2. Vedanta Group had deal with the fourth largest oil gas firm Cairn India for about $9.6 billion. The Environment Ministry is rejecting its proposal to mine Bauxite in the Niyamgiri Hills of Orissa in Kalahandi. The refinery has also illegally diverted 26 hectares of forest land. The violations of various Legislations especially the Forest Conservation & Rights Act 1980, the Environment Protection Act 1986 & the Scheduled Tribes & Traditional Forest Dwellers Act 2006 appear too egregious to be glossed over. 3. The Forest Clearance is being rejected, the Environment Clearance for this mine is inoperable. The refinery has allegedly violated the Environment Protection Act by increasing its capacity to 6 million tonnes per year (mtpa) from 1 mtpa without getting the requisite clearance. The terms & Conditions & the appraisal process for the expansion project has been suspended by the ministry. Hence, Union Environment Ministry rejected plans of India-focussed miner Vedanta Resources Plc to go ahead with Bauxite mining in the state. Continued..

4. GOOGLE entered a new businesses with a service within Gmail to make phone calls over the Web to landlines or cell phones. The service will thrust into direct competition with Skype & with telecommunication providers. After Gmail users install a voice and video chat plug-in to their browsers, they can make a call using their computer’s microphone and speakers or a headset. 5. Tata Steel in Pact to sell UK Plant Tata Steel’s European arm Corus entered into a pact with Thailand-based Sahviriya Steel Industries to sell its Teesside Cast products plant in the UK for about $ 500 million. With this deal, it is expected to create a significant number of new jobs at the plant in addition to TCP’s existing workforce of over 700 and will provide a considerable boost to the local economy. This agreement would also result in Corus & SSI operating Redcar Wharf (TCP’s bulk terminal) as a joint venture, giving Corus the flexibility to use Teesside to serve its other steelmaking operations.

6. Orkut loses top slot to Facebook in India Facebook has beaten competition like Orkut & Yahoo to become the top social networking site in India with 20.9 million visitors in July this year, according to research firm comscore. Compared to this, Google’s social networking platform registered a growth of just 16% with 19.9 million visitors in July. With this, India now ranks as the seventh largest market worldwide for social networking after the US, China, Germany, Russia, Brazil & the UK.

8. The arrangement with Bandhan, which is the largest micro-lender in the east, will help Western Union expand its money transferring business in this region.
