Presentation on doctrine of creation by Todd Linn, PhD; Why I don't believe in evolution; adapted from sermon by Bob Russell, former pastor of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville
2. “Why I Don’t Believe in
Evolution”
Bob Russell
Senior Pastor, Southeast Christian
Church, Louisville, KY
(adapted from sermon preached
April 17-18, 2004)
3. 1) Evolution contradicts the Bible
• We unashamedly have a biblical worldview
• There are three passages in the Bible’s
account of creation that cannot be
harmonized with evolutionary theory . . .
4. 1. The phrase repeated several times in
Genesis 1:25, “according to their kinds.”
2. Genesis 1:26-27, “let us make man in our
own image”
3. Genesis 2:17—God’s warning to Adam
and Eve about the consequences of their
sin.
5. 2) Evolution is rejected by many
reputable scientists
If reputable scientists
don’t agree about
evolution, why should
we be expected to
receive it as utterly
factual?
If you disagree with
evolution, you are not
alone. There is not one
monolithic view of
scientists
6. 3) Scientists admit that evolution lacks
evidence of transitional forms
If evolution were factual, why aren’t there
millions of fossils that bridge the gaps
between species?
Why aren’t there all kinds of living
transitional forms (half-ape/men walking
around)?
Acts 17:26: “And He has made from one
blood every nation of men to dwell on all
the face of the earth . . .”
7. 4) Evolution just does not make good
common sense
Common sense immediately recognizes the
differences between random chance and
designed order.
Common sense looks at design and realizes
there has to be a designer
Romans 1:18-22
8. 5) Evolution violates one of the primary
laws of physics
Evolution says that life
has been moving from
disorder to order
The Second Law of
Thermodynamics says
that everything tends
to move from order to
disorder
9. 6) Evolution doesn’t explain origins nor
eliminates the need for a Creator
Evolution attempts to explain the gap
between life and human life, but there are
two gaps they admit they cannot explain:
1) The gap between nothing and matter
2) The gap between matter and life . . .
10. Those who attempt to explain life
without God go to bizarre lengths to
explain how life came about.
We’re told there is evolution all the way
back. But back to what? It’s easier to
believe this: Genesis 1:1, “In the
beginning God created the heavens
and the earth.”
11. 7) Evolution disregards the spiritual
significance of man
If evolution is true there is little difference
between man and beast.
But the Bible teaches that man is a
uniquely created spiritual being (Genesis
1:26).
12. Conclusion . . .
You’re not here by accident
You’re here by God’s design
God made you for the purpose of having
fellowship with Him, glorifying Him, and living
eternally with Him
Your creator loves you so much He sent His son
to die for your sins
He has the hairs of your head numbered and He
knows the thoughts of your heart
He promises to guide your every step
But you have to make a conscious choice to
believe in Him and put your trust in Him. That
takes faith (Heb. 11:6)
13. How Great Thou Art
O Lord my God!
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds
Thy hands have made,
I see the stars,
I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe
displayed
14. Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God to Thee;
How great Thou art,
How great Thou art!
15. When thro’ the woods
And forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds
Sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down
From lofty mountains grandeur,
And hear the brook
And feel the gentle breeze:
16. Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God to Thee;
How great Thou art,
How great Thou art!
17. And when I think
that God, His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross,
My burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died
To take away my sin.
18. Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God to Thee;
How great Thou art,
How great Thou art!
19. When Christ shall come
With shout of acclamation,
And take me home
What joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow
In humble adoration,
And there proclaim,
My God, how great Thou art!
20. Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God to Thee;
How great Thou art,
How great Thou art!
