Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly is o cially on the preseason watch list of
possible recipients of the upcoming season’s Bobby Dodd Trophy. That Kelly is
now on the list is already a cause for celebration, as it is a testament to the
impact the Fighting Irish coach has had on the players, the university, and the
surrounding community.

The Dodd Trophy watch list for the 2018-19 season includes 20 of the top
college football coaches in the country. It doesn’t just consider wins and losses
and transcends rankings in its meticulous selection process, but leadership,
scholarship, and integrity; many consider it the most-coveted national
coaching award in college football.
Coach Brian Kelly certainly deserves to be given the award, especially following
a solid, 10-win season last year. It makes sense that he didn’t get into the list
last year, following a poor 4-8 record in 2016, but the more recent showing of
Notre Dame just proves great coaching can quickly turn teams around.
Many ranking a cionados have already placed Kelly among the best current
coaches, especially for bringing the team back on track. He already had a 59-
31 record entering the past season. And since he took the helm in December
2009, Kelly has already led the Notre Dame program to last year’s revelation
turn-around, as well as received a slew of honors and awards which includes
the Football Writers Association and the Associated Press College Football
COTY awards in 2012.
