3. What Is Li-Fi Technology
• Li-fi is an abbreviation of Light fidelity.
• It is a technology for wireless communication between
devices using light to transmit data.
• Basically it is a transmission of data through illumination, i.e.
sending data through a LED light bulb that varies in intensity
faster than a human eye can follow.
5. How It Works?
• Operational procedure is very simple.
• If LED is ON , digital data ‘1’ is transmitted and if LED is OFF , digital data ‘0’ is
transmitted.
• LEDs varies in intensity so fast that a human eye cannot detect it.
• A controller connected at the back side of these LEDs is used to code data.
• Also called as 5G optical communication.

7. Li-Fi V/s Wi-Fi
CHARCTERISTIC LI – FI WI – FI
Operations Transmits the data using LED bulbs . Transmits the data through radio waves
through wi-fi routers
DataTransfer Speed Above 1 Gbps Generally above 150 Mbps
Cost Low High
Range Depends on Light range Around 100 meters
Secure Its is more secured than wi-fi It is less secure than li-fi
Power Consumption low high
Interference It is less and can pass through
underwater , airplanes easily
It is more and cannot pass through
underwater , airplanes easily.
10. • Hospital
Many treatments now involve multiple individuals, Li-
Fi system could be a better system to transmit
communication about the information of patients .
Besides providing a higher speed, light waves also
have little effect on medical instruments and human
bodies
• Home and Office automation
It is predicted that future home and building
automation will be highly dependent on the Li-Fi
technology for being secure and fast. As the light
cannot penetrate through walls, the signal cannot be
hacked from a remote location.
12. Future Scopes
• As the amount of available bandwidth is limited, the airwaves are becoming increasingly
clogged, making it more and more difficult to get a reliable, high-speed signal. The LI-FI
technology can solve this crisis.
• Moreover, it will allow inter access in places such as operation theatres and aircrafts where
internet access is usually not allowed.
• If this technology can be used efficiently, we might soon have something of the kind ofWI-FI
hotspots wherever a light bulb is available. It will be a Bright future.
13. Conclusion
• LI-FI is an emerging technology and hence it has vast potential.
• We can higher speed at lower cost .
• It is simpler faster and efficient wireless data communication with some barriers to
overcome.
On 12th July 2011 .He used a table lamp with an LED bulb to transmit a video of blooming flowers that was then projected onto a screen behind him. During the event he periodically blocked the light from lamp to prove that the lamp was indeed the source of incoming data.
