Journey of her life 
• India’s first woman police officer and has a 
larger-than-life image in a country where 
police are mostly perceived as inefficient or 
corrupt or both. 
• She was an Asian and national tennis 
champion before she made it to the Indian 
Police Service in 1972. 
• She has worked in traffic and narcotics 
control, prison management 
• As head of Delhi’s Tihar jail, one of Asia’s 
largest, she introduced yoga, meditation and 
literacy classes for prisoners as part of a 
reform programme that drew global notice.

 Her IPS served in the Indian Police Services for 35 
years and made her name as a courageous and 
fearless Police Officer. 
 In the police service she served in a number of 
different and challenging assignments that range 
from Traffic Commissioner of New Delhi, Deputy 
Inspector General of Police in Mizoram, Advisor to 
the Lieutenant Governor of Chandigarh and Director 
General of Narcotics Control Bureau. She also 
earned name and got into several controversies 
because of her ‘I dare’ attitude.

 Kiran Bedi towed Indira Gandhi's car for parking 
violation. For her the law was same for all, be it the 
Prime Minister of the country or the common man. 
 During her service at Tihar Jail, one of the world’s 
largest prisons, as the Inspector General of Prison she 
was moved at the plight of the prisoners and their 
family.
KIRAN BADI QULITYES 
Self motivation :kiran bedi was motivated by her self and she 
motivated other people 
Empathy : becoming sensitive to other feeling taking other people’s 
personality into account and treating them with respect. 
Leader ship : kiran bedi has a quality like organizing and planning is 
like making a road to a destination 
Intelligence : knowledgeable, smart well informed and wise are the 
leaders who win. 
Social skills :kiran bedi is great leaders are friendly ,civil, hospitable, 
polite and humble.

 Dr. Bedi is an author of several books, anchors radio and 
television shows and is a columnist with leading newspapers and 
magazines. She is a sought after speaker on social, professional 
and leadership issues. 
 She is the founder of two NGOs, Navjyoti and India Vision 
Foundation, which reach out to over 10,000 beneficiaries daily, 
in the areas of drug abuse treatment, schooling for children of 
prisoners, in addition to education, training, counseling, and 
health care to the urban and rural poor.
 A non fiction feature film on Dr Kiran Bedi's 
life entitled Yes, Madam Sir has been produced 
by Australian film maker, Mega Doneman. 
 This film is being screened in film festivals around 
the world. Its commentator is an Academy Award 
winner, Helen Mirren. Dr Kiran Bedi was present 
during its screenings in Toronto, Dubai and 
Adelaide, and to address the Q&A sessions at the 
end of each show.
 Every time it has been screened, it has received a 
standing ovation. 
 The documentary has made a clean sweep of the award 
categories---“Best Documentary” with a cash award of 
$100,000. 
 This is a biggest prize for a documentary for any film 
festival in the US and the Social Justice Award with 
$2500.00 at Santa Barbara International Film Festival. 
‘Yes Madam Sir’ got a unanimous vote from the jury
