1. The Great Plains Joint Training Center for the Kansas Army National Guard
(KSARNG) encompasses approximately 3,500 acres of mixed-grass prairie.
The KSARNG Environmental Office has developed a successful breeding bird
program at the training center which includes an annual spring survey. The
Survey covers all birds, but focuses on species in need of conservation such as
the Henslow's Sparrow, Western Meadowlark, and Bobolink. In addition, an
avian habitat management plan was developed. This plan provides ideas for
future habitat improvement projects that will benefit specific species.
