Social Loafing
Social loafing is working in a group but individual effort cannot be identified. In my
experience, there was once, we were doing the final project. It is a group work with 5
members. So, I and my other friend could only stay from the morning until evening.
Meanwhile the others could stay until late night, some even can stay overnight. In addition,
one of our lecturers would come to check on us but the time she come was midnight as I and
my friend were not there. Hence, on the presentation day, we went to present and the lecturer
who came to check on us said to the other three of them to be hardworking and never talked
about us. And this is a social loafing experience to me as the I and my friend did not get any
good words or not be able to show much of our individual effort in our group presentation.

Self-Concept
From learning self-concept, I get understand myself more. As I worked as an assistant
teacher in a kindergarten, I would always tell about myself to the children like “I am nice”, “I
am playful”, “I am hardworking”, and “I am polite” to do a very simple describing about
myself since the children are still very young to understand difficult words. To shorten the
story, it is just like a question, “Who am I?” in telling what a person I am. Moreover,
sometimes I would ask myself “Am I beautiful?” “Am I smart” or “Am I fat”. By learning
this chapter, I found out that I have a pretty low esteem when I am comparing myself with
others. Therefore, thinking more positively is what I should always do when thinking about
myself and other people to increase my self-esteem.

Counterfactual Thinking
When I was Form 2, on the mid-examination, I did not even do any revision for that exam
and I just went in the class and did the exam. After a few days later, my teacher gave us back
our exam papers and I was nervous about it (“I thought for what I nervous about. I didn’t
even do revision for this exam. For what I am being so nervous about”). And when I got my
exam paper, I told my friends, “I didn’t got a D but at least I got a C” and my friends also
agreed with me as they also did the same thing as I did. So, it is a Downward Counterfactual
as I thought of this story. Actually we should not think this way, as this may become a habit
to us when we continue and may lead us to keep on failing in life.

First Impression
There was one day, I stayed in school until 9pm because of the heavy rain and traffic jam. I
and my friends were talking of our first impressions on each of us. During the conversation,
my friend told me that her first impression on me was “I am very fierce”, and some said “I
was very quiet”. So, I thought to myself that the first impressions my friends had on me was
quite obvious as I do not really smile often and do not talk much when I am with people I do
not really know for the first time. First impressions are impressions that are made during the
first meeting. Therefore, first impressions are very important when you meet people you do
not know for the first time since they may judge you to be the person they really think of.

Observational Learning
Since we were young, we observe what our parents do and we learn their action and
behaviours. One day, I watched my parents sitting on the bed, crossing their legs and watch
television. So, I observed their actions and followed them by sitting beside them, crossing my
legs together and watch television. When my parents saw me copying them they were
shocked and laughed at the same time. Moreover, there were once my parents told me that
my younger siblings watch us, elder sister or brother, and follow our actions and behaviour.
For instance, I and my brother always loaf around the sofa as we were lazy to do our chores
and hence, my sister followed our actions one day when she was asked to do chores. Younger
children carry out the Observational Learning when they are at the growing state.
