16. Solar Street Lights
Solar streetlight is a stand-alone solar system consisting of a pole, battery bank, photovoltaic
module and LED or CFL luminaires. The use of solar power coupled with energy-efficient
luminaires make this doubly environment friendly. The configuration can be customised to
the wattage and brightness required and it can be designed for dusk to dawn operations with
the required number of days of autonomy.

Both Central and State governments have launched various schemes to Solar Power in
India.
Key Factors:
Accelerated depreciation of 80% is available under the Income Tax act for Solar
PV systems, which is helpful for all Industrial, Commercial and Residential.
Government subsidies, lower interest rates and the significant reduction in Solar
Panel prices.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) provides Central financial
assistance through capital and/or interest subsidy.
No permission is required to set up Solar installation <10 KW.
Access to less costly Solar Power compared to conventional electricity tariff
applicable for commercial and high end users.
Renewable Energy generating systems are connected to the power grid and owners
receive a credit for electricity generated in excess of their own needs and contributed
