PR4 – me and my movies
The three films that I am going to be talking about in this task will be Godzilla (2014) Jurassic
Park (1993) and The Avengers (2012) these films are all action/sci-fi.
Here is a brief synopsis of what the films were about. Godzilla is a monster that has been
unearthed by the human race alongside two other monsters who Godzilla then has to battle
to save San Francisco where the majority of the film is based. Also that the film follows a
group of marines who are working alongside the monsters to try and take all three out.
Later on towards the end of the film they realise what they are doing won’t work and then
have to try and stop it. The Avengers is about a group of people who have been super
enhanced and now have powers, they then get called upon to defend the world from an
alien invasion who’s leader is the brother of one of the Avengers. Before the aliens take
over the Avengers must find out how to put there ability’s together as a team to defeat
them. And finally Jurassic Park is about a man who has the knowledge and the money to
bring back dinosaurs from the dead using there DNA, this man then gets an idea of an
amusement park so that the whole world can see them, but after the first test run of the
park which included his family the dinosaurs get out being able to roam around the whole
park freely. The director of Godzilla is called Gareth Edwards, the director of the Avengers is
called Joss Whedon and then the Director of Jurassic Park is called Steven Spielberg.
The reasons I enjoy watching this type of genre is probably because of the storylines and the
CGI, with action films you get a lot of good storylines, for example Jurassic Park made a
trilogy and are currently working on another film. To cut it down I enjoy the genre so much
because isn’t normally a group of people fighting against one goal and trying to survive. I
also enjoy the monsters, Godzilla is a iconic monster and the new movie shows that it can
still be used with modern day scenarios. I also like following characters in films, if they get re
picked for a sequel I would feel more comfortable watching the second film as I can relate
to the others. This happens in Jurassic Park and The Avengers e.g. Sam Neill, Robert Downey
Jr and Scarlett Johansson.
Intertextuality
I don’t necessarily watch a film just because a actor is in it, the films storyline would have to
jump out at me, but in saying that, if I saw an actor that I liked I would probably be more
inclined in watching the film. There are some actors that are always in the same genre of
film for example Seth Rogan is a well know actor in my eyes and if I was to see him in a film I
would most probably want to see it considering all the films he is in he plays along-side the
same actors and they all make the film great, however this doesn’t mean that I’ve seen all of
his films, some of the storylines or trailers for films that he is in don’t appeal to me because
it isn’t my Genre.

Frameworks and interception
I normally find out about films I want to watch through Social Networking or Web apps, for
example YouTube is a big influence on whether or not I watch a film because you can get all
the trailers up on that sight, movie clips and you can even read comments below the screen
so that you know what other people are thinking will happen in the film so that can get your
mind thinking about it. Another good source of information for films is IMDB (internet
movie data base) on this site you can literally get every bit of information you need about
the film, actors, rating, directors and much more. I used to read about movies in magazines
but as I’ve grown older I’ve started to use the internet a lot more so I lost interest of
magazines.
