Scanner is a input device which translates or
converts data on a sheet of a paper into
digital format that can be saved in a floppy
drive. Data can be text are images.

2. There are 2 types of scanners
• 1) flat bet / desktop scanners
• 2) drum scanners
• DRUM SCANNERS
It is used for higher applications like
scanning large images, it uses photo
multiplier tubes and it is very costly.

3. Parts of desktop scanner
• 1) glass cover
• 2) glass plate
• 3) scanner belt
• 4) scanner head( mirrors, lens, filters, ccd ,adc)
• 5) glass lamp
• 6) data cable interface
• CCD-charged coupled device
• ADC-analog to digital converter

4. WORKING OF SCANNER
• 1) We need to install USB and scanner drivers
• 2) face down the image you want to scan on the glass plate
• 3) close the scanner cover
• 4) when you give the command as scan glass lamp is illuminated
and passes through the image
• 5) when the image is passing through lens will capture the data in
the form of light energy or signals
• 6) what ever the changes are made like colour, brightness etc are
applied in the filters
• 7) when the data comes to ccd, it will convert light energy or signals
into electrical or analog signals
• 8) now when the data comes to adc, ADC will convert the anolog
data into digital data
• 9) and this digital data is saved into computer through data cable
interface
