
Design CBS and
Traffic Around CBS to
make more efficient
Improve the way
in which Pass
Through Buses
Enter & Leave CBS
No Buses Should
Roam Around
Palace
7. Designing Traffic Around CBS
Buses to run in Contra Flow Dedicated Lane from Pathashala to CBS
• Buses From Pathashala Circle to CBS to run in extreme Right Lane in a Dedicated Bus Lane
• Buses From CBS to Pathashala Circle to move with Mixed Lane.
• Road From Pathashala to KR Circle to be made 3 lane with dividers with little widening by 10-15 feet if needed.
• Only LMV to enter between Pathashala to KR Circle as usual on the left lane.
Buses to run in Contra Flow Dedicated Lane from CBS to Palace Circle
• Buses North and East Bound to leave CBS in a Dedicated Lane in extreme Right Lane (Hopcoms Lane) from CBS
to Palace Circle
• Buses entering CBS from Palace to continue with Mixed Traffic
• Private vehicles (Only LMV) to use normal left lane as usual from KR Circle to Palace.
• Road to be Widened between KR Circle and Palace Circle if needed and possible probably by using compound of
Town Hall.
8. Designing Traffic Around CBS
Movement within CBS
• CBS space in the current Rural Bus Stand can be utilized for Contra Flow by allocating for Road Widening.
• South and West bound buses which end their journey in CBS can use the current Rural Bus Stand including Rural.
• Buses from South/West bound to North/East to Enter CBS from the current exit gate and leave from Hopcoms
Gate side going in Contra Flow Lane.
• Buses from North/East bound to South/West to utilize the current flow pattern as is as this is not wasting any
time roaming around Palace.
• Buses from North/East ending its journey at CBS to enter from the current Entrance to CBS and leave from CBS
from the current exit gate taking Right Turn instead of left towards KR Circle, wait for the signal and exit towards
Palace.
• Other option is to take a turn within CBS and take a left turn and exit via the Contra Flow lane near Hopcoms.
This would eliminate sharp turn to exit from CBS and elimination to wait the traffic signal at KR Circle.
• Traffic martials or wardens to monitor and manage traffic within CBS and in front of CBS.
