1. What Is CDS ?
CDS stands for Combined Defence Services. Through the examination of CDS a
candidate can get a job in any of wings of the Armed Forces - Army, Air Force and
Navy. The Navy, Air Force and the Army are integral parts of the Indian Defence
Force. You can get the rank of officer in the Indian Army by examining CDS.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC ) conducts the CDS exam twice a
year. In CDS you have to pass the written test first and then after that you have to
appear in the interview.
2. CDS Educational Qualification
Indian Military Academy - For Indian Military Academy, one should have a bachelor's degree from
any recognized university or equivalent.
Indian Naval Academy - A candidate must have passed in Chemistry, Maths and Physics (PCM
stream) along with BSC or Engineering degree should be for this academy.
Air Force Academy - For this academy, a candidate must have passed 10 + 2 with Maths and
Physics subjects with a recognized university degree or a degree in engineering.
Officer's Training Academy (Men) - Bachelor's Degree from a recognised University or equivalent
institute.
Officer's Training Academy (Women) - Bachelor's Degree from a recognised University or
equivalent institute
3. CDS AGE LIMIT
Candidates for the Indian Military Academy must be 19 to 24 years old.
Candidates for the Indian Naval Academy must be 19 to 25 years old.
Candidates for Air Force Academy should be 19 to 24 years old.
Candidates should be 19 to 25 years old for Officer's Training Academy.
4. CDS Selection Process comprises of two stages
i.e. Written test and SSB Interview round.
* In the first stage (written exam), candidates
have to attempt three papers for selection in IMA,
INA, and AFA whereas OTA candidates have to
attempt only 2 papers.
* In the second stage of selection, they have to
appear for an Interview which will test their
intelligence, personality and psychological
aptitude. In order to be eligible for CDS, a
candidate has to qualify both stage 1 and stage 2.
