Upon accessing the patient, you can begin to form a general impression.
Using the information gathered about the event, you develop a sense of what immediate life threats are possible. Your assessment must be focused on identifying those threats and the appropriate management of those threats.
Once life threats have been identified and managed during the primary assessment, the first decision on whether transport should be immediate or delayed is called for.
If immediate transport is appropriate, the patient must be stabilized manually and then mechanically to prevent further injury.
