The document proposes a mobile application called JGU Food Saver to reduce food waste at the author's university campus. It would allow students to indicate their interest in upcoming meals, giving the food service an estimate of how much food to prepare. This could help address the 100kg of daily food waste by better aligning supply with demand based on student preferences. The major challenges are making the survey easy for students to use and ensuring sufficient participation despite it requiring selections for 24 meals per week. Risks include low student engagement reducing the effectiveness of the approach.

JGU Food Saver
Itis a mobile application thatallow people to help thefood managementsystem
of JGU’s campus in forming statistics for various causes like how much people
are willing to go for that meal.
What’s the need?
Everyday around 100 kg of food is wasted in the campus mess because food
prepared by the Sodexo is in the same quantity everyday but sometimes menu
is not so good, due to which many people prefer to go to food court.
Some people Say menu is the main problem of food wastage but every day we
can’t have items like Paneer and Dal Makhani, so according to me menu is not
the only problem.
Business Model Idea/ Solution
Weareprovided with themenu listbeforethe week starts, myidea is to develop
a mobile application for the menu in which when the menu is received people
can justtick ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ on every meal. (Which will further indicate the person
is willing to eat that meal or not)
This will not restrict any student who said ‘No’ to the meal, it will just give an
idea/approx. for howmuch people willcome to eat. Thus, according to this food
can be prepared and as a result food wastage will be reduced.
Major challenges
Majorchallenge isto makean easysurveyforthepeople, becausepeopleshould
be able to see the meals while selecting the options in the survey.
This is a big problembecause if filling the survey isn’teasy people would rather
avoid it.

Major risks
There are around 24 meals in a week, so people must tick for 24 questions.
Mostly people don’t show participation or patience for such things. So, this the
main risk because if people didn’t feel easy to fill this survey, this business model
will be a huge failure.
Business Model Canvas
1. KEY PARTNERS
Sodexo:The food makingstaff orthe head of the staffneeds to bedirectly
involved with application’s data/statistics becausehe will be the only one
to decide for the quantity to be prepared.
IT Department:Theyarenecessaryforhandlingor storing of data thatwill
be received from the survey and thus statistics can be easily be
communicated within the University by the same staff and no new staff
will be required to monitor it.
2. KEY ACTIVITIES
Data Creation: Survey filled by students along with the menu will help us
to generate statistics about number of students coming for every meal.
Reduction in Food Wastage: Statistics can be given to Sodexo and thus
food can be prepared accordingly.
Reductionin Expenses: With the data, the quantity of raw material can
be managed and hence extra expenses can be controlled.

Survey handling webservices like: Google forms or survey monkey
4. VALUE PROPOSITION
A lot of food is thrown in dustbin everyday rather giving to anyone, so we
are trying to reduce this wastage.
At present university has no law regarding extra food left out every day
so extra food cannotbe given to anyoneoutsidethe university. So,weare
trying to savefood for other human being, because when we’ll consume
less, less food is purchasedfrommarketand if lessfood is purchasedfrom
the market, prices will not hikeon daily basis and poor people will be able
to afford it soon. This a macro step to empower poor people so they can
also have access to food.
5. CHANNELS
Smartphones/ Laptops
Access to Internet
Access to menu beforehand
6. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Feedback: Every student and every staff related to food processing in this
university can give us feedback on our official website, wewill encourage
students to present a word by themselves.
7. CUSTOMER SEGMENTS
Our main costumers are the Sodexo and university, because due to this
move their cost will be saved.

8. COST STRUCTURE
There’s no cost included in this project, as this data can be simply
collected with the help of survey on any platform such as mobile website.
