The year lord, month lord and day lord of Savana year (Civil year or Terrestrial year). The method is based on continuous counting of days, called Ahargana from the date of creation, also called the Srsti Ahargana.

4. AHARGAṆA
The first step in finding out the lords of the year, month and day
is to find the Ahargaṇa.
An Ahargaṇa is the continuous count of the Savana days
(Terrestrial days, Civil days) from the beginning of an epoch. The
concept is similar to Julian Date
For our computation, we will take the epoch as the commencement
of Sṛṣṭi, creation. Consecutively, the Ahargaṇa is called the Sṛṣṭi
Ahargaṇa.

5. FROM THE BEGINNING OF KALPA TO SRSTI
Sūrya Siddhānta 1.45-47.
Collect together the years of 6 Manus, with their 6 Sandhis, and the Sandhis that
lies in between a Kalpa, those of 27 Mahāyugas, of present Manu named
Vaivasvata and those of the Kṛta yuga, and subtract from the Sum, the number of
years of the Devatās, reduced to Solar years, required by lord Brahma in the
creation of the Universe, (before the commencement of the planetary motions)
and the remainder 1,953,720,000 is the number of Solar Years before the end of
Kṛta Yuga.

6. TIME ELAPSED FROM BEGINNING OF KALPA TO
END OF KṚTA YUGA
This equals to Kalpa beginning Sandhikāla + 6 Manvantara + 27 Mahāyugas + Kṛta
Yuga + Tretā Yuga + Dvāpara Yuga + Elapsed Kali yuga. Let’s find out the figures in
Daiva Varṣa first.
Here, in terms of Daiva Varṣas, the durations are, Kalpa beginning Sandhikāla =
4800, Manvantara = 856,800; Mahāyuga = 12,000; Kṛta Yuga =4800; Tretā Yuga
= 3600; Dvāpara= 2400, and Kali yuga = 1200.
Thus, the period elapsed excluding the currently running Kali yuga is 4800 + 6 *
856,800 + 27 * 12,000 + 4,800 = 5,474,400 Daiva Varṣas = 1,970,784,000
Saura Varṣas. This is the number of Solar years elapsed from the beginning of the
Kalpa to the end of Kṛta yuga.

7. YEARS TAKEN FOR CREATION
According to Sūrya Siddhānta 1.24, Brahma took 47,400
Daiva Varṣas for creation.
From this point to the end of Kṛta yuga = 5,474,400 -
47,400 = 5,427,000 Daiva Varṣas = 1,953,720,000
Saura Varṣas.
This tells us that, the Ahargaṇa computation should be from
the day of Sṛṣṭi and not from the beginning of the Kalpa.

8. AHARGAṆA FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE
SṚṢṬI
Sūrya Siddhānta 1.48-51.
To 1,953,720,000, the number of elapsed years, add the number of years elapsed from
the end of last Kṛta Yuga to the present year; reduce the sum to months (by multiplying
by 12); to that results add the number of Lunar Months from the beginning of the Bright
Half of Chaitra of the current year to the present Lunar month. Write down the results
separately; multiply it by the number of Adhika Māsa (in a Mahāyuga) and divide the
product by the number of Saura Māsa (in a Mahāyuga); the quotient will be the elapsed
Adhika Māsa. Add the quotient to the said result, reduce the sum to days (by multiplying
it by 30) and increase it by the number of Lunar Days (passed in the current lunar month).
Write down the amount in two places; (in one place,) multiple it by the number of the
Kṣaya Māsa (in a Mahāyuga); divide the product by the number of Tithis (in a
Mahāyuga) and the quotient with the number of elapsed Kṣaya Tithis. Take the number
of these days from the amount (which is written in the other place) and the remainder
will be the number of elapsed terrestrial days (from the time when the planetary motions
commenced) to the present midnight at Lanka.

9. FROM END OF KṚTA TO BEGINNING OF KALI
YUGA
The duration of Tretā yuga is 3600 Daiva Varṣa and Dvāpara is 2400 Daiva Varṣa.
Thus, from the beginning of the Tretā yuga to the end of Dvāpara, the Daiva Varṣas
elapsed as 3600 + 2400 = 6,000 Daiva Varṣas.
From the beginning of Sṛṣṭi to the end of Dvāpara, the period elapsed is 5,427,000
+ 6,000= 5,433,000 Daiva Varṣa. This is equivalent to 5,433,000 * 360 =
1,955,880,000 Saura Varṣas.
Thus, from the Sṛṣṭi to the end of Dvāpara, the Saura Varṣas elapsed are
1,955,880,000.

In a Mahāyuga of 4,320,000 Saura Varsha, there are

We should always keep the figure 714,402,296,627 in our mind
as we are regularly going to use this.

12. SṚṢṬI AHARGAṆA WEEKDAY TEST
The Sṛṣṭi has commenced on a Sunday. Hence, when
the Ahargaṇa is divided by 7 and the remainder
counted from Surya, the result should indicate the
lord of the day.
Lord of the day = Remainder of Sṛṣṭi Ahargaṇa / 7
If the remainder is off by a day or two due to rounding off
errors, adjust the Ahargaṇa accordingly.

13. AHARGAṆA AT ANY TIME
The reference point of Ahargaṇa computation is 06:00 LMT Ujjain (23.1793° N,
75.7849° E). So at every day 06:00 LMT at Ujjain, the Ahargaṇa decimals is Zero.
For any other time, we should apply a time correction factor.
Ahargaṇa = Ahargaṇa at 06:00 + Time in decimals / 24 hours.
For instance, on a given day, the Ahargaṇa at 06:00 LMT Ujjain is 714,404,159,706.
The Ahargaṇa at 19:45 will as follows:
Time in Decimals = (19 + 45/60) – 6.00 = 19.75 – 6.00 = 13.75
Ahargaṇa = Ahargaṇa at 06:00 + 13.75 / 24 = 714,404,159,706 + 0.573 =
714,404,159,706.573
